My bridal boutique in LA recommended Tailor Maid, so it seemed like it had to be good! TL;DR - Absolutely perfect My experience at Tailor Maid was delightful, to say the least, but truly it was nothing short of perfection on the alterations made to my dress. My ONE comment is that, parking is an absolute nightmare, so unless you're bringing your dress home that day, take public transit or Uber. They have a nice little waiting area so you can just chill while your Uber comes. I worked mostly with Shelley, and I got to meet Marissa, the owner as well. Emily helped me twice, and the seamstress, whose name slips me now, was great as well! Everyone there was extremely professional, patient, and kind. I didn't feel rushed at any of my appointments, and any concerns were quickly addressed. Shelley in particular must be a Virgo because she was on top of it, and wanted me to go home with THE perfect dress. Now, the dress I got was from Lovely Bride, and they recommended I stop here for alterations. I did not look at other alteration shops, though when I first understood the sticker price, it shocked me a lot! I sort of wish I had gotten quotes, but after I went in for my second fitting, I was so glad I chose to go with this premier shop. Marissa and her team know what they're doing. My dress is extremely lazy and intricate; it has particular patterns and it's a mermaid style. This meant I had to get the hem trimmed, the sides at my thigh and waist taken in, and had to add extra boning. If you are like me, who often cuts corners but for some reason your wedding, you're willing to go to the best, you should look no further. Tailor Maid is top notch! I can't say enough amazing things about this place. I bought a pre-loved dress from a consignment store in San Francisco and brought it here. Amazingly they recognized that they had hemmed the dress for the previous owner because they had saved the excess fabric with the dress and recognized their bustle loops! They crafted a beautiful belt from the leftover fabric. I had a minor shoe dilemma since after altering the dress, the hem was too short (this dress was pre-hemmed since it was owned before). They were actually able to stretch out the lace and make it the perfect length. I was shocked. They were nothing but kind, professional, and genuinely excited to be a part of my wedding journey. After trying on over 50 dresses, I made an empowered choice to go with a "semi-custom" dress in order to get what I really wanted: a dress that combined a sweetheart neckline, blush base fabric with white lace, and a "fit and flare" or "soft mermaid" shape. Unfortunately what I got back from the designer was not "fit and flare" and it didn't have a sweetheart neckline. What I got back was an A-line dress that emphasized the widest part of my body and made me look dumpy, not curvy. The straps were in the wrong place. One out of three was not my idea of success. Before going to Tailor Maid, I would stare at my 2nd, 3rd, and 4th choice dress photos with tears in my eyes. If only ... When I looked at the original design photo next to the reality of the dress before Tailor Maid alterations, I felt a mix of sorrow, anger, and regret. Fortunately Marissa at Tailor Maid worked her magic. She rebuilt significant portions of the dress, so that I ended up with a fit and flare dress with a unique blend of a v-neck and sweetheart neckline. AMAZING! Gracious, accommodating, kind, and professional! I had a COVID wedding and we ended up having to cancel the larger festivities for a small outdoor ceremony with 10 family members. Let me preface this by saying, I received no apology for what happened and the business took no accountability for this. I entrusted this business with my wedding dress alterations, and one of the alterations came undone while I was taking formal portraits, before the ceremony or reception even took place. A family friend had to find a needle and thread to try and fix it while I was taking pictures (it was never fixed). I walked down the aisle and spent my entire reception wearing a ruined dress. The cups that were replaced in the top also came undone. I consider the wedding industry, especially wedding dress alterations, to be an area where there is no room for mistakes. This is a wedding dress worth thousands of dollars, that I only get to wear once on the most important day of my life. Now I remember my dress as not being PERFECT, which for the cost of these alterations, is just unacceptable. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My mother paid for the alterations, so after this occurred on my wedding day, she contacted the business asking for compensation. They brushed her off, so I had to get involved and speak my truth.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They listened to me, only because I'm the bride and I could attest to the poor alteration job. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The business expressed no real empathy or concern for how this may have impacted my wedding day.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] All carrie said was "I will venmo you $218" lol and I had to talk her into reimbursing us for $35 of that. All this to say, be VERY careful who you trust to do your alterations. This business was used by a friend of a friend and this still happened to me. I want to mention that this business also upsold us on changes to my dress that were unnecessary. We ordered my dress in a split size (meaning the dress was custom made to all of my measurements) We paid more money for this with the notion that my alterations would be minimal. I also wanted to keep the cost low, since we decided to pay more for my dress to be custom made into a split size. I went into Tailor Made thinking my dress was near perfect, only to come out with a slew of work they recommended be done to my dress. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Very disappointed in this experience![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I traveled a long distance for my fittings and put all my faith in Tailor Made to deliver seamless alterations.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Maybe this can help save a future bride. I made my appointment online a few months ago and finally dropped my dress of this past weekend. The shop is super cute and in a fairly central location in the city. This review is super overdue, but I wanted to share my whole hearted recommendation for Marissa at Tailor Maid. She was recommended to me by Lovely Bride where I purchased my dress. Marissa was very prompt to answer over email, has an adorable studio, and was super efficient and knowledgable in regards to what needed to be altered (she had altered the same dress a few times). I thought her prices were fairly reasonable, as well. My dress was pretty form fitting, and it ended up fitting beautifully. I am giving Marissa five stars because of her awesome customer service. My wedding was scheduled for October, but it ended up having to get postponed the week of due to the fires in Wine Country. I didn't think to try on my dress again until the week before my rescheduled wedding in December. When I did try it on, I realized I had lost some weight and the dress no longer fit. I can't recommend Tailor Maid enough. They are extremely professional and are true experts in what they do. The staff is very friendly and they went above and beyond and offered alteration guidance on my reception outfit. They make you feel comfortable and know just about everything there is to know/prepare for your dress on your wedding day. I came here after reading all of the 5 star reviews! I was left disappointed. My original fitting was fine. I had to literally run through the tenderloin to get there on time because she said she would have to reschedule. (It was earth day or something and Market street was shut down. When I got there red faced and completely of breath she was still with another bride. I waited about 30 minutes even when she said she was about to cancel it. I told her what I wanted and left my dress and felt SO confident it would fit in the bust with the cups she was putting in. When I went for my second fitting she was sick. I could tell she didn't want to deal with me and I felt very uncomfortable and rushed. She hadn't put the cups in yet but said she could go sew them in right then while I wait. Since I felt rushed and unwelcome I excitedly took my dress without trying it back on after she sewed in the cups. Huge mistake, I really do blame myself for that but she should have insisted I try it on again. Instead I felt rushed to get out of there. I've posted pictures that show the bust of the dress. It was a complete mess. It fit worse than before and it has nothing to do with wedding stress weight loss. I've weighed the same since I first went in there. I'm sad that every time I look at my photos now I just see a bust swallowing me. It fit better in the busy before I even took it here. A month later I'm taking one more star off original post.
