Because there were so many people my appointment got started late (which happens and we didnt have plans after) with a stylist who seemed sort of flustered. Sadly, the shop is very run down with faux leather furniture that is cracked and dirty from wear. The pedestal is shaggy with worn carpet and the whole shop had a bit of a stale smell. I wont name my stylist cause I dont want to be unkind but she seemed confused that I had chosen this shop as my first stop. Im not sure if its well understood that you shouldnt come here if you havent tried on any dresses yet but, it did make me feel like she thought it was a waste of time. Additionally, they didnt have very many styles to choose from. There were hundreds of dresses, for sure, but they were all very very similiar and either A- Line princess dresses with huge skirts, V cut necklines or heavily beaded and embroidered. I was really hoping for mini dresses, something with pleats, two pieces, tiered dresses and more color variation like off white, champagne, cream, blush, etc. I suppose I should have read the reviews.

I love their current space on Chapin, it's so bright and cheery with the centrally placed dressing area/mirror. I've just picked up my latest project- converting boot leg jeans to a cropped cigarette leg, and as always, the fit is perfect and the tailoring very well done. I've had too many items altered over the years to list individually, from simple hemming of dresses and pants to more ambitious things like tailoring a shirt to fit from 2 sizes too big (basically remaking the shirt!) I've always been pleased with the work that Tatiana and Dee have done for me, and I think I'm pretty discerning. (I notice evenness and size of stitches/hems, thread type and color matching, how something hangs after it's altered, etc.) I also think their rates are very reasonable, considering the work and time they invest in each project and the fact that they are centrally located in downtown Burlingame. Lastly, both Tatiana and Dee are absolute sweethearts- always welcoming and happy to see me. I highly recommend Joy's European Tailoring!

It took 3 stylists just to hook the dress together before it could be zipped up. I had not gained any weight since ordering, and the dress felt like it had been ordered a size too small. The stylist who was helping me put on the dress kept reassuring me that the gown had a hard corset, and because it was strapless, it was meant to fit that tightly. Well before my actual wedding, I had my courthouse ceremony... I needed a lot of help to get the dress hooked on, and when it came time to drive to the courthouse, I couldn't even sit up. I had to lean the car seat all the way back in order to make it to the courthouse. The entire afternoon I was so uncomfortable that I didn't even want to drink water. After that experience, I brought my dress to Marina at Le Caprice. She took one look at my back and didn't even bother zipping me up. She assured me that my dress was too small, that it was not just in my head, and offered to remove the zipper and replace it with a corset back! I was nervous because I really loved the top part of my dress and how snatched it made my waist look, but when I received my dress it still looked just as perfect! Not only that, but I was completely comfortable in it when I was sitting and eating at my reception (: Marina was able to complete the alterations super fast at a fair price and I think the corset was elegantly executed. I did some research for other dry cleaners that offered cleaning & preservation but Mulberry's just ended up being the best option for me in terms of pricing & location. The drop off process went smoothly and I was told that the dress won't be ready for pick up until May so I kind of just forgot about it. Of course there were still some worries especially since this is such a sentimental piece of garment that I'm having cleaned & preserved. I received a notification this week that my dress was ready for pick up so was pleasantly surprised by how quickly they finished. For a flat rate of $500 for cleaning & preservation, I thought it was a pretty good deal. My dress was beautifully packaged & the garment bag I dropped it off in was also returned back to me. Overall very satisfied with the service I received here & would likely return for other dry cleaning needs.

I had four dresses that needed alterations for several upcoming weddings and initially sent Tina photos of all of them. Rather than accepting every project, she carefully evaluated each dress and agreed to work on only two. She explained that while the other two dresses could technically be altered, the fabric and fit would make it difficult to achieve a result that met her quality standards. I greatly appreciated her honesty and professionalism. Many businesses would have accepted all four dresses, but Tina was focused on delivering work she could confidently stand behind. Her transparency and commitment to quality immediately gave me confidence in her expertise. During my first visit to Tina, I brought both my dresses to try on to assess the alterations that I needed done (mostly hemming). She provided a quote at that time, and stated that payment could be made at pick-up. I found her pricing to be very reasonable given the complexity of the dresses (material and multiple layers). The two dresses she altered turned out beautifully. The craftsmanship was excellent, and the fit was exactly what I wanted. The turnaround time was about two weeks from drop-off to pickup, which I found very reasonable (especially since I had told Tina there was no rush). She clearly takes pride in her work and pays close attention to the details that make a difference. One thing to note is that English is her second language and Mandarin is her first, so there can be a bit of a language barrier. If you speak Mandarin, communication will likely be even smoother. That said, I found Tina to be thoughtful, professional, and genuinely committed to achieving the best possible result for her clients. I would definitely return for future alterations and would highly recommend Tina's Alterations to anyone looking for quality workmanship and honest, trustworthy service.

Mrs. Almasi, the owner of the shop, was very knowledgable of not only how to tailor the suit just right, but she also knew about the latest styles and looks that would bring my suit up-to-date. Once I picked up the suit, I found a garment that was stunningly updated and beautiful. This place is a family business, and it really feels like it. Every time I walk in, Mrs. Almasi knows exactly my measurements, my tastes in style, etc. Plus, you get a lot of great quality work, service and care for the prices you pay here. Oh, and did I mention that the shop practices green cleaning? That definitely makes me feel better each time I bring something in to get washed.

I was told it would cost more for the jeans but that they'd be able to repair them. When I got the jeans back, there was a giant white spot where the tear used to be. It happens to be in the groin area, so they're basically unwearable now. I went back in to see if there was anything they could do to fix them or redo the repair. The woman said there was nothing they could do. I politely asked if I could get a refund for just the jeans, since they're unwearable now. She said she couldn't, because the tear was repaired. If I'd known the repair would leave them unwearable, I never would have paid the extra cost for jeans. Save your money and your clothes and go somewhere else for sewing.

PLEASE PLEASE read all the negative reviews on this site. I'm so good about checking businesses on yelp before I reward them with my business, why oh why did I not listen to my fellow yelpers before coming here? I'll tell you why, the bride like others from yelp, had already chosen this place, picked out the dresses and just told us to go in a get fitted. I should have found another store with the same dresses and ordered from there, but I didn't. Stupid me. Well here comes the fun stuff. I went in 7 months preg, Georgette (the owner) measures me and tells me I'm a sz 16 I (believe) I know bridal sizes are bigger than normal, but my normal sz 8 is doubled? I ask her if she is sure, and she says, "yes of course, I'm a professional" I reluctantly nod, and decide in not eating again bc I'm now ginormous.(jk, I'm fully aware that I'm preg, and by the time of the wedding I won't be preg any longer seeing as I gave birth in May and the wedding is in October-a good solid 5 months). Georgette then rings up the dress and tells me the price, to which I respond, why is there an extra charge of nearly 60.00? She says, "you are plus sized" they need extra fabric for you. Plus, don't worry, all alterations will just be 45.00. WOW pregnant and hormonal, fighting tears, I hand over my credit card and leave. Vowing to never think about this again, I go back in to pick up my dress, and like others, the dress easily could fit me, and my 4 month old baby in it. It needs nearly 6 inches taken off of it.. Whatever, I bite my tongue, now pissed that I have spent an extra 60.00 on fabric that is being thrown away, and money that is now in Georgette's pocket for alterations on top of the extra $$ made on my dress. It gets worse.. Georgette is gone when I go in for my fitting, where her helper asks if I'd like the dress taken up a bit too, it's about 1/2" too long. I figure, why not, all the alterations are 45.00, let's make it perfect. She sends the seamstress down who then cuts the dress right then and there. Well I was WRONG. She rings me up and says it will be over 100.00. "100?" I ask, "what for? Georgette said 45.00 for everything" I tell her I'll wait to speak with georgette, bc there must be some mistake. 2 weeks later, Georgette calls... I'll spare you all the details of this phone call, but I was told that I was wrong, that she never would have told me that, that I must not have understood her, and that she won't make any exceptions for me nor anyone else. These are the prices, she's sticking to them, and what would I like to do. Well, what I would like to do, I won't say on yelp. What I do, is go pick up my dress, take my dress elsewhere for alterations, I won't let her make another penny on me. She makes commission on all the alterations she sends upstairs. How is she still in business? Why do people not read these reviews? I have since called 3 other bridal stores to find out about all Georgettes fees. NONE of them charge these fees, and one told me I could have bought the exact dress for 100 less then I paid. One of them told me they have heard horrible things about paper and petals and one said she is not a recommended bridal store. read more

My entire experience was awful! If you are a maggie bride like me, you might think it can't be that bad and its the only place nearby. Think again. It is worth the extra 1 hr drive to go somewhere else. 1. She tried to advantage of me from day one. She is extremely manipulative and a CON ARTIST. 2. She charges THREE TIMES as much as other places. 3. She insulted me multiple times at my visit. 4. She tied my dress so tight during one of the fittings that I starting to see stars and faint. She ignored my complaints and refused to loosen the corset. 5. It took her 8 MONTHS to finish my alterations. Seriously?! Eventually, I told her I moved my wedding date up. She finished every within day of my "new wedding date". 6. She procrastinates and blames it on you. 7. My finished dress is too short and I can no longer wear heels. The other alterations are sub par at best. Because she charged so much, I can not afford to get another dress. I can't resell my original dress because she ruined it. AND now I have to wear this hideous dress on my wedding day :'( 8. see no 7. I think that should be counted twice. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE A PLAGUE. If you are still not convinced, check the Better Buisness Bureau report. She has an F which is the absolute worst rating a company can get. BEWARE!!!! DO NOT SHOP AT THIS STORE unless you want to deal with dishonest, disreputable merchants. I ordered a BRIDESMAID dress as my wedding dress, had paid it off and then was told by Georgette that I owed more money because it was a BRIDAL dress (I ordered it in white). She held me hostage and would not order the dress unless I paid her additional funds, that was last year. I originally ordered my dress spring of 2010 and it wasn't ordered until Jan. 2011. Georgette does not return messages, she has told me twice that my dress was coming in and it didn't arrive until 2 months later. I ordered other merchandise from her that has still not arrived and my wedding is a month away, talk about stressing out. Luckily, I ordered the bridal party's attire from a reputable dress/tux shop. These items from the other bridal store arrived in 2 weeks! Georgette will tell you any story to appease you (that is if you can get a hold of her ) as she is either unavailable or helping another customer and she does not return phone calls. I have personally told 3 friends who have large weddings coming up not to shop there and will make it my mission to tell as many potential customers as I can not to shop there for their own benefit. If I could rate this store as a negative 10 experience I would. The type of service you get depends on the amount of money you spend! GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING. Bridezillas? I have nothing but amazing praises for the ladies at Papers and Petals! I worked in the bridal industry for two years, and even though I know the stores in San Jose like the back of my hand, the service provided by Georgette and Joanne was worth every minute of the trips to Burlingame. What a refreshing change from the pressuring atmosphere of other stores! Every step of the process from picking my dress to final alterations was such a positive experience. Each employee remembered my name and made me feel valued as their customer every time I came in. They are extremely knowledgeable and attentive. My wedding is next week and not only did everything go smoothly beyond my expectations, I am actually going to miss the sweet women who work there and made my experience so wonderful. I found the dress of my dreams and stayed within my budget and never received anything but the best customer service from every employee. (Even when I needed last minute alterations and made appointments on short notice.) I plan on bringing all of my friend back when it is their turns! Make an appointment, you won't regret it! I didn't realize this place was by appointment only until I got there. Either way, even if I couldn't get in, I wouldn't have wanted to go anywhere else. It was like walking into a little slice of heaven. Luckily, they had an opening at that time and were able to see me right away. The ladies who work this shop are kind, attentive, and so very helpful. They made me feel like a princess! They were able to read me like a book and the first dress they pulled for me was "the one." I don't know how they managed to do it, but they did! I never thought shopping for a wedding dress would be stress-free, but with Papers and Petals it was. I like the fact that it's by appointment only. Shopping for your wedding dress isn't like shopping for a pair of shoes. These ladies know this, and their attention towards me made me feel appreciated, cared for, and taken care of. I honestly cannot thank Georgette enough for being an absolute life-saver and ensuring that my wedding dress, my bridesmaids' dresses, and my mom's dress were absolutely perfect!!! I had the MOST awful experience with an online bridal vendor, and I came into Georgette's shop in tears fearing that nothing could be done to fix my situation. Georgette and her staff helped to put me at ease, and fixed the entire situation for me immediately. The prices were reasonable, and most importantly, they treated me with the sort of consideration, compassion, respect, and professionalism that a customer deserves. As far as I'm concerned, Georgette is an absolute expert at what she does and has a way of making everyone (including my mom!) feel at ease regardless of body type or budget. I have nothing but the best things to say about Papers and Petals. I am a bride living in Maui, and when my internet bridal store dropped the ball less than 2 months before my wedding, Georgette saved the day. Most shops would not even return my call, and all the others said it was impossible to get a dress in a such short time, but Papers and Petals bent over backwards to make sure my dress would come in time. Not only were they able to find, order and RUSH my dress Georgette put me completely at ease in the process (although I'm sure it took quite a lot of work on her part). While a dress may seem like a silly detail in the long run, Georgette completely understood the value and sentimentality of the occasion. Update from Previous Review below: Also wanted to add that the bride I accompanied for her appointment did not end up doing business there. Seriously, there are plenty of other stores that are better. Why waste your time here? "I'm a bridesmaid who went with the bride to papers and petals for her appointment. My first shock was overhearing the owner yelling at a vendor over the phone (within earshot of us) about a delivery. She's not much more polite to her customers. I found her very dismissive and rude. I also saw a seamstress beginning the alterations process for someone's dress by just cutting the hem (not pinning it beforehand). Seemed super weird to me, and the woman wearing it had a look on her face that signaled it was weird to her, too. After going to several different places to look at bridal gowns, I selected my dress at Papers & Petals Bridal. Jasmin is quite possibly the most pleasant person to help with such a special purchase! She was so warm and welcoming. She made me feel extremely comfortable discussing the minor details that I liked/disliked about certain dresses, and was unbelievably helpful when I asked for advice and possible options for some of the dresses. She had thoughtful answers to all of our questions and was not at all pushy. She was also extremely accommodating to my schedule (I live out of state) and made the whole process a breeze! I cannot say enough wonderful things about this bridal boutique! From the moment we walked in, the staff made my daughter's dress-shopping experience absolutely fabulous. When you are a bride-to-be planning your wedding, you need to be praised, you need to feel like the Center of the Universe (well, at least I do). But when I came to Papers & Petals in Burlingame I felt like I (or my opinions) weren't important at all. The women tried to talk me into things that I didn't really want or like. They acted like they knew what I needed way better than I did and tried to convince me in that. I found papers and petals on one of the designer's web site, walked in with out an appointment the first time & the store was super busy, I got acknowledged right away, they didn't have any availability for that day, so I looked around I liked what I saw and made an appointment for the following day, went in with my Mom & two of my bridesmaids, Joanne helped me that day she was patient & knowledgeable .I end it up buying a dress that I loved. My fiancée and I were getting married. She was really nervous about the whole thing, especially about getting the PERFECT dress. In a situation like this people want to deal with professionals... to siggest, advice, etc. Instead, Papers & Petals in Burlingame made my girl miserable and frustrated about ever even walking through the door to that store: they were rude, insensitive, inconsiderate, there was a problem with the dress size, which they actually tried to blame on my fiancée. DO NOT SHOP HERE! Keep track of everything, get receipts for every transaction! Order earlier, it will be wrong. Very bad attitudes and delivery dates. Their mistakes do not warrant refunds. Have been dishonest on many occasions. Extremely hard to get a hold of Georgette, hides. We feel we have been held hostage here, and still battling. A wedding is a very special and expensive day, this is a perfect example of why people worry! When I initially talked to a sales person there, I even think she was the owner of the store too, she originally told me one price, which I liked and gave her my business. When I came back to pick up my dresses, I was told absolutely different price, and wouldn't you know it 4 times more than the original price. I said wait just a minute, before you told me different price, but she was like "I couldn't have said that" Well, I am definitely not coming back there again! They came recommended by my tailor. I brought the dress that needed to be taken in and the straps shortened. The price quote was much higher than I had expected but I thought that since they were experts I might as well get the dress fixed the right way. I got the dress back and it was very disappointing. The dress looked like it was tempered with since the beads and sequins did not match at all. Once I tried it on I also noticed that one strap was shorter than the other making the dress crooked. Basically I paid more than $100 for something that any other tailor could have done. Experts my a**! read more

Had a wonderful experience this evening watching my daughter try dresses on. We drove from Walnut Ceek. The owner was fantastic and has true talent! So many to choose from, my daughter narrowed it down to one and wants to try it on one more time before buying. We have already gone to many other bridal stores and she said that no matter what this is the store she wants to buy from! I can't even begin to tell you how horrible this place is. RUN, don't walk away from here as fast as you possibly can. Between the rude employees, the flat out refusal to keep me posted and them ordering the size dress I specifically asked them NOT to order and then a** raping me on alterations, I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. If this place gets ONE good review its not worth it. Its a disaster. Don't let the prices fool you- its much easier to just pay a little more and not get treated like shit repeatedly. read more

Papers & Petals was THE worst customer experience I've ever had in my life! Rude, incompetent, staff - especially the owner... Georgette(?) - seemed annoyed by my every word. Finally, after a few minutes she seemed to have lost any interest in me as a customer and started to simply ignore me all together to the point where my fiancee asked me if I wanted him to kick her ass all over the place for being so disrespectful to me. Ladies, do yourself a favor and don't let those people ruin your mood! Stay away from that store!!! read more

It kept my mom entertained while i was getting in and out of dresses...The most important I was comfortable with georgette she made me at ease. Fairly straightforward, but I did indeed feel slightly uneasy with the communication at first since I'm not used to non-face to face communication for decision making. 1) make appointment to try on dress, 2) send a msg to owner letting them know the dress you want and the date, 3) sign contract - let them know if you need additional alteration and make appointment for the alteration try on, 4) choose/finalize veil, 5) finalize pickup date after alteration try on, 6) final try on and choose jewelry/hair piece if you haven't already on the same day you pick up the dress. I don't have WeChat, so my mom had to help coordinate for a while, but the owner is very responsive through email so I ended up just continuing the communication via email. I love that the veil, jewelry, and hair piece rentals are also included in the price. I wanted to wear all of them, but it was too hectic on actual wedding day so I just let others decide which one I should wear on day of.

I was able to pick up the jacket a few days later and it fit like a glove. Later I tried my luck with the repair of a damaged dress for a friend. Once again, Fanny was very professional and told me exactly what I could expect. When I returned a few days later, the dress looked as good as new. You couldn't tell it had ever been ripped! I was certain my third request to Fanny would be too much. My friend had wanted several alterations done to her mother's wedding dress. I recommended we go to Fanny to talk it through before her big day. Not only did Fanny give her some great feedback, but the end result was better than my friend or I could have ever imagined. Fanny saw me 6 or 7 times during a 3-month course before my wedding because my weight fluctuated a lot. My dress is very simple, so a little change in my body shape will show. I lost quite some weight 2 months before the wedding, gained it back, and lost it again. My dress was finalized 6 days before my wedding day and it turned out gorgeously. During this time, Fanny also did my measurements for my custom made Qipao, and gave recommendations for my then fiancé's shirt and suit choices, for free. Wedding dress alteration is not cheap but it also has close to zero tolerance for mistakes. Fanny is super professional, friendly and gives great suggestions. My Mom and best friend cried. You have to trust in the process because very likely the dresses will not be the right size to put on. The measurements are so precise and the dress fit perfectly. My experience was especially memorable because of Covid. The manufacturing process in Italy shut down right after the material was cut for my dress. I had several months of not knowing what would happen. Joan was in communication with me every step of the way and also assisted with slight alterations. Linda is a true artist. She is a sculptor whose medium is fabric…read more I worked with Linda for custom bridal alterations. She did custom alterations and created a bustle for my store-bought wedding dress, a multi-layered, silk chiffon sheath with a sweetheart top and straps. Linda also remade a 1970s vintage bridal headpiece and veil that had been my mother's. I found Linda through the San Francisco dance community (more below). I emailed her a photo of my dress and we discussed the scope of the project and her hourly rate & pricing before I made an appointment for a fitting. Dress alterations: My dress had been a store sample, purchased at a wedding dress sample sale in NYC. I initially came to Linda to have the dress hemmed to my height and bustled. The dress was shopworn and the bodice fit a little oddly, things I was going to overlook. Linda picked up on these details right away and fixed all of them: loose threads, loose beads, the odd corset boning and discolored straps (she handwashed the straps). She also sewed in a bra. No detail was too small to ensure that the dress fit well and looked great. The veil was formerly a very large piece that I didn't feel comfortable wearing. Linda trimmed down the size, replaced the discolored tulle, replaced yellowed beading, added sequins, reinforced the underside with tulle and redid the comb. She also added loops to aid my hair stylist in attaching it with bobby pins. Linda preserved the feel of the headpiece while updating it to suit my style - a perfect balance. See photos for a close-up of her fine-detailed work. As a fashion designer, Linda made overall styling suggestions for shoes, jewelry, undergarments and hair, being mindful of how items would appear in wedding day photos. As an expert seamstress, she advised on how to manage the dress day of: preventing wrinkles, spot cleaning should something spill that day, how to walk in it. It should be noted that I specifically sought out Linda because of her expertise in custom dance wear. My now-husband and I wanted to dance Argentine tango for our first dance and I knew Linda's knowledge of dance and dancewear (she dances herself) would be an invaluable asset. She ensured that I had a beautiful, strong bustle that was short enough for tango (mid-calf). Everything about the experience was custom and I never felt rushed. Linda went above and beyond to ensure that I looked smashing during all parts of my wedding.

Last year, this little piggy tumbled head over…read moreheels in love with THE little black dress. roberto cavalli stretch silk, sleeveless with the 2 most exquisite lace trim embellishments beginning at the hem in front, running up the front of the dress, over the shoulder and continuously down the back to the hem again. Devastatingly, the dress (the smallest size made) was just clearly too large all around. As in, needs to be taken in not just at the hem, but also the sides (too loose) and the straps (if piggy's life had been a movie, trying it on would have been an R-rated moment!). When I took it to my regular tailor, he actually refused to do it. he said because there was not natural seam on the tank straps, and because the width was not uniform in the front and the back, it would require basically remaking the dress, and he didn't want the responsibility on his hands for a designer piece. Never was there a piggy so morose as this little piggy was at that moment . . . that is, until i found Linda online and drove myself over to her studio ASAP! I'm posting a couple of photos of the finished product. Linda was fabulous; she did multiple fittings to make sure everything was just right, include a fitting after she had pinned and basted the dress, but before she went in and actually cut any fabric. I could really tell the difference between Linda's services and my regular tailors; she had lots of clever suggestions about different options for approaching each aspect of the alterations, explaining what the finished look would be for each option as well as whether some were more labor-intensive than others (she does her alteration work on an hourly basis). I still visit my regular tailor in the city for normal things like hemming a skirt for work or taking in department store dresses, but for custom or complex work, Linda's the first person I would call, no question about it! piggy stamp of approval granted!
