The other day nephew went in for a root canal (yikes) he was really nervous due the a bad experience he had at another dentist. First let me start off the staff gives very good customer service they are respectful and helpful. I love them, now let get to the dentist Dr. Medhi is truly amazing every step of the was he explained to my nephew what he was doing to ease him. I love that. Dr. Medhi is caring, respectful you had a calm about him that made the procedure easy. After we left my nephew said that he liked the dentist and it barely hurt(Yassss!!!l). Dr Bernstein is a godsend. I had a TERRIBLE experience in LA with placement of two veneers. It resulted in gum disease, discomfort, and poor aesthetics. It all came to a head when I was 8 months pregnant and one of them chipped. This time around I did my research and went with the best of the best for cosmetics. From the first time I met with Dr. Bernstein, I knew I was in the right place. There was no stress or anxiety -- I knew what was happening every step of the way. He immediately identified the error that resulted in the gum disease and referred me out for gum surgery before veneer replacement. Everything went great, I often get compliments on my teeth, and people are shocked when I tell them they are veneers because they look so natural. This was over 10 years ago. On Monday of this week, I suddenly had a small tooth chip from behind one of my veneers when I was eating. I was terrified that I was going to have to replace them and it unearthed the anxiety from the first time in LA. But no need to fear, Dr. Bernstein got me in straightaway to take a look. I assumed he would do an assessment and have me come back to get it fixed. Not so. He told me it would just take a little bonding, and proceeded to do it right then and there, free of charge. We had a great chat and caught up, then I was on my way. Again, the original placement was over 10 years ago and yet saw me no issue and with my charge! The office staff is all incredible, the space is gorgeous, the skill is expert, and the customer service is phenomenal. Dr. Bernstein gave me a consultation for crowns, and Dr. Tran gave me a teeth cleaning. The level of care and concern, along with time that Dr. Bernstein devoted to discussing the options for crowns was the best that medicine has to offer. I say that as a physician who feels that they can judge well those people who are expert in thier field. Dr. Bernstein certainly is. Dr. Tran is no less proficient and expert. Dr Bernstein is the best dentist I have ever found! I went to see Dr Bernstein because I wanted to make some cosmetic changes to my front 4 teeth. I'm not a great candidate for Invisalign, as I have periodontal disease, and that's already a lot of maintenance-- getting Invisalign would require even more. So I choose Dr Bernstein because he was so highly rated as a cosmetic dentist. But little did I know Dr B also is a specialist in sedation dentistry. Meaning, if you are a scaredy-cat like me of needles, THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO! I'm ok with cleanings and so on, but any time I have to have a needle, I revert to an 8 year old kid. Well, Dr Bernstein is the warmest, most patient and skilled dentist in this department you will ever meet. He uses something called "The Wand" to give injections. I was hopeful but skeptical, as I had to experience it to believe it. What he promised me was true-- you actually don't feel it! This is also because he takes his time to numb you beforehand. Including dimming the lights and letting you rest with a blanket on you while the topical anesthetic does its work. :-) A++ for this dentist, I will go to him from here on out for any of my dentistry needs. I received an improper quote of $4,00.00 for dentures. I went to a consultation to see what needed to be done. I was sent to an oral surgeon for an $8,000.00 procedure. I then called Dr. Bernstein to find out what the next step was. I was then sent a review of what needed to be done at the cost of $9,600.00. I was then dismissed as a patient because I was upset about the misinformation I was given originally No understanding of my being upset and not being able to afford that cost. As we all know visiting your Dentist can be very uncomfortable and expensive. This being said, picking the right Dentist is a very important decision. Selecting Dr. Bernstein is the right choice, I know because I have made the wrong choice in regards to dental care. I had seen Dr. Bernstein many years ago, my teeth are very sensitive. At the time I did not know Dr. Bernstein would be able to treat me regularly, I assumed he just treated patients who were like myself for special dental care. I started to see another dentist and over just a few months I paid a substantial sum of money for my dental care. I was being double billed for work that was already completed. The work performed was substandard and overtime this dentist had no concern surrounding my comfort. I had a root canal on a front tooth, needed an implant. This dentist never discussed an option of letting me have a temporary tooth while he worked on my implant. I had such a good experience with Dr. Bernstein I did more research and discovered he performs routine dental procedures. I made an appointment and I am now back on track with my dental needs. I am still in need of a front tooth implant, Dr. Bernstein made me a temporary replacement without my even asking, he also stated to me " Don't worry Robert, we will get your smile back real soon" ., Those words meant a lot to me and further cemented in my mind that this is a dentist who really cares. I went to Dr. Bernstein in December 2020 for porcelain veneers. At first impression, both he and Alison make you feel at ease; their warm demeanor and personal, but professional guidance immediately convey the sense that you are in very capable hands. When I was looking for a cosmetic dentist to correct my peg laterals and crooked teeth, I talked to several different practices and got several different quotes. The one I got from this office was on the higher side, but I decided to go with them because they really seemed to know what they were doing, had a plan, and they made me feel like I was taken care of. What a great decision. This type of thing is really not something that you want to choose by the lowest price. I know for sure I would not have gotten the same results with such a smooth experience at another practice. It was worth every penny. Dr Bernstein is the very best cosmetic dentist you'll find, and he is now my general dentist as well. I already had veneers on my teeth when I interviewed him, I wanted him to redo them. This would be my third set! (My first was at 16yrs old, second was at 33 yrs old, and now my final final set at 48yes old.) I'm very meticulous and cautious, so I spent a lot of time with him before agreeing to go forward. Unlike some other patients who simply let the dr do what they think best, I was not an easy patient as I ask so many questions and was very particular how I wanted them to look. After all, this was a redo job from another dentist who did a terrible job. Veneers are expensive, and it's additional trauma to your teeth, especially if you're having them redone. I went to Dr Bernstein's office at least five times, maybe more, before deciding on a game plan for what shape, size and shade of white I wanted. Dr Bernstein was extremely patient and polite. He never made me feel like my concerns were not important. I wanted my new veneers to be a a lot shorter than what he was replacing and what was the norm, and explained why. He in turn gave me all the background info on why a certain length is desired. But he absolutely let me choose, and I am extremely happy with the outcome. He did exactly what I wanted. I also wanted them to tilt in a little, like my natural teeth did. I LOVE my smile now. My teeth look beautiful and I actually smile sooooo much more now. They look so natural that I often can't tell which one is the veneer and which isn't when they're right next to each other. Instead, I literally have to count the veneers to know which are veneers and which aren't! My 8 upper veneers were replaced by Dr Bernstein. Dr Bernstein works with one of the best labs who make the veneers, and he has a special technique so they are a lot less likely to possibly dislodge. (That happened to me 3 times on my second set!!!!) He told me this should be my last set ever, and I believe him. In addition to his expertise, he is just the greatest person to work with. I've never felt so at ease with a dr than I have with him. His wife, Allison, who works in the office with him, is absolutely lovely with a great sense of humor. We laughed to tears many times. Best dental practice ever. Don't go to anyone else. He is the very best. I did a lot of research! A few other things to note -- Dr Bernstein is certified to use anesthesia during the procedure if you want that. That's what I did, and highly recommend it. It is more money, but procedures will go quicker and smoother, and you'll be completely relaxed. One last thing. I submitted my receipts for the veneers to my insurance and got close to $3000 back. read more

I don't know if I can even imagine a better dentist. Dr. Bernstein was recommended to us by a friend (another dentist... always a good sign) to find a solution to help correct my 13 year old son's peg laterals. Due to his age, the ordinary, more permanent solutions were not advised, so Dr. Bernstein thought outside the box to come up with something that worked for my son and we couldn't be more thrilled with the result. Before Dr. Bernstein, my son didn't often smile as he was self conscious (and, well... also a teenager), but now he clearly feels so much better about his smile. Because it was sort of a new and temporary solution, it hasn't been without hiccups and he's had to see him a couple more times, which his super responsive and professional staff have always facilitated quickly and easily. Dr. Bernstein is an excellent dentist, pleasant to visit even when dealing with a difficult dental problem, as I was this time. He and his staff are all delightful, professional, and do excellent work. Today, I thought I was going to come close but Dr. Bernstein insured me he would do everything he could to keep that from happening He is also working with me on dental regimate, that will be easy for me financially as I am on a fixed income. I was referred here by a friend and was hoping to consult for invisalign. The day before the appointment, the assistant called me to tell that the appointment is a day before what I thought. I talked to her for 15 mins and cancelled my meeting at work to make it to my appointment. When I reach there 18 mins late and ring the bell, no one opens the door and I then received a message saying that the doctor left at 5 mins ago. They didn't even call before leaving, neither took my call when I was calling to tell I am running late or how to get in because I entered the wrong building (it was a big hospital). I can't imagine myself dealing with such inconsiderate doctor for regular appointment. I would understand it was a shorter appointment or there was a patient right after. It was a flexible 60-90 min appointment in which I was 18 mins late and the assistant knew it was unexpected appointment for me, and 40mins commute from where I was when we talked less than an hour ago, given all these they never bothered to call/check with me before leaving the office. I would never go there again and wouldn't recommend anyone else too. read more

Theresa B could not possibly be farther off and I am genuinely SHOCKED by her response. Then again, maybe it's not so shocking, since she's never given anything more than one star...just take the negativity into account people. Josh Bernstein has been my dentist for roughly fourteen years now, and I have referred countless friends and family to him over the years. He is beyond exceptional in his craft, and he is a caring, sensitive and philanthropic man to boot. He is endlessly conscious and cautious with pain management (you can even opt for sedation if you have dentist-related anxiety like my little sister), so I have never once had a moment of discomfort in his care, he has always been sensitive to my budget and he calls me to follow up after every appointment to make sure I'm doing okay. His (not inconsiderable) work on my family, friends and me has been beautiful, quality work that we've never, ever had any complaint with. When I was living in Santa Cruz for four years, I would even drive two hours to see him- I will never go to another dentist! The office is beautiful (doesn't feel clinical or cold at all!), with a wonderful, sensitive staff and a comfortable, luxurious vibe. They make sure you are always comfortable with blankets or a drink, and you can even watch DVDs while he works on you! If that doesn't convince you, you should know that I entrusted Josh with my boyfriend's life, when an abscessed wisdom tooth became infected and the infection spread to his entire body and became dangerous. The office reminded me that this was the kind of thing people could die from, and that we should get it taken care of right away. My fella had no insurance and next to no money, but Josh took unbelievable and immediate care of him anyway. EDIT: Josh recently took out two of my wisdom teeth and it was a great experience! If you have any anxiety whatsoever, this doc will take GREAT care of you. I didn't feel a second of pain, I was able to hang out in the office and sleep off a bit of the anesthesia, and best of all- I don't remember a thing! Woo! You are the BEST, Josh! Josh is conscientious, thorough, extremely qualified and very, very kind. He, his staff and his family are dear, sweet, valued friends and I trust him innately. Honestly I do not find the negative review credible. Due to a childhood filled with dental incompetence, as an adult I avoided dentists until it became too painful to chew. Josh Bernstein not only brought my molars back into perfect shape, he also erased my dentist phobia in the process. I was surprised that my neglected old leaky fillings left anything to repair, and I expected a series of extractions. Instead I now have eight perfect porcelain crowns that function and look like new. One molar was so weak that it broke in the process, and by the time I left the appointment Dr. Bernstein's staff had already made the necessary appointments with the endodontist and periodontist, and he saved my tooth. I had not one single issue with the treatment, nor any failures in the three years since. I want to emphasize that this was a major endeavor and not once did I experience pain, discomfort or admonition. And the result is perfection. Josh Bernstein is at the leading edge of his profession, a perfectionist performing his work, and the finest human being anyone could meet. I went to Dr. Bernstein for my invisalign. I immediately felt comfortable, and knew I would get the invisalign here. There was so pressure, or haste. When I got the trays, he helped me put them on and assured me I wasn't going to break my teeth my popping them on/off. They take a while to get used to. I saw results within 2 month. In the beginning the change is much more noticeable. Within 4 months my teeth were relatively straight. During this time, I had other work done. I made Dr. Bernstein's office my primary dentist. The work I got done here was pretty expensive. None of it was billed to my insurance, and I ended up paying about 300/cavity out of pocket, and 900 to fill a chip. I was told they would bill the insurance, but it never happened. (This is the -1 star) However, Dr. Bernstein is very patient with the invisalign results. All the work that goes into getting your teeth straight is included in the initial payment. (Getting remolded or x-rays) He will make sure you are happy with your results. His office is bright and clean; it has a very zen-like vibe. It is also a smaller office so you feel very personally taken care of. Other offices feel very business like and busy, or totally run down; this is neither of those. Staff: Brittany is really cute and professional. Allison is also very sweet and easy to talk to. Everyone who works here is social and easy to get along with. The office is easy to reach and someone is always there to pick up the phone or help you out. There is parking on the street, which is a major plus. Overall, the most important factor, the quality of work, is excellent here. Even though It's not cheap, you will get what you pay for. You know your work will be top of the line. I highly recommend this office. For someone who is very self conscious about their mouth, and nervous about seeing dentists, I can attest to the quality of work you will receive here. Tip: I recommend Dr. Bernstein more for cosmetic dentistry over a regular dentist just because of price/ insurance. If you can afford to make him both, do it! read more

I know most people don't think of going to the dentist as a positive experience. Given all the periodontal work I've had and money spent, I can't say I always do. However. There are some amazing positive experiences to be had. My first (Cecile Sebastian) in Hawai`i opened up my eyes to what a dentist should be. And after having had that, everything else is... well, dull. So per her recommendation, I saw Dr. Bernstein. I was a bit put off because they don't accept insurance (that said, they do the paperwork for you so that you can get reimbursed), but after a not-so-great experience elsewhere, I figured it would be worth it. And it was. This is a guy who cares. Who asks questions about YOU. Who wants to keep you healthy. Who wants you to be happy. And more over, isn't concerned about making money on your teeth - he endeavors to treat problems, not just give you a band-aid (figurative of course, band-aids aren't teeth-friendly as of yet). It is damaging, however, when someone abuses this arena to air a personal vendetta. Such is the case here with Theresa B's posting. Compassion, skill, flexibility and patience are the tenets of Dr. Bernstein's practice. I had been a "once-every-five-years" or "I'll go when it hurts" kind of dental patient. Fortunately, I have strong dental genes. With Dr. Bernstein, my visits are regular...here's why: All of my experiences at Dr. Bernstein's office have been absolutely PAINLESS!!!!!!! I have never felt even the slightest prick of the needle because he has completely numbed the injection site with topical anesthesia and PATIENTLY WAITS FOR IT TO TAKE EFFECT!!!!! The patient's comfort is paramount and Dr. Bernstein's "library" of distracting media is extensive, whether music or DVD. After every appointment, every member of my family gets a phone call later that evening from Dr. Bernstein asking if we are OK, in any discomfort or needing anything further in that moment. Dr. Bernstein sets the bar very high and runs his practice the way I run my business; caring for the consumer first. From his waiting area to the treatment room to even the bathroom, he provides a calm and stylish environment, respectful of his patients' comfort. He IS as good as it gets. Since I have heard so many good things about Dr. Bernstein, I made my appointment with him. In all honesty, I have never had such a wonderful experience in my entire life. Dr. Bernstein is the most attentive, caring, courteous, informative, not to mention nothing short of BRILLIANT dentist I have ever met! He always took his time with me. In fact, he blocked out a whole afternoon for my consultation and blocked out an entire morning for my surgery! Speaking of my surgery, it was such a comfortable, relaxed, and pain-free experience. Dr. Bernstein's office is a peaceful, serene environment where you feel the warmth as soon as you walk through the door. His assistant, Brittany, is as friendly and knowledgeable as they come, making the experience even more enjoyable. Their office has what's called a "comfort menu" catered to provide all patients with a pleasant dental experience. To top it all off, my teeth now look amazing and my painful tooth is now pain-free:) With that said, I highly recommend Dr. Bernstein to everyone. I have a complicated case and Dr. Bernstein was recommended by one of the top Neuromuscular dentists in the US because they went to the same premier school, LVI, and have great respect for one another. So I took Dr. Erfani's advice and my consultation was amazing because Dr. Bernstein has gone through a similar dental TMJ situation himself! It was an ordeal of major proportions to go through having a full mouth restoration but it was truly the only way to correct deteriorating TM joints. I am mentioning this because several reviews have mentioned they can't afford to go that route. Yes it does cost the equivalent of a luxury car but for me it was that or never being able to chew food again living on a liquid diet! So it depends on your needs and don't ever let the cost stop you, there is always a way to get there. I came fully restored to Dr. Bernstein but with muscular and bite complaints because after all that work things were still not right in my TMJ and chewing bite. (I so wish I would have had him do the full restoration, but did not know about him years ago.) He gave me three options and we went with Invisaline to expand my upper and lower bite to provide more room for my lower jaw to move forward, which was blocked and much needed. This took about 9 months but was so worth it. I was very doubtful about this working durning the treatment but he was so sweet and reassuring that I trusted him and kept going. I finally turned the corner and could see his great advise finally accomplishing the goal! I asked for a K-7 series neuromuscular test and it showed us that we had made great progress and were almost finished! I continued for another 6 weeks and then we went through painless bite adjustments and I have a tolerable chewing bite now and comfort that is allowing the rest of my body to start recompensing properly to re-alighn my muscular/skeletal bodily structure. This will take time - experience has proven that. I am working with a Neural Kinetic Technique (NKT) Practitioner in Oakland who is accelerating this the restructuring process. I can't thank Dr. Bernstein enough for sticking with me and recommending the best solution to allow me to live my life pain free and neuro-muscularly balanced! I write this crying. I have had 7years of pain from a terrible job of ruining my bite and destroying my beautiful teeth. 20min ago while gently flossing an upper tooth on the left it just completely broke off down to the gum line. I was convinced by Dr Bernstein who is very pleasant and assuring to talk to, 7 years ago, to have my whole mouth replaced by him even though my teeth were healthy, strait and attractive and I had little money. He said he could "correct" my bite with some special muscle relaxing equipment and computer program (I told him I had sleep apnea) but to correct it he needed to "do" all my teeth. He is convincing and I took a loan promoted by his office for $45,000 to pay him, up front. He overtly lied about how much of my natural teeth he would grind down (tiny black spikes is what he did to all my real beautiful teeth now gone forever). He covered them with attractive fake teeth that have shattered and chipped and ached unbearably for seven years. I have had to have 4 root canals, which the Dr who did the root canals said, was because the artificial bad bite caused my teeth to clash and injure and kill the root. Every dentist I have seen is appalled at what was done to my teeth. Dr Bernstein has an expensive fancy office and equipment and talks a good line but he is incompetent to put in a full mouth or create a healthy bite. For years I have had hundreds of nights and days of such terrible pain it has ruined my life, and he has ground my teeth into a lopsided miss matched mess. I am a Lecturer and my speech is damaged too. Shamed by the outrage of my dentist he agreed to replace my bottom teeth to correct the 1/4 inch misalignment. Since I had no money to have another dentist do what, all agreed was necessary, redo my whole mouth, I agreed. But after months of adjusting on an orthotic which kept falling off but did improve it somewhat, he decided to replace some of my bottom teeth. But a few months ago on the day of my appointment, I had a panic attack of fear about his incompetence and how many more teeth will I lose and pain. And I cancelled the appt. He and his wife Allison were very angry. And he sent me a letter saying he was no longer my Dentist. He destroyed my mouth and threw me away. read more

This review is posted by a "dental chicken." I have a phobia of dentists that harkens back 30-plus years. I get ill from the odor, I gag from x-rays, and I tense up so bad I need nitrous just do have someone poke around. Oh, did I mention I often vomit from nerves? Yeah, it's bad. Having chipped a tooth one evening I had no choice but to ask around for a dentist. My colleague told me about "sleep denistry" (also known as sedation dentistry), where work is performed on your when you are only partially awake. If anything could work, it was this. Now, all I had to do was get to the door. Those of us in the service industry could all learn a lot about customer service from Dr. Bernstein and his staff. WOW. First of all, I got a text and an email from him reminding me of my appointment (very tech-cool). And the text had a phone number attached to it that I could call to cancel. I walked in the door (free parking BTW) and first-off, there was no smell. None. Zip. And a nice jazz CD was playing (Jobim-esque), so the place was really mellow, but not new-agey. Just nice. The bathroom was killer, and the lavender soap was so un-dentisty. I loved it. His assistant, Dina, offered me Pellegrino and asked how she come make me more comfortable. She was so cheerful I almost decked her (it was the morning and I hadn't had coffee), but somehow I don't think that would have damped her mood. I waited about 3 minutes before Dr. Bernstein came in to talk. We talked for 45 minutes about my dental experiences, my health, and my fears. Then, we went for the exam. Still no smell. Very high-tech. Big 30-inch screens to look at things (like your teeth). You can even watch a movie while he does the exam. I was still a little freaked, but each minute that went by, I thought, "I can actually do this!" He found the chipped tooth and a bit of gum disease (no wonder, I hadn't been to the dentist in 7 years), but told me it was all going to be fine. He tooth some xrays, but they didn't hurt like those old vinyl things. And they developed in seconds. He told me when I came back, I could have traditional novocaine, nitrous oxide, or a sleep pill. I opted for the latter. Painless visit. Dr. Bernstein apparently does a good deal of cosmetic dentistry too. I wasn't there for cosmetics, but the pictures he had and letters from patients about the work he did gave me confidence that he really cares about his profession and his craft. I checked around for the cost of the visits and treatments, to see if he was more expensive than the rest. My random searching suggests he's just about the same as other highly rated dentists and perhaps 10% more than average rated dentists. He doesn't take insurance, but his staff files your insurance paperwork for you, so it's completely hassle free in that regard. I go for the next visit in a week and I can honestly say I'm not afraid or fearing pain. If all dentist were like him, I think we'd all have healthier mouths. read more

I was referred to Dr. Bernstein by my father in law. My father in law highly recommended Dr. Bernstein for his excellent work-- Ultimately, he exceeded any expectation I had and then some. I grew up with yellow calcium deposits on my upper front teeth and I was always so embarrassed by them and I hated smiling. I made a consultation appointment with Dr. Bernstein and he explained a few different treatment plans and let me decide what would work best within my budget. He never tried to sway my decision or tell me what would be a better option. Dr. Bernstein did an amazing job describing the different procedures and I felt so comfortable with my final decision. I chose the bonding procedure and I could not be any happier with my decision. Immediately after Dr. Bernstein handed me a mirror to take a look at my teeth, I started crying. My smile was so beautiful and white! Everything was perfect and painless! The before and after pictures are still so unreal to me. Allison and Dr. Bernstein were wonderful throughout the entire procedure and I felt incredibly safe and comfortable. Allison is so genuine, sweet and helpful and Dr. Bernstein is undeniably an incredible cosmetic dentist. His work is amazing and the overall care for his patients is unmatched.
