Just average food but the location is great in downtown Utica. The GOOD: The town has really been made up so cute and they have the Main Street blocked off, with outdoor seating and free live entertainment. I will give it that, we were able to score a huge table for our large party. The waitress came out right away which was a good sign at first. Some of our party ordered food right away. My cousins and I went to a local shop for about 40 min then we came back and ordered food from Joy and Ed's. Again the waitress seemed attentive at this point. She started dropping off everyone else's food and I ordered some appetizers as my meal. THE NOT SO GOOD: Seemed to take a very long time for fried mozzarella, nachos and a bowl of chili. When we finally got our food the nacho sauce was already getting cold. The cheese sticks were very good but she forgot to bring ranch sauce. No problem as someone at our table gave me theirs. The nachos were beyond disappointing. I would say a step below stadium nachos. The yellow cheese sauce that comes out of a can. Big slices of jalapeño peppers on top. Chopped white onions sprinkled on top. That's it? I do love nacho sauce but there was something lacking. It could have maybe used a side of salsa or sour cream. Or maybe some black olives. It was just meh. I was so hungry that I ate 75% of it. Just not that great. The real problem is once I got the food the waitress disappeared. No one got any water refills. It was still light outside and yes on a Saturday night it was busy. But I had to go inside to get another drink after sitting there for 45 minutes. Not sure what happened to the waitress. The food plates and baskets sat there for at least an hour without anyone clearing our table. Meh. The JUST OK: The bathroom was clean. the odd thing was there were two men's restrooms and only one women's restroom. Single toilet in each one. I might have missed it if there was another women's restroom but I didn't see one. Service is more attentive when you go up to the bar. Very nice serving of wine, and they do have two kinds of wine from the August Hill winery. But it was awesome to see the live band. They were very good. read more

Decent service, filthy men's room, awful food. Had chopped sirloin steak and baked potato. The meat smelled borderline spoiled. One other person in our party had the same thing, and he didn't even eat it. When it was owned by Joy and Ed prior to 1980 or so it was a good place to eat. It's had a dozen owners in the last twenty years and it shows. Just bad. read more

Went to the Starved Rock Street Car Cruise Night and stopped at Joy & Ed's for some food. Our waitress was amazing and gave us a heads up that there would be a long wait for the kitchen. Even though they were very busy, all of the girls working were very friendly and attentive to our needs. I would definitely dine here again. read more

When I write this review it is about the LACK of customer service me and my spouse received at a recent visit at Joy & Ed's. We went in and sat down. The waitresses were busy and I thought to myself ok one will eventually wait on us. That did not happen. We waited at our table for 12 minutes without any acknowledgment from any wait staff. No offer of a menu or drinks. But the funny thing is that the one waitress had the time to stand and talk to a male customer at the table next to us for a couple of minutes but didn't have the time to wait on us. My business will be taken elsewhere. read more

Poor service. Very subpar food, received an omelet with raw and cold veggies inside. Our waitress never came to see how everything was, and we had to ask another server for silverware I also had to walk inside to ask for the check 15 minutes after we were done eating. Still was never asked how our food was and when I told the waitress about the raw vegetables, the she grimaced and asked if we wanted her to take it off the bill. Nice gesture, but way to make customers feel awkward- we said no, It would have been nice if she just took it off the bill. Sad that we will not return as we are local. read more

Nice place for lunch. The restaurant side has about 12 tables and the bar side has a long bar with slot machines. Ordered a cheeseburger ( fries are extra) and a kids grill cheese sandwich. It has a nice menu selection and everything tasted good. It was clean, service was very friendly and prices were very affordable. read more

Supper club it's not. Breakfast, lunch and bar it is! No frills, hometown, what you see is what you get kind of place. Dining and bar are separate so kid friendly. A good alternative to dining at the Starved Rock lodge dining room. We ordered the omelette with Monterey Jack and ham, a side of hash browns, our other order was French toast with a side of 2 over easy eggs. We were not disappointed in any of our meal and did ask about their cheese source as it had a great pepper bite! Service was good, appeared to be a local crowd, some townspeople, maybe some family. As we were finishing breakfast the lunch specials were just being put up-looked like a small selection but still a variety of choices including cream of potato soup. Was in town for a hiking trip and wanted a classic mom and pop dinner for my birthday. My husband and I got the prime rib and it was awesome. The salad bar was cool and had lots of classic Midwest picnic staples. There was a large basic bar and you can get any drink you like. We ate in the bar and watched American idol and it was fun. Stopped here for breakfast awhile back, there were limited options in the area and it was open. It was early, so it was quiet inside, with a couple other occupied tables. A gentleman we had seen at Duffy's the night before (a dead ringer for Sam Elliott) looked over at us and exclaimed "city slickers!" to which we laughed and said good morning. A waitress came over with waters and menus. We ordered pancakes and corned beef hash, which were both great. The bill was very affordable, and the service was fine. They better change the name of the place, as there was no Joy having breakfast there! I thought it would be a nice stop, but the wait syaff will ruin the place if they dont stop yelling their business across the room. Only eat there if youre looking for real cheap. But you get what you pay for, service is slow, very loud talking staff who are oblivious to customers comfort and dining. Anyone can shout across the room, which is like an echo chamber, so dont go there if you want to have a quiet morning. Food tasted mediocre as we left such an annoying place and ate the food elsewhere. We couldn't believe how backwards the chubby lady was shouting back and forth to the waitress that she really needed the money so she would work the weekend shift for her. read more

We generally go camping out in Utica at least once a year. The best breakfast place hands down is Joy and Eds. The biscuits and gravy are the best we've ever had anywhere. Every time we go in there the staff remembers us from the prior year. You won't find better prices anywhere.
