As the first customer I got to pick my seat. Strip mall vibes. Some Asian music. Not a very personable experience, somewhat abrupt and less welcoming than I was expecting. Let's see how the food is. Maybe I came in at the wrong time? I'm pretty sure my presence is not wanted. Not the best feel when you're trying to have lunch. Every item was dropped on the table with a clash of glass from the table top, and plates/bowls. Then slid over to me. If the food was 10 then maybe it wouldn't have bothered me. But the food was basic. The spring rolls and hot and sour soup were the highlights. The crispy wrapper, tasty fillings, with their sauce was good. The hot and sour soup pushed me into some childhood nostalgia, and points are won there. The general tso chicken was odd. The breading in the chicken was on some pieces and not others. There's a bath of sauce on the plate, and any crispness of breading was gone. The taste was okay. But with a lack of spiciness, and no peppers to be seen in the sauce, it was mostly just really sweet. The pork fried rice had a few small piece of pork and no veggies like a normal pork fried rice (peas and carrots??)... overall it was bland. It also didn't blend as a great soaker for the generals sauce. Overall the main plate also looked a bit monotone in color. The flavors weren't horrible. It was overall average, with an ok experience. Had sweet and sour chicken lunch special. Started with the egg drop soup. WOW was one of the best I've ever had. Thick with mushrooms and other vegetables. Really enjoyed it! And I should have stopped there and left. Now the quantity of the food was generous, especially the chicken lumps, I will give them that. The chicken came as 3/4 inch diameter breaded lumps and had been deep fried. Then the red sweet sauce coated most of the lumps. As for flavor, about all I could taste was the sweet sauce. Seemed I was eating red candy. I eventually used my generous napkin to wipe off as much of the sauce as I could. Note I've said nothing about sour here. Just red sauce - no onions, no peppers, no other vegetables in the sweet red sauce. The fried, about a cup's worth, rice had rare tiny pork(?) pieces and no recognizable vegetables. Flavor was ok although tasted like something was a bit (old?). The spring roll was deep fried and didn't have much flavor. I dipped in the sweet sauce. Which was better than the little dish of? Maybe it was the sweet and sour sauce? So the good news here was the deep fryer oil wasn't too old. I did not try the Chinese hot mustard. read more

Just went back today and the food and service was the worst I have had, everything was brown. No fresh at all. The waitress is so rude. When I let her know that things seemed to have changed she said not my cook and that he is bad. It's very sad when the waitress says the same thing! read more

This place had four stars and it looked halfway decent, but this was some of the grossest food I've ever had and I will never go back not to mention. There is hardly any meat to the dishes at all and the wonton noodles the crunchy ones they see in the picture were so old tasted like stale old grease that have been in the cupboard for over 10 years. You know that stuff in the cupboard that you never thrown out and then when you try to use it, you're like oh my God I can't use that that's so gross. We had our Christmas Eve Dinner early this year and chose Joy's Kitchen. It was a take out order. The pricing was comparable to what most local restaurants were asking. I believe our bill was between $75.00 and $80.00 for the items we wanted. I believe we picked up the order around 5:15 pm. We had ordered: Spring rolls (not bad) Low Mein Noodles ( the dish looked nice but tasted overly cooked). Walnut Shrimp ( Nice looking dish. Just didn't taste that great. I had had never had the dish before so maybe that's just how it taste. Happy Family dish. It was not very good at all. Way over cooked. Broccoli and Beef I personally did not taste it. Our adult son said no taste. Again appeared to be over cooked. Pork Egg Foo Young. It was just not good. The texture was almost like hard and ingredients not mixed well enough. The gravy was bland tasting. My point we live in Aurora about 15 minutes from the restaurant. This was our first time here. We were hoping to experience good foo Young. Recently moved to Canby and needed some good Chinese food. There are a few places to choose from but based on reviews we chose joys. Glad we did! We ordered two number fours for dinner. It had pork fried rice , fried shrimp, bbq pork , and general chicken. It was delicious! Would give five stars but the rice was just a tad hard. It fed myself, my eight hour old, my boyfriend and there was a little left over still! Was very reasonably priced and they were also super nice. Asked us about our day when we arrived to pick it up. So my girl and I figured we'd try something new and local to the area last night. We were going through the options and landed on Joy Kitchen, but now I wish we had just gone somewhere else. I got a dinner combo #3 which had the beef broccoli, fried shrimp, pork fried rice, and bbq pork. The rice was ridiculously dry and flavorless. It LOOKED decent but was extremely underwhelming. The bbq pork honestly tasted like the just served me honey ham and glazed it with their sauce. The broccoli was crisp but the beef tasted like it was literally just fat chunks with sauce on it. The shrimp was subpar at best. The lady at the counter was very confrontational when I placed my order, but then super nice when I picked it up. So it was very confusing to tell if she was just rude or having a lot going on at the time. The atmosphere was cute though. I'm sure if I had sat down to eat it would've been a quaint little environment. My girl got sweet and sour chicken with a side of vegetable chow mein as well. The chicken breading was crunchy but very dry. She compared it to sitting under a heating lamp for hours. And the sauce for the chicken itself just tasted like sugar, not a hint of sour in the sweet and sour. The chow mein turned out but this mush of vegetables and noodles. I was very confused considering when I placed my order I asked for crunchy chow mein so I have no idea why it was runny and slop essentially. This is one of our families favorites for Canby Chinese food. The combo meals offer quite a variety at a good price. The portions are large and we are always taking food home with us which makes the value even greater. The service is very friendly, the setting is clean, open, bright and comfortable. My wife likes the green bean beef and the veggies are very fresh and crisp. I like the spicier options - kung po chicken being my favorite. I find the heat level good and usually ask for a little hotter than what they would serve by default. We have probably eaten there more than 15 times since they opened, I don't know how you can make a more positive review than that. read more

First time trying "Joy kitchen". Was not impressed or happy. The portions and price were fine but, there was absolutely No flavor!. I ordered the Kung Pao chicken because it's spicy, and menu says that too, however it had Zero heat so I was unhappy with that. If I didn't want spicy, I would have ordered something that wasn't. My Bf had the Sun Gum and it was flavorless as well and in fact seemed to have almost same flavor as my chicken! It seemed more of an "American" dish without any Asian flavor. The fried rice that came with our combo meal was terrible, dried out, maybe it was leftover from morning..?. Did not eat it . Only thing in the rice was bacon. I've never had fried rice this way without veggies. We were hoping this place would be our "go to" but, we will keep looking. Okay, this is not your destination if you demand Chinese haute cuisine. This is Canby, after all. But if you appreciate fresh dishes executed to perfection accompanied by superb service in an unpretentious environment then Joy Kitchen may make you happy. A group of four of us had lunch there Saturday and speaking for the General Tso's Chicken? Phenomenal. Have I had better? Most assuredly but Peking Station's gone, home to what many of us felt was the perfect rendering. Theirs was half broccoli florets, though, and Joy delivers the chicken sans accompaniment, dressed in a perfectly flavored and balanced sauce. One can request it spicier if the need is felt. I ordered their Vegetable Deluxe (Buddhist Vegetables elsewhere) and House Special Fried Rice to go and it was as if the little white "Kari Out" cartons had a bit of twinkle dust sprinkled on them. I also took the balance of my General Tso's and a couple of cartons of white rice they threw in. That evening I plated dinner for a couple of relatives who found the vegetables, which I added a goodly amount of seasoned shrimp to, and rice delicious. They left with leftovers, too. Then my wife and I had dinner though we included some of the General Tso's. Loved it. The next night we lazily revisited the leftovers and made another outstanding meal and had a quarter carton of the Fried Rice left. No end to the takeout as they packed the boxes, literally. Just simply dependable, warmly served and faithful renderings of old favorites. And the postage stamp dining room has a certain charm that complements the very attentive table service. Nice to find a Chinese restaurant in new town that I came to visit that has outstanding Chinese food. Ordered the house special, with shrimp, scallop's, and beef with a delicate sauce. Great mixture of vegetables. Also had Szechuan beef that I requested to be spicy. It was wonderful. Same goes for the pork fried rice, pot stickers and spring rolls. This restaurant is true Chinese food. The ambience of this restaurant is very plain and simple but who cares when the food is great. If you're in the area you must try this place out. This is a great little local business.....the food gets 3.5 stars, very tasty but nothing outstanding. The cheap prices and generous portions get another half star and the friendly folks get it the final star. Frankly there is no "great" food in Canby, but this is a good solid option if you're in the area. I went out to lunch with my Mom on Valentine's Day here. (It's like the 100th time I've gone); but have never wrote a review before. I got to say. This time was as good as the other times. The owners and staff are amazing; and if you go a lot they'll recognize you and start to joke around. The food was amazing (again) and their egg-flour soup is the best I have ever had. Food is delicious and you can't beat the speediness and portion size. They're very friendly and are happy to make accommodations for my kids. I love getting food to go from here as well. Nicely packaged and almost more of a portion than when you dine in. Prices are reasonable as well. I always get the beef and broccoli combo and it's so delicious!
