Cashew Chicken lunch & egg drop soup

I found my new go to Chinese restaurant in Wilsonville. This was amazing and the price wasn't inflated like other places I have ordered from. I just wish there was an option for fried rice in the uber eats app. The food was still very good!

We live in Vancouver, and we were in the mood for Chinese food and miniature golf. Hard combo to get in one place, so to the handy-dandy Yelp app I went to find Chinese food near Bullwinkle's in Wilsonville. And once again the Yelp app delivers big!! It directed me to New Hunan Kitchen. The menu looked good, the reviews were above average for a Chinese place, so we hopped in the Yelpmobile and headed south. It was easy to find, right off the last Wilsonville exit, in a mini-mall. We walked in and it looked like your pretty typical Chinese place, on the upside it was clean. We got menus and water glasses and it became apparent that to feed two adults and a teenage boy we needed to do the family dinner for three. We ordered happy family, General Tsao's and Szechuan Beef, but it also came with sweet and sour chicken and a boat load of appetizers and soup. The soup came first, I got the hot & sour, the Wife and the Tax Deduction got the Egg Flower. Both were excellent, the hot & sour was nice because it was not overloaded with pepper like so many places do. Our appetizers we next, a mounded plate filled with barbecue pork, fried shrimp, and crab wontons. All three were excellent. Before long the entrees started coming out. Sweet and Sour Chicken was first. Yes, I know, it's the throw away dish usually, but here at New Hunan the breading was so light and not greasy, it caught us off guard. As we enjoyed that the Szechuan Beef came out follow by General Tsao and finally the Happy Family. We, as a family, consider ourselves quite the experts on General Tsao's Chicken, we've had the best Portland and Vancouver have to offer. It did not look the same as some places, but the taste was amazing and we made short work of that platter. Service was excellent, everything was clean, there was some TVs with sports on in various corners of the dining area. We wobbled out of there filled to the brim with good food and went to walk it off with 18 holes of miniature golf. I kicked both their butts too, but then again it was my birthday and I think they let me win.

Absolute gem hidden away in a rundown strip mall. Food was great, not too sauced, and the fried food we ordered was perfectly crispy. Will definitely make this my go to spot. At first it seems super empty, but after people watching, enough people trickled in and there was a revolving door of to go orders. Service was prompt and polite. Support local!

    Hot and Sour Soup

Tasty food for hungry people, in a small strip mall space. I had the hot and sour soup, and the Kung Pao Tofu (mild) lunch. My dining partner had the egg drop soup and Kung Pao shrimp (regular) lunch. "Mild" might be "medium" elsewhere; it was perfect for me. The portions were generous, and the service was quick and friendly. The decor is a mix of red paper lanterns, Christmas, St. Patrick's Day, and random. The formica tables and booths were clean. We'll be back.

A lot of food for price, this is the kind of place we used to when I was growing up. Good comfort food and very reasonable price.

The restaurant hasn't been renovated in a very long time, but it has a loyal customer base. While we were there, we saw several regulars who proudly support the restaurant because it has become a tradition for them over the years. We tried the chicken garlic wings, honey walnut prawns, and pork fried rice, along with the complimentary tea. The food was tasty, the portions were satisfying, and the service was friendly and attentive. If you're looking for ambience, this may not be the place. But if you appreciate long-standing family-run restaurants with good food, it's definitely worth a visit. Do support places like this--they're part of the community and deserve to stay around.

I had been going to Lee's for many many years and was a little saddened by some of the changes that the new owners decided to make. I'm very happy that they brought back some of the old schools menu items. Especially sesame, chicken and sweet-and-sour spareribs. The prices are higher, but not unreasonable in fact, a bargain compared to a lot of restaurants and you get more food and it's good . If you gave up on them, with the changes that came with new ownership, consider giving them another try I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. The service was friendly. It was fast. The servings were big and the food was delicious.

Let's see how the food is. Maybe I came in at the wrong time? I'm pretty sure my presence is not wanted. Not the best feel when you're trying to have lunch. Every item was dropped on the table with a clash of glass from the table top, and plates/bowls. Then slid over to me. If the food was 10 then maybe it wouldn't have bothered me. But the food was basic. The spring rolls and hot and sour soup were the highlights. The crispy wrapper, tasty fillings, with their sauce was good. The hot and sour soup pushed me into some childhood nostalgia, and points are won there. The general tso chicken was odd. The breading in the chicken was on some pieces and not others. There's a bath of sauce on the plate, and any crispness of breading was gone. The taste was okay. But with a lack of spiciness, and no peppers to be seen in the sauce, it was mostly just really sweet. The pork fried rice had a few small piece of pork and no veggies like a normal pork fried rice (peas and carrots??)... overall it was bland. It also didn't blend as a great soaker for the generals sauce. Overall the main plate also looked a bit monotone in color. The flavors weren't horrible. It was overall average, with an ok experience. I may come back and try again. Maybe it's just an off day.

And I should have stopped there and left. Now the quantity of the food was generous, especially the chicken lumps, I will give them that. The chicken came as 3/4 inch diameter breaded lumps and had been deep fried. Then the red sweet sauce coated most of the lumps. As for flavor, about all I could taste was the sweet sauce. Seemed I was eating red candy. I eventually used my generous napkin to wipe off as much of the sauce as I could. Note I've said nothing about sour here. Just red sauce - no onions, no peppers, no other vegetables in the sweet red sauce. The fried, about a cup's worth, rice had rare tiny pork(?) pieces and no recognizable vegetables. Flavor was ok although tasted like something was a bit (old?). The spring roll was deep fried and didn't have much flavor. I dipped in the sweet sauce. Which was better than the little dish of? Maybe it was the sweet and sour sauce? So the good news here was the deep fryer oil wasn't too old. I did not try the Chinese hot mustard.

It took about 10 minutes after we were done with our meal for the waitress to come out of the back to check on us and bring the check. The small soup was pretty big and probably enough for about 3 people. The spring rolls were decent and had a nice crunch to them. The chicken with vegetables in brown sauce had zero flavor, like none. Adding soy sauce didn't help. The portion was very big and easily could have fed 2 people but they were skimpy with the rice. Now the bad part. This was a work lunch so I wasn't able to get a picture but I saw a small bug scurry across the wall of my booth and hide behind a picture. I didnt finish eating after that.

The staff were all very friendly and greeted us warmly as soon as we entered the establishment. It was very quiet inside and there were only a few other patrons present while we were eating which also aided in the great service that we received. The food itself was good, the chicken was juicy and well marinated and the wontons were filled with a generous amount of cream cheese.
