Hands down best Chinese in the area. Reminds me of a Chinese restaurant in the 90's - lazy Susan tables, fish tank at the entrance, warm and welcoming service. Delightful. Tonight's dinner was intended to be enough for leftovers and that's what we got! Mi shu chicken, spicy tomato beef chow mein (sub Singapore noodles for lo mein), chicken with fresh veggies and crab Rangoon. All delicious!! Will make an amazing second weeknight dinner for us, and maybe some lunches too!! My favorite? Surprisingly the chicken and fresh veggies was so delicious, fresh, perfectly seasoned and though mild it had just delicious clean flavor. Service kind and wonderful! Owners came and talked to us and everyone wished us a great week to come. How nice is that?!! read more

The ambiance at Hunan Pearl is attractive. However, after reading complimentary revues, our meals were disappointing. The spring rolls were quite greasy. We ordered the green bean combo meal with garlic sauce. The sauce drenched the green beans, shrimp, chicken and beef without a base of noodles or rice to absorb some of the smothering sauce. We could barely taste the individual flavors through the thick gravy. The Moo Shoo was good enough but with too little pork. The service was okay. One entree came out well before the second. We'll give Hunan Pearl another try hoping that other dishes will aim for more delicacy and less sauce. read more

Great prices, we came for dinner too and the prices were great. Hunan Pearl is either a hit or a miss with some people. My personal experience has always been positive. Yes, I've had delivery orders missing some items. I understand when they get busy, and they don't cross check orders. Which is disappointing. When you call and bring it up to their attention, they try to find a reasonable solution for the customer. The restaurant is clean, and their employees are pleasant. They have quite a bit of a selection on the menu. You'll just have to pick what you like. If you're ever in Lake Oswego and are craving Chinese food, give them a try. Just make sure to check their hours prior to heading there. read more

Made a special trip to eat at Hunan Pearl and arrived before lunch closing hours but kitchen closed early and flippantly turned away this potential customer as though it was my fault for not arriving 30 minutes before closing. Don't go to this restaurant if there is less than 30 minutes before closing. It makes we wonder about the food given so little concern is given to turning customers away. read more

I was so excited to try their food so decided to go by and order take- out on the spur of the moment.....oh my....so disappointing! The combination fried rice was virtually flavorless, with 2 tiny shrimp in the whole dish and was soggy not fried. My husband wanted ribs, which were VERY expensive and not very good. Was it an off day? Who knows..but for 3 dishes for approx $60....we won't try a second time. read more

This is my local go-to for Chinese food. I have never been disappointed by anything from their extensive menu. The General Tso chicken and fried rice are definitely worth mentioning, as are the vegetable dishes, which are well seasoned and consistently provide the right crunch. The service is attentive and friendly. The dining room is open and bright, and the decor is not over-done; I get a kick out of the paper dragon hanging from the ceiling. One (sort of) down side is the parking. There are plenty of spaces available but the restaurant is very close to the parking lot entrance. Rather than deal with traffic coming in and out of the lot, I try to park a bit further into the lot and walk a few more steps. No biggie. I definitely recommend. read more

This was a food delivery order for our office. As such we could not review the ambience or service--although they left out a lot of stuff from our order. When I think of Hunan cuisine I think of strong flavors. If I order kung pao with three stars hot, I don't expect blandsville. That's what we got, both of us who ordered that. No one complained too loudly, but I'm pretty sure no one liked what they ordered based on how many people didn't take theirs home. It was not awful. It was mediocre. While a lot of Portland-area non-Korean food is surprisingly uninspiring, I was a little surprised at this one. In any case, no chance we'll order there again. read more

I still love this place! So we had the fried rice again. I just keep forgetting to say more every other meat and no chicken. Because their pork, beef and shrimp are that much better than their drier chicken. We also had the lo mein with shrimp. I liked this dish, but compared to my friends Kung Pao and General Tsao's, it was a bit lower on the flavor, so you have to add sauces, or better yet, mix it with General Tsaos or Kung Pao. Honestly, it was a great combo because the latter two are really heavy dishes, both on flavor and calories. This is especially true for General Tsaos, being it's deep fried and sweet. It's delicious, but so rich I could never eat it all by itself. read more

Food: their food is really fresh. It's served family style. The egg rolls are super fresh and don't leave you feeling stuffed and icky. Not greasy. Service: all servers help serve each table. They were vigilant about making sure we had drinks at all times. Super respectful as well. Ambiance: it's a nice place with lots of room for customers. We had a party of 5. Hunan Pearl USED to be the only Chinese restaurant I would frequent. Well, sadly it's gone way down hill. We got sweet and sour chicken and it was awful- mushy with that fake pink looking sweet and sour sauce. It used to be amazing! The LO mein noodles were over-cooked, just like the vegetables. The fried rice was way below par (I'd rather get it from Panda Express). The Kung Pao chicken was okay- as were the potstickers. Sadly, this will be my last visit there. It tells you something when the food at Panda Express is better than a well-known (and much more expensive!) tradition here. read more

We've been getting take out from here for more than 10 years and their food was always terrific. But the last two times it's been horrible. The hot and sour soup used to be full of very flavorful broth, carrots, tofu, mushrooms and pork. This time there was about 1/2" of grease on top and nothing in the soup but a couple of pieces of carrots. The other items we got were Buddhist vegetables and beef and broccoli. The food was cooked perfectly but the sauce has no flavor any more. The Service was as friendly as always. Just very disappointed in the food now. read more

The sesame chicken was a standout -- crispy, not soggy at all, with a perfectly balanced sauce that wasn't overly sweet. Portions were generous and everything traveled well, which isn't always easy with takeout Chinese food. Definitely adding this to the regular takeout rotation. read more

Hunan Pearl has served excellent Cantonese and Sichuan food for years from this site. the quality and quantity of food it has served to this family in the past 2 years has changed. Expensive smaller portions noted, tastes of artificial seasoning or commercial broths noted now in the food. The authenticity of their excellent food has left. New owners? New cooks? read more

We chose to eat here on a Friday evening. We arrived around 6 pm. We were greeted and seated right away. There were other people dining, but it was not crowded. Our server was friendly and took our order in a timely manner. The restaurant was bright & clean and tastefully decorated. Our food arrived pretty quickly. The wok wonton soup was very good. Probably the best one we have had in the Portland area. My only note is that the wonton wrappers melted off the wontons, so it was basically pork meatballs with bits of wrappers in the soup. Very tasty though. The lemon chicken tasted alright, but it had much more batter than chicken. The moo shu pork tasted pretty good and the pancakes actually held up to the filling very well. The portion size was small though. There was only enough filling to fill the 4 pancakes, and they were not overfull. I'm struggling with the rating, because it's all over the place. Soup: 4.5, lemon chicken: 3, moo shu: 4.5. Value: 3, service: 5, dining room: 5. Would I eat here again? Probably. I would not order the lemon chicken, but would try other things. Super-friendly service, very welcoming to this walk-in traveler. Unfortunately the food wasn't super good. The wontons in chili oil were overcooked, with the noodle wrapper falling-apart and mushy, and the chili oil was more like a thick gravy. The chicken kong pao had only onions to represent the vegetable kingdom--no celery, peppers or carrots or anything else--and again the sauce was heavy and thick and a bit dull.
