The worst Chinese food I have ever had. The broccoli beef, tried three bites of the meat and it was seasoned fat. The Kung pao chicken was just garlicky no spice. The worst part was I could tell that I was going to get sick so I stopped eating immediately started belching and I don't belch. Within about 15 minutes dry heaving. Oh my god do not try this place. I have been brought here for several family birthday dinners and I have reached a point where is this is the option I am not going. We get put into this banquet room next to this little boy hiding behind a desk playing video games loudly and they don't check on us as often as we like. The food options are highly fried and there are not a lot of healthy or tasty options. The food came out quickly, the service was good, staff were friendly and the place looked aged, but clean. I may give them another try again. Oh Yens. What has become of you. Used to be our go to place, but wow has it slipped! Tonight was the final straw. My dad liked his shrimp fried rice, but the pork fried rice was....not good, to say the least. The pork was SUPER dry and had a weird, sickly-sweet taste to it. We ate about 1/4 of it and threw the rest out. The kicker, though, was the "sesame chicken" that was anything but. Instead of what most people would expect (brown, sticky, sweet sauce with sesame seeds, we got plain breaded fried chicken pieces (like you would get if you ordered sweet and sour) with.....3 plastic containers of ketchup on the side. Not a sesame seed in sight. I thought they might have made a mistake and sent us sweet and sour sauce by accident, but no. It's ketchup. When I called, they tried to tell me that this was normal and that it was "homemade" ketchup, and that they include it with soy sauce and sesame seeds (which weren't there) so we can make our own sauce to put on the chicken. Yeah right, pull the other leg, it plays jingle bells. The upside is that they refunded the cost of the sesame chicken, which is nice becasue I tried a piece of the chicken and it was GREASY as it could be. If I had tried the rice before calling, I would have asked for a refund for it as well. Pretty terrible, and it pains me to say that because I used to love this place. Do better. read more

I have ordered take out several times now. The prices are a bit steep but the quality and portion sizes mitigate some of the high cost. The egg rolls are special and worth the price. The won ton soup (only available in the large size) was spectacular. It was filled with meat and shrimp with not too much of vegetable fillers. I love won ton soup and this is one of the best I've had. Beef & broccoli was good and so was the pork fried rice. Definitely going to work my way through their menu. Have been eating at Yen's in Tigard for years. Perfect place for "American" Chinese food. Great Chow Mein with hard noodles on the side. Subgum chow mein offered too. Fried shrimp well cooked, shrimp tender. Cantonese dishes all good. Some popular good tasting Szechuan dishes offered too. Food always fresh and plentiful. Appetizers also well prepared. This is the most overlooked restaurant in Westside. You can barely see the place on main street Tigard. And the decor isn't modern. But service is great and place is clean. One of my friends from Ohio loves Chinese American food, including Lemon Chicken, Honey Walnut Shrimp, Egg Foo Young, Broccoli Chicken and Egg Drop Soup. Yen's is his favorite Chinese restaurant in the Portland Metro Area. I, on the other hand like Shiitake Black Mushroom Beef, War Wonton, Shrimp with Lobster Sauce and Moo Goo Gai Pan. As a Chinese American, I also love their Tomato Beef Curry Chow Mein. Chinese American food is it's own authentic cuisine. It's down home country comfort food for some of us. Yen's is our favorite Chinese restaurant to meet half way since the menu is quite diverse, and the portions are large. If you don't see what you want on the menu, you can ask them if they can make it for you, especially if you know the Chinese name. For diversity, they have an American Food section on their menu, which includes hamburgers, fries, mashed potatoes, grilled cheese sandwiches, fish & chips, and chicken nuggets. This works when your dinner date only eats American food. I must admit, Yen's food is really good. Yen's is open for indoor dining. They have 4 rows of booths, which helps with social distancing and privacy. Yen's also has a large private dining room perfect for meetings or parties. I like it. I'm a big fan of the combo meal so I can try many different things but none of the combos had all the elements I wanted. So I opted for the general tso lunch special. It's just fried rice and chicken. Decent price though. The bag was heavy so there was lots of food. The rice had some pork. I hate the ones that are just essence of pork. It was ok. Some of it was a little too dry. The general would approve of the chicken. The breading just barely stays on but it's the right combination of sweet spicy and pungent. Definitely in my top five. The chicken chow mein is the best. The veggies are crisp and crunching and the flavor is excellent.

Ordered takeout today. Kung Pao chicken and chicken chow mein were very soupy the sauce had no thickehing agents added . No hot peppers in the kung pao. All in all everything was sub par and tasteless. This place has gone downhill since the original owners moved to the beach. We will never be back! read more

Not happy at all. Broc beef was like eating over cooked jello beef. I question the beef! Orange chicken had no orange flavor or much chicken but lots of bitter batter. Shrimp 5 pc. were halved and batter bitter. All dishes were over cooked and the spicing on the pork fried rice was way off and or just old. I just moved to the area and was looking for a place that makes egg foo, young. The typical egg foo young that I've always had since I was a kid was lots of vegetables in it and if you want your meat, my preference is shrimp and you get like three or 4 patties of it with it all covered in gravy. Well, I really hate to say this, but it was the worst egg foo young I've ever ate in my entire life. I actually got sick on it. What I actually ordered was I just wanted simple vegetable with no green peppers or celery cause some places put green peppers in it and I hate green peppers and no celery but all the other vegetables are totally fine. Anyway, I ordered shrimp egg foo yong and I had to open up every piece of what I got a couple days later because I had gotten so sick on it that night when I took it home and ate it. I opened everything up and all that was in it was I had a total of eight small to medium size shrimp and just little tiny sliver of onion that's all that was in it and it was all egg and the gravy was like a gel that would not liquify no matter what when I heated it up that's how I ate it. I bought it home. I didn't eat it till really late because I was busy so I tried to heat it up and it was just made of gelatin. The gravy was, it was disgusting. It wouldn't melt or cover the food, but it was all egg and it was just disgusting and no flavor and no vegetables. Oh little sliver of the onion. I think it was onion. I don't know why somebody would make a dish like that that's gross anyway, I will never go back they lost my business because I could've been a great customer because I love Chinese food, it's really too bad I'll have to find another place that knows how to make it right without all that egg in it they're not supposed to use tons of egg. This place must have used at least eight or nine eggs in it. It was that much anyway what a waste I even tipped them good, but what a waste of $20. People seemed nice. read more

I'm bummed. We've eaten here for years. It was decent American Chinese food. Now, the last few times we've gone in to eat or ordered at the window for take-out, the food is just gross now. The sweet and sour sauce has no flavor. The shrimp that used to be delicious are tiny previously frozen tasteless shrimp now. The crunchy noodles under the sub gum chow mein have a stale, rancid flavor. They no longer have hot and sour soup. They give you paper plates to eat off of and plastic Dixie cups. It's just not good anymore and it's sad because we loved this place. read more

Shit! I thought I had reviewed this place as I've been going here since the early 90s. Apparently, in my post 90s haze, I neglected to review a good old Chinese/American joint that satisfies my craving for seriously meaty hunks of BBQ Pork Ends! Their Egg foo Yung isn't bad either - nice size patties deeply browned with the right amount of stuff inside. Reminds me of being a little kid and my idea of authentic Chinese food - BBQ Pork and Sweet & Sour Spareribs (those tiny little ribs??). Now, I know better than to think this is representative of food actually cooked in China, but I still sometimes yearn for the Americanized Chinese food I grew up on. In the 90s my sadistic boss loved to take employees to lunch here then insist you clear your plate. What the...? He had some issues and so did I! I would get scared to eat here with him 'cause finishing even a lunch plate here is a big order. Please, you city folk, don't come out here to Tigard & eat here and expect any high falutin' genuine Chinese place - remember, this is the burbs and the place hasn't been remodeled (or modeled at all?) in decades (though, why?). It's clean and fast (unless you catch a huge rush) and reasonably priced. (Hint: If it sounds bland on the menu, don't be surprised it's bland when you get it). The service and the speed were great. Very friendly and quick to bring out our food. The beef and green bean dish was great. The beef is very tender. We also ordered the sweet and sour pork. So Yen's has been a staple in Tigard for many many years. It's your regular American style Chinese Food. Portions are good and quick for take out. Downside is servers are a little grumpy or just not super outgoing/friendly. Food itself lacks flavor most of the time. Example is Kung Pow chicken - even when I ordered medium it was bland. We have had take-out and tried the Shrimp fried rice and Chicken fried rice and both are good. We like that they are some what bland. Because that works for our family, we can all spice it up the way we like it and keep the sodium down. Also the Won Ton soup is full of Broccoli, peas and Pork Etc and Super good! We tried and liked the deep fried Almond Chicken, it was still crispy even with take-out and the gravy was good. Ask for mustard and extra Soy.
