Absolutely the cleanest salon I have been to. And the friendliest staff I have ever come across. Visiting the island from Humble Texas and decided to get toes and gel nails and eyebrows waxed. I moved recently to Galveston and have been looking for a spa. I tried a few other places on the island, but this is the my favorite by far. The prices are low and the service is great (I've gotten mani, pedi, and eyebrows done). They are really friendly and were able to sit me right away. Excellent service, great pedi. I was promptly greeted, the guy who did my nails was friendly but let me just relax and close my eyes, and he gave me almost a ten minute massage PER FOOT, plus my calves, and it was GOOD. The receptionist also brought me water, checked my toes twice to see if they were dry, and checked me out while I was in the chair. I visited Joy nails this Thanksgiving week and was very disappointed. I have been coming here for years and will not be returning. I made an appointment since I had 4 in my party and I know they get busy with walk ins. They had no one to help us when we arrived. They acted like I didn't have an appointment when it was clearly written in the scheduling book. I ended up only getting a pedicure since they were so busy and it was the WORST pedicure I have ever gotten. I even asked him several times to rub harder and he ignored me everytime. My girls got pedicures as well and 3 days later the paint all came off. It was horrible service and they never apologized for messing up. The owner is a nice man and I hope he can get his staff in line before his business suffers. I will not be going back that's for certain. read more

I just went last night, so I can't comment to how my shellac mani or delux pedi will hold up, but so far it all looks good. The place seemed clean. They put that plastic bag in pedi water and used the filter for the air supply. I saw a service person wiping down all of the chairs. Not sure about anything else. There service was nice enough, but nothing over the top. The person who did my shellac was quick and they look good. There was no hand/arm massage or pampering like most places even though the price was the same. I'm fine with that if they hold up though. My only concern is that the person servicing me didn't speak English at all. Many times people doing nail services have English as second language, but they get along with vocabulary relevant to the service. She understood absolutely nothing I said. And she was really new. I had stubbed my big toe that morning and broke the nail. I needed her to shape it slightly so it didn't cause an ingrown. She didn't recognize that on her own, and when i mentioned it, poor thing had no idea what i was saying. Eventually, another person came over and assisted - doing the reshaping herself. And, it took her 20 minutes - no exaggeration - to paint my nails. I was watching the clock like a hawk because we were late to meet people for dinner. To her credit, they look good. I think it was just that she was new. The language issue wasn't just her though. I brought a friend who sat next to me and got a foot massage (she'd just had a pedi) and her person couldn't understand her either. It was awkward as she was trying to give a length of time. I am not sure what everything cost, but we were charged $101 for a shellac mani, delux pedi and 45 min foot massage. I left a 20 tip. Bottom line, I doubt you could ever count on consistent quality and I don't like not being able to communicate at all with a service provider. I will probably keep looking. read more

The staff is extremely professional, personable, an it is always immaculate. The owners strive for excellence and make it a conscious effort to please every single client. I've been coming here for a year now and they have been my favorite nail salon on the island, however, my last three visits have not been up to par with their usual standards. First of all let me say that the entire staff is very nice and (sorry not trying to sound racist) most of them speak English well so there are not the usual language barriers that you tend to find at some salons. That's a plus. The first of my last three visits my nails were horribly lumpy. I get into a very relaxed state at the salon and can usually trust them so I had stopped checking. The time before last I was charged 40$ for a refill on the color changing nails. So I guess they raised their prices??? Yesterday I went in and asked for the cheapest color refill possible and was charged 23$. I thought it was 13$. Anyway, she filed a hole in my cuticle until it was bleeding. So I paid 23$ to wear a band aide all day today. Anyway, I do love the staff here and maybe I'm a cheap skate but I might be looking for a new salon soon. Sigh. read more

Here in town on a visit. I have had Shellac manicures since the product came on the market. They advertise Shellac here but it is not the same process or product. Might be most of their business is in acrylics, not natural nails. My tech seemed competent but I will most likely go elsewhere for Shellac. read more

Was having a day out with husband riding we decided to stop at joy nails for two pedicures and 1 manicure it was absolutely wonderful the atmosphere was nice and calm the staff very friendly and pleasant accommodating to all needs. Came to this amazing establishment on a Sunday prior to a cruise. The staff alone made this experience FIVE STARS and that's only the half of it. 1. The facility is by far the cleanest salon I have ever been into. Even the base boards around the salon were clean. Each chair and table were polished and it was apparent that throughout the day the staff cleaned and kept a very tidy work place. There was no smell of acetone or chemicals in the air and no harsh odors. There was classical music and such a relaxing atmosphere that I was certain I was in a 5 star hotel spa getting the full treatment. 2. The staff- the owner was incredibly friendly and went out of his way to make me and my husband feel like we were art of the family! I have no bad things to say about the staff. They completely took small business customer appreciation to the next level. 3. The pricing was very competitive and for the treatment by far underpriced and it is completely obvious why they come so highly recommended. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS SALON TO EVERYONE! read more

I just had a nail emergency, if you can imagine such a thing! I work long hours with no days off for weeks at a time but needed my nails done after hours for my upcoming engagement pictures! I was calling around town asking places when they close, and when I called Joy nails they told me to come on in even though it was 5 min before closing time. Despite this the owner made me feel most welcomed, playing nice soft music, offering me a drink, and gave me a shellac mani without rushing or cutting any corners. There were many many color choices. I had the privilege of talking to her and learning that she has been doing nails for 18 years and recently decided to open her own business on the seawall. She and a staff member that was also present were both very friendly and welcoming. Of note, I rate the cleanliness and aesthetic appeal of the salon very high. I highly recommend this shop to anyone in Galveston, and because of all of the things mentioned above this will be my new regular place! read more

I went in today, hoping to find a nail salon I liked, being that I just moved here. I was told to sit right away and the man started on my nails. I have solar nails. After he did the work to get the previously done color off, he was about to start with the new solar color tips. I kindly asked him to trim my nails first, so that it would be easier for me to tell him how far back I wanted the colored tips to go. He immediately started yelling in his language, threw his utensils down, stood up and shoo'd me away, telling me to go sit somewhere else. Two women started apologizing for him and asked me to let them do my nails. I'm not sure who was in charge, but I couldn't believe what he did. I couldn't make myself stay. It was humiliating, disrespectful, unprofessional and WRONG. I was a paying customer. I'd never step foot in there again. You couldn't pay me to. HORRIBLE attitude. ZERO stars. read more
