I have used this salon for years and have always been happy. Then one of the technicians, Angel, decided I was her client. When I would go she would make me wait for her telling me to only ask for her. After months of this I finally called to ask the owner, Phillip that other technicians be permitted to do my pedicure. Plus Angel didn't always do a great polish, once Phillip's daughter had to fix it before I left. I had my appointment with another technician, Mimi, she was great. Then as I was checking out Vivian (the owners wife) said to me very loudly, "Everyone likes Angel, she does a really good job!" She said other things too but I didn't understand all of it. Then some of the other clients chimed in too. Which let me know she had discussed my call with the other clients. It was extremely unprofessional. read more

Stopped into this place the week of Thanksgiving and I was lucky enough to walk right in without an appointment. Many followed who weren't as lucky. I had the pleasure of having Angel work on my feet. I told her up front that I have very sensitive nerves in my feet and have a tendency to struggle getting through exfoliation on my feet. Angel didn't skip a beat. She exfoliated my feet in such a way that I was able to actually relax during my pedicure without fussing through it. She also gives a mean leg and shoulder rub! If you like a firm deep tissue rub, she is the gal for you. Vivian worked on my manicure. She also did a great job. Wow! Just wow! I read the reviews before going to Modern Nails for a gel manicure and a pedicure, but was so much more impressed with their customer service, cleanliness and kindness! Mimi did a beautiful gel manicure with precision nail shaping and painting. Angel did a relaxing pedicure with excellent attention to details. All the while I was here, this morning, the man who appears to be the owner was cleaning the whole shop and repainting little spots on the walls where paint has chipped. I found modern nails on yelp while staying at moody gardens for a work conference. I will say when I got there I was initially unimpressed due to how small it was and most nail salons I go to have a very updated chic look. This was definitely a "don't judge a book by its cover" situation. This was the best mani/pedi I have ever received. And I have certainly had my fair share of mani/pedis. I had three ladies working on me at the same time. One massaging one arm while another started the mani on the other hand. Then they switched. The lady doing my pedi rubbed my legs for what seemed like 30 minutes. It was heavenly. And they were very meticulous with each aspect of the process. I opted for the combo of a deluxe spa pedicure and a basic manicure. I think that's what it was anyway. It was $38. For what I received I would have paid no less than $90 back home in KC. I tipped them well based on how the super reasonable prices and the high quality of work the produced. If you're in the area and have an hour to spare definitely add this to your list of places to stop. You won't be disappointed. read more

Worst mail place ever. Looks run down. When I asked for Nexgen they looked at me like they never heard the name. Said you mean gel nails? Asked for the price : $45 for "the mail dip" aka nexgen. And $33 for Gelac manicure. I said no thanks I'll do the mani and pedi com I they had on special. Then they asked if they want me to take off my old gel. Really, how else would you do a manicure lol. I asked if it was $5 as other places, no response. Check came they charged $10 so I asked about it. She said yes like on the price sheet that I was never shown earlier. I never got offered a drink/water or anything. Not even the chair massage. She just put away the remote. Other customer even got some snack. Desperately in need of a manicure (forgot about the 4th holiday before coming to the island for July and missed my chance to see my regular manicurist in Montrose). Googled places on the island, and Modern Nails had one of the highest reviews. It's located pretty much in the center of the island off 45th and Seawall in the shopping strip behind Academy. The prices are very inexpensive ($10 for a regular manicure), and I got a 15-minute shoulder massage for $15. Lina was my manicurist; she was super sweet and did a great job on my nails. My only complaint was that almost all of the nail polish colors on the left wall were separated, so not sure if it's lack of use, the humidity of the island, older colors or what. I know I can just shake the bottle, and it should be fine, but I avoided those bottles just in case. For a mid-morning on a Friday in summer, I appreciated I could get in and out relatively quickly, and they were willing to accommodate me as a walk-in. I will definitely be back! read more

After receiving my $30 Mani-Pedi I was disappointed. I heard so many people rave about this place, but I simply was not impressed. I was not expecting that much for the price, but I just felt really rushed while there. My pedicure completed all of the necessary steps, but it was super quick. The massage was barely there, and the paint job on my toenails was not the best. I would have gladly upgraded my pedicure for a couple of dollars to have a more relaxing experience. My manicure was very basic. It's supposed to include a hand massage, but this was skipped entirely Dakota polisher also so thick that it took a long time for them to dry completely. One of my nails got messed up, but I didn't really want to go back. The nail tech did offer to give me a hand massage after the fact, but at that point I was just a little bit annoyed, and I felt like I should not have had to ask for some thing included in a basic service. I don't know, maybe that's just me. As stated another reviews, the place is a bit sketchy on the outside, and that extends to the inside. Some of the chairs have the leather falling off, at first my massage chair was not even turned on. It's just a small local Galveston shop, nothing fancy. For $30 it was a good deal, but I could honestly just go to Walmart for a similar quality service. Again, I got the very basic manicure and pedicure, because that was a special everyone was talking about. It was indeed very basic. I level up if you are looking for a relaxing time. read more

The manicures were very well done and they took their time and made it feel like a relaxed experience. I have not gone for a pedicure yet, but this is the only place I have visited twice in one month...pretty much ever. It was that awesome that instead of doing my own nails I decided to go back and get them done again.
