I just came back from spending a month in Thailand and wanted sticky rice! I'm glad the sticky rice was made authentic and steamed rather than in a rice cooker. However, for $10 it came with a very small portion of rice. The curry was good, was hoping to see some Thai Eggplants in there but didn't. For the pad krapow I thought it was overly salty. Fresh and delicious! The spring rolls with peanut dipping sauce are a must. My go to dish is always the chicken red curry but be warned that when ordering a spice level it can be a tad inconsistent so ordering a level lower is your wisest move, unless you're a serious spice junkie... I really enjoyed the takeout from here, which is why I feel a little bad leaving only 3 stars. Honestly, based on the food alone, I would rate it 4 stars or maybe even close to 5. But I'm very picky about one thing, and it really bothered me. First, we ordered takeout, so I can't fully speak to the dine-in experience. That said, from the couple of minutes I was inside, the restaurant seemed nice and clean. The staff was friendly, and my order was ready ahead of time. Second, the food was great. It was probably the second-best Thai food I've had. I ordered the drunken noodles, and they were delicious. I would definitely get them again. My wife got the Rama and said she liked mine better, but she had no major complaints about hers. I liked her dish too. The egg rolls were also great, and the dipping sauce was amazing, although the portions felt small for the price. So why 3 stars? I really cannot stand when restaurants pass service or online ordering fees directly onto customers instead of building those costs into menu prices. I hate getting to checkout and seeing a surprise fee added at the end. This place is the worst I've seen recently. We were charged nearly $5 in fees for ordering just three items online. Some people might assume that is just the unavoidable cost of online ordering, but the restaurant includes a disclaimer saying 100% of that fee goes directly to them. I think that's ridiculous. As soon as we stepped in we were welcomed by the lovely lady with one of the warmest smiles and welcomes! We were seated right away,she made sure we were ok sitting where she seated us.The lady was patient and never once made us feel rushed to order.We chatted and then we placed our order. I really enjoy the restaurant, the decor and the ambiance, it feels very zen.Our food didn't take long i would guess maybe 10-15 minutes. It was hot,super fresh and very delicious! I really am very impressed by the lady because the restaurant was almost full. I watched this lady tend to every tables needs,delivered the food to the tables,answered the phone,took orders over the phone,took care of the people that were coming in to pick up orders and the ones that were coming in to eat. I don't recall having pad Thai being saucy, the Tom yum seafood was good, it didn't have the fire in the middle to keep it warm, the red curry chicken was good but didn't have the Thai basil it in for that extra flavor. This place was our go to Thai spot after moving to Lakeville. Food was pretty decent. However, I feel I need to write this review to warn others. We noticed when trying to place the order online they use a service for this and charge a 20% markup. Not unusual as they are using a service for online orders, but the 20% markup is based on the order total not a flat fee. This can be very pricey, not mention the cost for their food is higher than most places. (Ex. $75.00 order + 20% = $90.00). So, we placed the order over the phone instead, avoiding the online order service fee. They STILL added the 20% markup calling it a convenience fee. Convenience for what?! I ordered over the phone and have to pick up. This is restaurant...this is their business model, no part of this transaction warrants an added 20% markup for convenience. Double check your order next time you will see what I am referring to. They are gouging their customer base. DO NOT ORDER from here. We have been here many times over the last few years and are typically happy with the food and service. However, we went tonight and were very disappointed. We wanted to order a side of fried rice for our toddler but were told we had to order a kid's meal (which did not include a rice option) or the adult $17 fried rice meal. When it arrived it was tied up and didn't appear that it was opened after leaving the restaurant. As we started to serve up fried rice, curry and pad Thai we found clumps of long curly hair in multiple entrees. When I called to report the manager told me nobody in the kitchen has long curly hair. This is one of my top favorites for Thai food in the area. So so so good! My consistent go to would be their pumpkin panang curry - it's so good my mouth waters just writing this review! Their rolls are perfect, specialty drinks are tasty, the Tom yum soup hits the spot. Their menu is packed with flavor. There isn't anything that I've tried that I didn't enjoy. After recently moving to the 'burbs, I was nervous I wouldn't find my favorite take out food readily accessible: thai curry. Luckily, we stumbled into Joy's Thai and found what we needed. I've tried a few things from Joy's worth highlighting. The spring rolls are good; fresh ingredients inside, good texture roll, and tasty dipping sauce. The chicken satay is delish and worth adding as an appetizer to your order. For the entrees, I have loved the curries, liked the pad Thai, and was just "meh" on the Singapore noodles. Lucky for me all three are gluten free and they seem to take care of dietary restrictions well. Let me tell you more about this massaman curry though... the *perfect* combination of salty, sweet, spicy. Loaded with potato's, mushrooms, carrots and protein of your choice. I always get the order and think. "Wow this is huge, I will have enough for lunch tomorrow!" but never do because it's so good I can't stop eating it. The noodle dishes all have great flavor, but unfortunately the rice noodles have been kind of mushy every time I've gotten them. All in all, Joy's is good. Check it out! read more

Visited this restaurant with my parents and family on 10/3 afternoon - What a headstrong lady (owner/In-charge) she is! She doesn't like the customer to place multiple orders in one sitting. Order all at once rule (phew!) ....expresses too much sarcasm on anything you talk to her. Ex: one of us asked her if they make egg drop soup. She says "Are you looking for Chinese food or Thai food?" ..why can't she just answer whether they do or not. damn it! She served the appetizers along with short plates and simultaneously brings on the table one of the main course dishes (goes away). After a couple minutes we requested her to get the meal plates and her response was shockingly "Sorry! not now" (as she is organizing another table). That was absolutely a rude response. In the middle of the meal course, we repeated an appetizer order because it was good. She gets it but asked us to adjust with the dipping sauce that she served with previous order!.. this is insane! ..we had to insist her to get another one as it won't be sufficient for the new order. Often we think/talk about supporting small businesses. Business owners with this kind of attitude don't deserve the required support from the community. I really really wanted to like this restaurant but I just don't. Their food just didn't have the same great flavors that most thai places I go to have. I went Sunday at 6:50 they close at 9 but posted a sign they are closing at 8 due to slowness. Okay cool- I should have time. Never would I go to a restaurant 30 minutes before closing. Seeing I had an hour and 10 minutes I should have been fine. They were rushing, and forgot two orders of sticky rice. When I went back- i got the great microwave special beeping sound and door clicking noises included. Everyone left and the man helping me was apologetic. The cheese puffs were great- hard to mess up. The eggrolls used regular wonton wrapper. I'm more used to cellophane for Thai eggrolls but each place is different. The green curry had decent flavor. The pd see lew was a but off. The curry fried rice I stopped eating because it was flavorless. The two stars are because of the cheese puffs. Based on the experience- it felt rushed. No one wanted to work. If they wanted to close early- fine but I suggest they stop taking orders so the quality does not go down. Due to the experience- I'd rather drive to Ruam Mitt in Saint Paul. read more

I usually reserve an opinion until two plus visits but this first visit was engaging enough to jump in this pool! Attracted by fellow Yelp reviews attesting to a strong Pad Thai dish, I drove over and found a satisfying new friend! The best Pad Thai (my standard) is to be found in Overland Park KS where I used to frequent a Thai restaurant on 87th street. Now that I've relocated to MN, I need to find a reliable stop to itch my Thai itch. Joy's is great. The dish came out hot and steamy as it should, nicely seasoned to the medium level requested, and with plenty of fresh sliced white chicken, bean sprouts, scrambled egg and veggies all embraced by a delectable light sauce. The peanut crumble was topping the dish as it should have. All in all, a well prepared and presented dish, which will bring me back again. Beer and wine is available as an accompaniment if you choose. A symphony of flavors, which I will look forward to expanding my knowledge of in upcoming visits. read more

Ate here with my kids a few weeks ago and I'm just now getting to my review. Living in MN is hard because I feel like good Thai food is hard to find compared to where I'm from. This place exceeded my expectations! We tried the chicken satay, seafood salad, red curry, pad Thai, masaman curry, and I had Thai tea to drink. Everything was delicious! We live about an hour away in Rochester and my kids now are constantly asking when we can go back. A-MA-ZING! Having eaten Thai food in multiple restaurants across the metro I can confidently say that Joy's Thai is far and away the best Thai food there is! We started with the spring rolls and they were great. The peanut dipping sauce is excellent. Not your typical runny sauce, but it is thicker and just a touch warm which makes it unique. The sweet and sour sauce is good too. My wife and I both had the Pad See Ew, mine was beef, hers was chicken. It was out of this world! The sauce flavor is so unique. The noodles were a perfect texture and the carrots and broccoli just added to the greatness. Finally, they just nail the right amount of spice. We ordered medium and it was perfect. Enough heat so you know it's there, but not overwhelming. Just perfect. Without a doubt, the best I've ever had! Papaya salad was over saturated in dressing/sauce. It came with sticky rice, this is the first Thai restaurant that I've seen do this (and I eat out at a lot of Thai restaurants). It did come in handy for the curry. We also ordered Pad Thai with shrimp and the flavor was on point, but the noodles were very undercooked and there barely any sprouts or anything else in it. It is certainly something I will not order again. The pumpking panang curry with chicken was delicious. Overall, I would try other curries here, but staples like papaya salad and pad Thai were not to my standard. read more

Let me start off by saying I'm very picky with my food . I ordered online takeout from Joy's for lunch one day. I selected the "lunch special" pad Thai that came with 1 cream cheese puff. The cost was about $13.00 (I'm wondering how much the non-lunch special cost). The pad Thai included a choice of protein. I went with tofu. The portion size was decent but I did not like the entree itself . It was a tad sweet with not much other flavor. The online ordering process was a breeze.
