My favorite spot for Thai in the south metro area! Joy's Thai was my husband's favorite spot for years before we met, and tonight, I took my daughter. She loves Asian food, and here's what she had to say: "It's totally one of my favorite places to go if I'm in the mood for Thai. The rama (peanut curry) with chicken was filling, and the pineapple fried rice was fire! I also liked the atmosphere and the iced matcha tea. We were seated right away on a Saturday around lunch time. It's a small but cute place that seems to be a little outdated, but these are also the best places! We came here for the food. There is a small parking lot in back. We started with the chicken satay. It was simple but the two dipping sauces complimented it well! They make a great peanut and cucumber sauce. The pad Thai was delicious! A really great balance of flavors that blended well and nothing ever overpowered in flavors. First time trying Joy's and I am glad we came! They have a nice little private parking lot so it easy to access. We were greeted and sat quickly upon arrival and the whole place was super clean. I ordered the Thom Kha soup with tofu and also got to try the green curry with chicken. Both were so tasty and filling. After a long 17 hours of driving I stopped in and grabbed some Shrimp Pad Thai and their version on Crab Rolls and a soda. 48$ later with a 2.5% credit card usage charge and tip it's NOT WORTH THE FOOD OR SERVICE. My order was wrong and I called later that evening and was told by WHO EVER answered that when I returned and Brought my receipt I could have my order remade. I tried to get that honored today but was met by a hostile manager who say they THEY ARE PERFECT. Less than 1% of mistakes. After offering a refund and to remake the order that I HAD THE RECEIPTS FOR. He spoke to me like I was trash. Like I was trying to scam his business when I did exactly what was asked. He said because of the time that he questioned it. I told him I was back on business. His look of "This Black Man on Business " was very clear. So I just told him I'd leave this review and move on. Trying to support small businesses is hard enough. This is not a place for people of color. I'd suggest you learn to cook these cuisines at home. Being talked like a criminal and to be chased out the door as I said good night was not a good look for your camera as well. You picked the wrong person. I never suspected this unassuming suburban Thai restaurant would be hopping on a Wednesday night, but we arrived shortly before two large groups and one smaller group came in to fill the main dining area. I counted twenty people, including me and my spouse. One person was staffing both the floor and the reception area, which involved handling 2 or more takeout orders at any given time. Another person came from the kitchen to serve the food. Our server was courteous and attentive as she could be, but it did seem like management was not expecting so many people that evening. We really enjoyed the food. The papaya salad was the best I've had in a long time. The papaya and other vegetables were finely shredded, seasoned with fish sauce and spices. The menu said it was prepared with lime juice, but I saw lemon wedges mixed in. It was still good. My spouse ordered the pad prik khing, green beans with red curry sauce and mock duck. The beans were nice and crisp. The mock duck didn't really taste like duck, but the texture absorbed the sauce and made you forget you weren't eating meat. The dishes were served in classy ceramic bowls, and the sticky rice that came with the papaya salad came in a small basket. The building might have been a midcentury diner before. There were distinctive large dining car-style windows framed in wood, now accented with festive silk flowers. The metallic front door also has a nostalgic 1950s look. Hanging from the dropped ceiling were some Asian mobiles of birds. The dishes and flatware reminded me of elegant Thai restaurants I've visited in the past. I can see why this space might be popular with groups. With the smooth jazz and loud conversations, the space felt more like a crowded bar than a fine dining establishment, however. I could still hear my spouse, but this is not a place I would go to relax. This was a great little spot. If we're in the area around mealtime, we'll be back! read more

My date asked me to pick out a good restaurant in the Richfield area, I picked Joy Pattaya. Don't do it, just don't. Yes, it was that bad. We are seated at the table, and there was no silverware or napkins. Not even water. We ordered our appetizers, and we still weren't given our napkins or silverware . We order our dinners, and at this point my date had to grab the silverware from another table. I ordered the Drunken Noodles, and I SPECIFICALLY said "not spicy" because I cannot handle spicy foods. I get my food, and it's spicy. I tell the youngish, male waiter that it's too spicy, and I can't eat it. He precedes to argue with me about the spice level, and he says "THIS ISN'T SPICY! IT'S FINE!" I asked him to bring me another plate, he then says "IT'S FINE." My date said it wasn't a big deal, but had I been by myself, I wouldn't have paid for that dish. Worse than this, I came home and I was pretty much sick the rest of the day from the food. The way my date and I were treated was like the garbage they fed us at this subpar, unprofessional restaurant. DO NOT PUNISH ANYONE YOU CARE ABOUT BY TAKING THEM HERE (I can do caps, too). I might start drooling as I write this review... I picked up Blizzards at DQ next door to Joy's for my work team one day and as soon as I got out of my car the strong smell of deliciousness hit me. I looked around and realized there's a Thai restaurant next door! I kept a mental note to myself that next time I was in the office and wanted Thai food for lunch that I'd have to try this place. It was served hot and with a side of either wontons or an egg roll. The sauce is perfect for dipping the egg roll. There is plenty to choose from their lunch menu. Service is as expected as there is only one person running around taking orders and dropping off your food order. Wait time good and they seat you right away! This is my second visit to Joy's for lunch. This time I went with my daughter in law who is in a wheelchair. I called a week before to ensure that it was handicap accessible which I was assured it was. Well, I'm not sure what their definition of that is but it was anything but. There are two spots in front which you have to drive completely around the building to find. One has a handicap sign and the other does not. We were fortunate to park out there as the handicap spot was already taken. That said, once we got out of the car, the driveway was very icy, the walks had not been shoveled AT ALL making it extremely difficult to get in. We could see no curb to access with a wheelchair and ended up navigating the snow packed curb to get to the unshoveled walk and eventually to the front door. There is a double entry. Thankfully, the second door was propped open and we got in without having to ask for help. The food is good but the restaurant is in woeful need of updating and repair. The upholstery has cracks and holes in it making it most unappealing to even sit there. Although we thoroughly enjoyed our food, getting in and out as well as the need to repair made this trip not as pleasant as it could have been. With the tremendous competition, I'm not sure we would return there. We would find a spot that is truly handicap accessible with food that is just as tasty. read more

This continues to be my go-to place for Thai food. Very easy to call and order ahead for a little to no wait upon arrival. They have decent prices and stay busy. They accept cash and cards. The entrance is a bit crowded so if there are a few people waiting to be seated or waiting for their takeout, it can be a jammed up area. Fortunately when that was the case, everyone I saw were wearing masks as they did require them. They have a small parking lot but I have never had an issue finding an open spot as on my recent visits, most people were there for takeout only. The staff is super friendly and professional. Out of all my visits for takeout, I have only had to wait once. The estimated timing they give over the phone for carryout seems to be mostly accurate. I ordered the basil fried rice with tofu at a spice level 3 (of 5). Unfortunately there was no spice flavor at all. Typically I order level 3 or 4 at other Thai restaurants and it's perfectly spicy and flavored. The lack of spice left it pretty bland.
