My wife and I stopped here after having our cars serviced over at the nearby Hyundai dealer. It was mid afternoon on Saturday and we parked on the north side of the business. Unbeknownst to us this is their bar side. Initially turned off by a patron smoking near the door. After walking through the bar to the restaurant area, we were met by Katie, and directed to take a seat anywhere. Being midafternoon the restaurant only had couple and a six top of people celebrating one of diner's 70th birthday. The rest of the restaurant was empty. I commented to my wife how clean the carpet looked. We reviewed the menu and asked Katie what some of the popular dishes were and if she had her choice between the fish & chips or the clams which would she choose. She praised the fish and said that the clams depend on who is cooking. Said today was a fish day. We ordered a Fish & Chips, a pretzel bites which is new to their menu, and the JP minis with an upgrade to onion rings. The pretzel bites were brought out very quickly. The ten little nuggets of pretzel goodness were delicious. The cheese sauce was a perfect compliment to the bites. Our mains came out just as we ate the last pretzel bite. Let's start with fish and chips. The fried scrod was flaky, delicate, and moist, perfectly cooked. The crinkle cut fries were very good. The cole slaw had a nice crunch and not overly done up with celery salt. It was a dry slaw. The JP minis were at trio of juicy sliders with mayo, mustard, and a pickle slice. Very juice two bite burgers. Struck the perfect balance of meat to bread. The onion rings were a bit over fried, had a satisfying crunch, but some were missing the onion. For dessert we split a chocolate chip lava cake. While it was good, it was a little too much sweet on sweet on sweet. The food and service was above average. Definitely will stop by again. Two thing really were turn offs. I mentioned the amount of cigarette smoke from patrons smoking right near the bar door. Next time I will park in the south side and use that restaurant entrance. Second and perhaps the most annoying is that they charge a fee to use a credit card. No where in their menu or any other signage was this additional fee disclosed other than at the bottom of the bill. If my math is correct it is about 4%. So in summary good food and service, avoid the bar side, and be aware they charge extra to pay by credit card. read more

Chose JPs because it was close to our hotel and had a nice variety on the menu. Has 2 rooms, the bar area and dining room. Sat in dining room as it was a bit quieter. Server was attentive and food was good. I'd say step above diner fare, and I love diners! We both ordered the clam chowder, husband had the Ruben and I ordered the pot roast sandwich. Order came quickly and just how we requested. No mayo for me and light on the dressing for the Ruben. Both sandwiches were delicious. With tip cost was $50 for 2 sandwiches, 2 soups, beer and an iced tea. read more

I had been to JP's about ten years ago and remembered liking it so yesterday while shopping in Holyoke, my mom and I decided to try it again. I'm so glad we did! We were greeted right away. We chose a nice high top table by the window. The sever was friendly and paced our lunch perfectly. We both got wraps with fries that were delicious. The atmosphere was lovely. It felt clean while being family friendly at the same time. We'll definitely return! read more

10/16/2023 = I came there just to have soup/chili. I had the chili. It was great! Only $6.00 for a bowl. The prices were great! Especially in this period of inflation. The servers seemed to be a in rush and I found it was difficult to speak with them. (Of course, it was the dinner hour.)My waitress never returned and I couldn't ask anyone for more tea water. When I asked the plate remover for Key Lime Pie, they had none. In their defense, it wasn't Florida where the Key Limes might grow. I am having Shoulder Replacement in November and although I recently got my 7th vaccine (as a 70 y.o.), I am doing everything I can to get the surgery when it is planned. I wore a mask and checked out both the bar and the dining area. The bar had more seating, more people and at least (?) FOUR large TV's. I didn't see anything special about the ambience but the prices more than made up for that. When I sat at the most isolated table in a corner of the bar, the patron's immediately flocked in to both sides of me. They wouldn't let me sit in the other corner where there were 3 four tables brought together as a large table, and no one was sitting there. I only spent no more than 30 minutes there. Heard good things about this place. Came in after a day of skiing to check it out. Sat down at the bar and the first thing I noticed was the ski sign hanging on the wall, LOVE IT! Bar was busy for lunch the day after Christmas so it took the bartender a few to come over. She took my drink order and grabbed me a menu and the next time she walked past I put in my order, cup of chowder and the pot roast sandwich. She kicked butt though, reminds me of my mom, running around tending to everyone. My first impression was understaffed but she handled everyone including the Keno players. Management needs to give her a raise. Couldn't have waited more than 5 minutes after my chowder came out and my meal was here. Chowder was good. Pot roast was tender. Perfect fill me up combo after a day of skiing. The lady sitting next to me had a cheese and pepperoni pizza which looked equally delicious. I will be back to give that a try. Grabbed a carrot cake for dessert, it was ok. Not the Maggie McFlys carrot cake I have learned to love. Great timing for food and drink arrival but absolutely TERRIBLE service from the waitress, we sat there for at least 10 minutes waiting to pay basically STARING at her while she was literally sitting at the bar talking to people as friends and not doing her job, we could've just walked out and they wouldn't have noticed. Having driven by here hundreds--probably hundreds of thousands of times, I finally decided to go inside one afternoon to eat. Party size was 5 adults, 1 toddler and there was no wait to sit down for a table. I only WISH I'd taken photos, what kind of Yelper am I for not??? I'll blame it on my trying to focus on my two year old who was putting macaroni and cheese in her hair... Speaking of food, she loved her dish, kids mac and cheese. You can't really go wrong with that, and if you did, my connoisseur of macaroni and cheese herself would have had something to say! My dish was okay. I'd ordered the Southwest Chicken Salad. I wouldn't order it again, there was nothing that was incredibly good about it. I will say, walking into the restaurant, I don't know what I was anticipating it to look like but it wasn't what it does. I don't mean this in a bad way at all, it's more of a home-y vibe than I thought! So that was nice. Our table placement however was a bit strange and I didn't care for it. We were sat at the tables and chairs versus the booths. I felt like we were smack in the middle of the restaurant. We WERE however right under the heat vent and all sweating it was so warm. Got the buffalo chicken wrap. It was alittle spicy but didn't seem like the usual buffalo flavor one is used to. There was no blue cheese sauce on it and the chicken was very very dry. In my never-ending quest to seek out all of the local eateries near my client's offices in Western Massachusetts, I was directed to JP's Restaurant up near the Holyoke Mall. JP's is a neighborhood restaurant and bar, which seems very popular with locals. The restaurant sits on Whiting Farms Road which runs parallel to the Mass Pike, and is just north of the Mall. The building houses both a bar area (to the left of the front doors), and a restaurant area (to the right). You can sit and play keno on the bar side, while watching your favorite sporting events, and they have lots of drink specials and pub grub. Over on the restaurant side, there are booths around the perimeter of the room, and assorted tables and chairs down the middle which get pushed together to accommodate different-sized groups. The servers are very pleasant and know their regulars. Since I was the out-of-towner, I sat in one of the small booths and watched the baseball game on the TV screens around the room. I tried not to scream like a tourist every time that the Rays scored against the Red Sox. These folks take their sporting events very seriously, and I wanted to get home alive! The menu has a nice mix of pub grub appetizer specials along with soups, chowders, and salads to start. They have 8 oz. hand-pressed fresh burgers, hot and cold grinder sandwiches (we call them subs down in the South), sandwiches, wraps, and club sandwiches. They also serve pizzas, and a great selection of comfort food entrées including meatloaf, baked ziti, baked scrod, scallops, and chicken parmesan to name a few. I started with a cup of their delicious clam chowder, and then followed that with the blue plate special, which was two big slices of their homemade meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy, and fresh corn. YUM! It was a very tasty meal for under $20. If you want to pick up your dinner without setting foot inside the restaurant, then you'll be happy to know that JP's has a drive-up window for to-go orders. read more

First timer here. I could tell it was popular since every time I'm in town the parking lot is full. As soon as I walked in the door I could also tell it was a local hang out. I sat at the bar and was served fairly quick. Bartender made a few suggestions for dinner which was helpful. I didn't eat much during the day so was hungry. Selected a red pepper and chicken pizza. (I can't remember the last time I ordered pizza). It was pretty good. The crust was soft. Other than the peppers not a lot of flavor though so would not get it again. They do have several items to pick from from 10 dinner entrees, several sandwiches, a few salads and of course a large pizza menu. Though I was not WOWED with my pizza, I would go back. One annoying thing was a local guy at the bar that kept giving the bartender a hard time. It was all in joking, but after 10 min I really didn't want to hear it. Just my thoughts though. read more

Ordered the chicken and angel hair pasta salad without the chicken. I explained to the waitress that I don't eat meat however I do eat seafood. She suggested substituting the chicken with shrimp. I said that would be fine. When the salad arrived it was also loaded with crumbled bacon. I was unaware that it came with bacon. However I would have assumed that having told the waitress that I don't eat meat it would make sense that I would not want bacon. Needless to say I didn't eat. read more

Safety for staff and patrons is obviously their priority. Sanitation is being done every time someone is seated... table tops, sides of tables and all seating surfaces are being attended to. The staff is top notch! From the bussers to the bartenders to the ownership. Food is consistently good. One of our favorite places to go to have good food, meet great people and be treated like family!!
