I'm a college student UMass Amherst, and the Hanger keeps me alive. I order through Grubhub and there isn't always an option to add a side of ranch or seasoning on my fries. I believe that these cost extra on the real menu. In the order notes, I requested an extra thing of ranch and additional seasoning as it's hard to go through 24 wings without the side of ranch, and what do you know, they provided with no additional charge. Great food, great service, OK price for a broke college student. Will be ordering again next week when I'm hung over in bed rot. read more

Hostess was an ass. Don't take reservations, empty tables, no one waiting but wouldn't seat us

Should have walked out when all glass windows and doors upon entering were covered in handprints and obviously dirty. Table was also sticky like it had been wiped down with dirty rags. The dining area smelled like stale beer and dirty oil like a fryolator long overdue a change. Toilets in women's bathroom didn't flush. Nachos looked and tasted like they were made yesterday. When I first moved to the area 10 years ago, The Hangar was my favorite restaurant. Everything was perfect. Recently, though, the quality has gone way down. If you order boneless wings and get large tenders- they will be full of gristle and hard to eat. We've gotten food poisoning before. The restaurant itself is...fine...very bar focused and can be noisy but that's what a wing place is supposed to be. Service has always been good. It might be time for the proprietors to switch chicken suppliers, though. This could be so much better than it is. read more

My family and I stopped by the hanger to have dinner before a umass hockey game. Even though we had 7 in our party we were seated immediately. The atmosphere is sports bar like and very spacious. TVs were abundant and it would be a great atmosphere to watch Sunday football or Saturday college games. The server was welcoming and took our drink order. We ended up getting large orders of boneless chicken wings and bone in wings with french fries. The food came out hot and fresh and was crispy and juicy. Properly sauced and delicious with proper amounts of carrots and celery with dressing. Food was on point and our server refilled our drinks and checked in a few times. Very nice experience. I had not been to the hangar in over 20 years, and it moved which sort of weirded me out. I was a grad student at UMass and we'd go here for beers and wings, my daughter is a freshman there now, so we stopped for a bite to eat. It's actually a 3.5 in my mind. Not great, but not super expensive for what you get, it's a place I'd actually like to hang around and try a bunch of different wings, had a hot chicken sandwich which was pretty good and a good selection of beer. This is the absolutely worst Resturant (if you want to call it) that I've ever been at. Food is terrible, service is rude and slow (read: lazy). Go somewhere else. There's plenty of places to go to in Amherst. We were there for the Primetime lacrosse tournament. Apparently, having more than 10 people in the restaurant will derail the service. Back in the area, ordered some boneless Honey mustard (extra saucy) & garlic parmesan, seasoned waffle fries, bone in mango habanero with blue cheese dip for pickup over the phone. Service was excellent. The food came out really great and was much better than last time. The bone in wings were pretty large and saucy. I enjoyed it so much that I had to order again a few days later (though at a different location) My old recommendations remain (boneless Honey mustard and garlic parmesan) but would like to add boneless mango habanero into my hall of Fame. The positives are this was nice and close to campus and the wings were really good. Now onto the negatives. The wait for our food was insane. It wasn't busy and we waited 45 minutes for our apps and another 30 for our entrees. Food portions, other than the wings, were absolutely embarrassing. We started with Mac and cheese bites and Buffalo chicken dip. The bites consisted of about 5 tiny pieces. The buffalo chicken dip was great but came with about 12 tortilla chips. When we ran out we asked for more and we were told no. This place was hyped up and I'm gonna be honest it was mediocre at best. read more

I've been coming to this location for about 10 years with no issue, however last night at about 8:30 pm I went in for dinner with my boyfriend and we were treated horribly... the host was sweet and told us we could sit wherever, so when we did a brunette server approached us extremely rude, saying that the section was closed (which is fine I'm a bartender I understand) but the way she said it was so rude then when we moved tables to the bar section, I watched her go around telling her coworkers to not serve us (again I'm a server/ bartender I know how it works.) they would all look at us, shake their head, and eventually she went up to another girl and that girl came up to us and told us they were closing early (at 8:30) and they could not serve us (mind you the entire restaurant was full, people were using the arcade games, everyone had food on their tables, people were just coming in as well.) horrible experience, like I said I've been coming here since I was 13 years old and never had experienced something like this anywhere I've eaten. read more

Hangar's the old reliable for good times with friends. I've played in the arcade and on their pool tables countless times and always had fun. They have a nice selection of beer and drinks. Amherst Brewing Company is a craft brewpub that opened in Amherst, Massachusetts in July 1997. It was founded by business partners Greg Noonan and John Korpita. Noonan had previously opened the Vermont Pub and Brewery in Burlington, Vermont and 7 Barrel Brewery in West Lebanon, New Hampshire. Korpita had previously brewed professionally at Windham Brewery in Vermont as well as Northampton Brewery in Northampton, Massachusetts. The two partners had a dream of bringing a brewpub to the college town which had an on-site brewing facility and a tour experience for customers. The original location was at 24 N Pleasant Street, but they moved to their current location on University Drive in 2011. In 2015, Amherst Brewing was purchased by Harold Tramazzo who planned to merge it with his other business: the Hangar Pub & Grill. The brewhouse remained the same, but the restaurant operations were now handled by the Hangar staff. Hangar Pub has five additional locations in Massachusetts, but the Amherst location is the only one to include an on-site brewhouse. Since 2019, the head brewer has been Caleb Hiliadis who was originally hired to clean and fill growlers at the brewery. My wife and I first visited Amherst Brewing in April 2014 while we were visiting some Massachusetts breweries that were new to us. This was one year before they merged with the Hangar Pub & Grill. The brewery is practically on the UMass Amherst campus and is a popular watering hole for the students there. The interior was nice and offered billiard tables and a lounge area for customers. My wife and I ordered and shared a taster flight of six beers which included "Worthy Pilsner", "North Pleasant Pale Ale", "Cascade IPA", "Postmaster General" (Double IPA), "Massatucky Brown" and "Two Sisters Stout". The Double IPA and Stout were our favorites. We didn't get any food, but the food we saw other customers getting looked pretty good. Some of their specialties include wings, various bar bites, sandwiches, wraps, burgers, fish tacos, and mac & cheese. I didn't have a great experience but it did not keep from having a good time with my friends after running the 16th annual hot chocolate run for safe passage To keep this short and sweet the French onion soup that I ordered had a hair in my cheese and I found two other hairs as I started to drink my broth. The soup was not all that great and I should have went with the clam chowder. Happy to see that they took this off the bill and offered me another soup. I also ordered the pulled pork sandwich which was good. One if my friends had their order screwed up, the high rise sandwich he ordered with turkey ended up coming to him with roast beef. They brought him a fresh sandwich and took that one to go which is also nice of them. I don't know if the chefs had a Saturday night hangover or what but with all the radio advertisements I hear I definitely had higher expectations. Horrible service. Over an hour wait for food and the general manager did not even acknowledge this wait asking only if we wanted to cancel our order. With young children who needed to eat this wasn't an option. They proceeded to argue with us as to when the food was put into their system which was a good 20 minutes after the order was placed with the server. I am beyond disappointed with service and shocked the manager on duty did NOTHING but argue with their customer. Horrible customer service. Favorite spot for wings! My favorite flavors are garlic parm and honey mustard for sure! Some great appetizers are the fried jalapeños and the nachos (which all the sizes are huge). Had a great time at the hangar the other night! I've been coming here since college, so this place has always been nostalgic for me. I love the sporty ambiance and bar set up, and the beers from Amherst brewing are top notch. We got the wings (of course) and a flight of beers to try. I loved their orange creamsicle sour! I'm not usually a fan of sours but this one was so good. They also had a collab coffee stout with Shelburne Falls Coffee roasters that was delish. Not minority friendly well not tonight they weren't. Walked in with my family to two front hostesses who let us stand their without greeting us. Dark haired girl looked at us and walked right by us. Dark haired guy server stared at us until we asked were they seating and he replied do you want to eat here? It's 15 min wait do you feel like waiting? Made us feel immediately we were not welcome here. Managers should really retrain them in customer services or hiding their bias and feelings when they work the front. Immediately felt my money was not appreciated so decided to leave. They didn't even ask what was wrong just snatched the buzzer they gave us. Terrible experience for the 10 min I was there. My go-to for chicken wings! The Hangar is a fun restaurant to visit with ample seating and a diverse menu. Obviously, it is well-known for its delicious chicken wings which comes in many different flavors. I came for the beers and did not leave disappointed. There is not a flight per se but you can order as many 6 oz pours as you want. I trended towards the fall selection. The two highlights were the pumpkin beer and the saison. The saison was very flavorful with a very light body. Very drinkable! We also shared some tater tots while watching some football. Great tots! I came to hangar again to celebrate a friends birthday. We ordered a total of 6 lbs of bone in wings and the portions honestly felt so small for the price we were paying. There were about 20-24 wings, but they were pretty small looking. I wish Hangar would just list how many wings are for each size. I also asked for a lot of celery and our waitress gave us like 3 dinky looking pieces of celery on top of the wings LOL. It was funny but it also made me question the waitress. We ordered mac and cheese bites which looked like deep-fried kraft mac and cheese, like it came out of a microwave. It was a very small portion and super disappointing. I ordered a drink called the "pop bomb" which tasted like cotton candy and vodka (not a good mix). It was too sweet and the drink was so small....another disappointment. What I really enjoy about hangar is its fun pool and arcade games which is a great hangout spot. The wing flavor I did really enjoy from here, however, was the Hot Garlic. Came here recently to visit the boyfriends alma mater - Amherst College - and the first thing we did was drive straight here to have their wings for dinner. Because I'm a total n00b at this, I mistakenly ordered the "bone-in" wings, because I never, ever go boneless (those are chicken nuggets). I am warning you not to make the same mistake. The boneless wings here and FAR superior to the bone-in. Much more chicken, much more flavor, juicier and more tender. We're talking apples to oranges here. There is no comparison. Beau tried to warn me, but didn't push hard enough. I learned my lesson though. Place is great.
