When we arrived, a young employee did her best to find the hostess and get us seated. After a few minutes, she honestly seemed more flustered than we were, she apologized and offered to seat us herself. We got settled, I ordered a margarita, and then I noticed a large dog roaming around. No leash, no owner in sight. (Later found out the owner owns the bar, the regulars are very familiar with the dog) I looked down at the menu, then looked back up, and the dog was literally face-to-face with me. We got up to leave immediately. A dog-friendly patio? Sure. That's completely fine. But allowing a dog to freely roam throughout both the outdoor patio and the covered upstairs area is baffling to me. (My last visit a dog was on the table, I assumed the young staff just didn't know how to approach the situation, but tonight shows this is how Hideaway operates day in and day out) When I explained my concern to the waitress, she said she understood and asked me to close out my tab for the one margarita I had just ordered and hadn't touched. No ma'am. I'd been there less than ten minutes, and for me, this crossed a line. Clearly, some guests enjoyed it. I saw people petting the dog and calling it over. Different preferences, and that's their choice. But mine is different. I won't be back, and if I recommend this place to anyone, it will come with a warning: dogs aren't just allowed here- they appear to have free rein of the space, whether that's on tabletops, near your food, or directly in your personal space, whether you want that interaction or not.

The special for burger week was the Zaddy which came with pickled red onion, lettuce, goat cheese, fresh jalapenos and raspberry jam on a potato bun. Their burgers are 1/4 and unfortunately the meat got completely lost under so much going on. Goat cheese and raspberry are powerful flavors and the jalapeno slices were thicker than the patty. I didn't even taste the pickled red onions. The very last bite was more meat than topping and I could actually taste the beef. It is a shame because it was really good. The quality of the meat and the sear on the burger were well done. Their regular priced burgers range from $10.50 to $14, and sides are extra. It is pretty steep for a 1/4 lb burger, and I would suggest something with a bit less flair.

The Gusto Burger was a solid burger overall. It had good flavor and a nice balance of the toppings without anything overpowering the beef. The Sweet Heat Burger was the standout for me. I liked the combination of sweet and spicy, and the heat wasn't overwhelming. It gave the burger a little more flavor and personality compared to a traditional burger. We also tried the tots, and while they were crispy, they were overly salty for my taste. The amount of salt made it difficult to really enjoy the tots, so I'd probably skip them next time. Between the two burgers, I'd personally go with the Sweet Heat. If you like a burger with a little sweet heat and don't want anything too spicy, that's the one I'd recommend trying.
