J's Prairie Rose Café in Laramie is a must stop for locals and travelers alike. I think Yelp & Nextdoor drive the business here underneath it all. Lots of travelers find it on Yelp and lots of locals deem it a Nextdoor favorite. The place is bustling on a random Monday filled with people the servers know by name and with those they dutifully seat and meet. We were the latter. Our server was friendly. The place is not a diner by east coast standards but instead a small storefront containing a restaurant. It has a room in front and one in back. With the kitchen and bathrooms in between. The difference here is the food! It is 5 Star Midwest type fair here. Good portions and reasonable prices. Oh my! This place had such good food. It easily was the best meal I ate in a week. We sat down already knowing Guy Fieri ate here but didn't know much else. Somehow through pure chance we ordered the three dishes that are the locals favs as we noticed on a card at the table after ordering. The breakfast burrito was the bomb. Yes, you should order it! The eggs with crispy hash browns inside and your choice of meat, I did bacon, was so tasty with the green chili poured over it. It was plate licking good. The 7220 burrito was also a fave with the pork and the same green chili sauce. The chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy was also so tasty. We didn't stop there because we heard about homemade pie and homemade cinnamon rolls. The cinnamon roll was medium sized with home made icing and lots of cinnamon so decadent. The pies we had, peach & strawberry rhubarb, had flaky buttery crusts and full of fruit. One we did as is and one ala mode with a hearty portion of vanilla ice cream. Sooooo good! read more

My favorite meal at my new favorite spot! A true western diner with Wyoming hospitality! Very very busy, and I was impressed with the speed at which we were seated. With all the hubbub, it was amazingly quiet. Everyone was talking and enjoying their meals, yet we had no problems hearing each other. The coffee gal had our coffees to us asap, with water, and kept them full the entire meal. Our waitress, Keeley greeted us with a warm smile and friendly demeanor. And before we knew it, our meals were served up hot and oh so scrumptious! I definitely recommend - it's worth the 5-10 minute wait! You won't be disappointed! This place was rated well, and we were looking for a good breakfast place. It didn't disappoint us, even though they were busy. It was featured on Diner's Drive-ins and Dives with a plaque and wall art to confirm. We got a table quickly and the service was attentive and fast despite that they were busy. They offered mimosas and bloody Mary's to complete the breakfast experience which we chose to partake. My husband got the smothered breakfast burrito and said it was very tasty. I chose to the Prairie Rose Omelet with hash browns and sourdough toast. I loved the omelet which was fluffy and flavorful. The sourdough toast was very good as well, toasted perfect and many jams to choose from on the table. They had famous sweet rolls that sell out quickly, so I took one to go just to make sure I tried one. It was very good, even the next day. The low point was the overcooked crunchy hash browns that didn't add much to the meal and I didn't eat them all. This is forevermore my go-to breakfast spot in Laramie! Came here with my friend and managed to grab seats at the bar. I thought this place was a tiny diner, but apparently there's much more seating than meets the eye. Would still be challenging with a big group. Parking is easy. Busy place with a hustling set of staff. I ordered a Corned Beef Hash, which was DELICIOUS. I was jealous of my friend's Steak & Eggs. Of course, it's Wyoming! Definitely getting that next time. While traveling to Pinedale Wyoming on my way to the Annual Mountain Man Rendezvous and Festival we spent the night in Laramie and were directed here by a recommendation from the clerk at the hotel and am I ever glad that we took that advice. When we arrived there shortly after 10:00 a.m. the place was already bustling and quite crowded but we were lucky enough to find a table upon entering. The place had a lot of character, kind of funky old character, if you know what I mean, it's the kind of place that I love to go to and that I'm always looking for when I travel. All the people working were mostly younger tatted, pierced rock and roll looking fun people and a couple of ladies that look like they've been serving tables since the dawn of time and they had it down to a fine art. Grandson Jett had the Kid Pancake plate plus a side of Bacon, to boot. I had a wonderful Omelette that was swamped in Green Chili and I was literally in breakfast heaven. My brother Bill had the breakfast bowl scramble which is the sort of thing he eats frequently when we go out for breakfast. I wish I remembered our server's name because she was great she was bantering and firing back all the goofy comments at me that I was handed to her and I think I had found somebody who bats in my league. She looked early 20s and talked about having a son at home. Everyone I interacted with their made me feel very welcome and accepted, which doesn't always happen when you're from out of town. For years when passing through there we have stopped in Laramie because we know there's a Freddy's and a Jersey Mike's there that we usually eat for supper and then we grab something for breakfast and head out in the morning from the hotel. I have now learned where every breakfast in that town will be spent by this patron. It's old and funky and some people might call it dirty but it was nothing of the sort. Maybe the bathrooms could use a little paint or the hallways or whatever but I think a lot of those things add character to older buildings like this in the same way that having the dining room chopped up into various parts of what used to be somebody's home or another sort of business just adds fun to the whole situation. If you're in Laramie go right downtown and find them and you will not be disappointed. Fantastic food, quick courteous service and delightful atmosphere is what you'll find at J's Prairie Rose. I'll never spend the night in Laramie again without eating breakfast in this place. Check them out and you will not be disappointed. read more

For a Friday mid morning they were still hopping and yet greeted us the moment we walked in. We were directed to a table and had hot coffee almost faster than we ordered it! Despite the place being packed to the rafters for lunch, I got a seat at the counter and was eating within about 15 minutes. What blew me away was the homemade pie. Guy was right. Had the Prairie Patty Melt, cooked right, fresh with crispy fries. Wife had French Dip, was tender beef and rich aju.

Found The Rose on our meandering road trip. The line /wait was out the door, but they sat us relatively quickly. We had great service and we ordered one the combo plate breakfasts because we like a little bit of everything. Food was great & I love the history of the restaurant. read more

We stopped by for lunch during our family road trip. It was packed, which we thought was a good sign. It took a while for the waitress to take our order and took even longer for the food to come out, but the food was delicious. My younger son usually never finishes a hamburger, but he ate the whole thing before I finished my cup of green chili. Our waitress was very friendly and attentive, and also my son and I were delighted to see one of the cooks in the kitchen was wearing a Sleep Token (Even in Arcadia) t-shirt (my son was also wearing one), haha. Absolutely fantastic resteraunt . One of the best breakfast resteraunts I can remember. I poured in here with a large crowd as soon as it opened at 7. Thought it would be 30 minutes before we were waited on. The resteraunt was completely packed but we were waited on quickly and the food came out very quickly. It's been my numero uno since I was 4. Went from a Chinese inspired dinner spot to the most wonderful breakfast joint over the last couple decades. The green chili is a great flavor and good in a burrito. But catch me ordering a chicken fried steak and eggs for brekkie plus a cinnamon roll to go. Lunch is good too if you want to beat the crowd and get a patty melt - DROOL. It gets crowded on weekend breakfast so go before 8! No frills but great service. read more

Batter didn't constantly fall off. Hash browns were perfect! Crisp top, not overly oily, bottom wasn't mush! [Service] seat yourself, waitress was nice and quick. Everyone friendly and knew a lot of locals - comfortable. Stopped by a few times if we wanted dessert and how the food was tasting. We visited on a Sunday morning, and the place was so full it was almost packed to the rafters! It's difficult to say why that might be, but I suspect it's because there's simply not a whole lot of other options for breakfast in this area... Tip: The biscuits and cinnamon rolls they serve here are house-made :-) We all had different things - I went with sausage, eggs, and hash browns. The food was OK, but nothing to write home about. Lots of history in this little place. Cozy up to the counter or grab a seat at a table. On a Friday around lunchtime, it was hopping. We grabbed one of the last two tables. My first choice was French toast but they don't serve after 11am so my second choice was a Denver omelette sans cheese sauce. It was good and the hash browns were excellent. So crispy. Husband had the club sandwich and tots. Also very good. Service was excellent, especially since it was so busy. Hubby and I stopped by today for breakfast at around 7:30. People were already there, and you could tell this was a favorite stop for most of them. We were immediately greeted by a waitress. She was friendly and helpful the whole time, and kept our coffee HOT! And it was good coffee. These two guys in the kitchen do a super job. White men can COOK! My omelet came out hot from the griddle, with a side of crispy hash browns. I had to have a little egg yolk, so I also ordered an egg over medium. It was perfectly cooked. Visit this wonderful gem! We planned a trip to Laramie to go to the University of Wyoming Geological Museum and have breakfast afterward at J's Prairie Rose. My husband had read great reviews, and it had been on Diner's, Drive-Ins, and Dives, so we were looking forward to going there. We didn't have to wait long to be seated. All the tables were taken but there was room at the counter, which was fine with us. Our server brought us our drinks and my husband ordered the 7220 burrito and I ordered the breakfast burrito. By then, several tables had opened up and it wasn't too busy. I noticed the chefs putting plates of food under the warming lights. The servers were delivering those plates to the diners. I then saw two plates put up; each one had a burrito. I told my husband that was our food, but then realized it could belong to someone else. So, we waited and waited and those plates were just sitting there. There were 4-5 servers where the food was, but none were taking those plates and those plates with the burritos were the only ones up there. I looked around for our server but didn't see her. When I looked again, I saw her and it appeared she was doing something with the flatware at the far end of the counter. So, we waited and were hoping our food would be ready soon. After a bit, our server left the flatware, took those two plates from under the warming lights and gave one to each of us. I guess the bulbs must have burned out in the warming lights because, as we began to eat our food, it was quite apparent that it wasn't hot. It was barely lukewarm; even the green chili that covered the 7220 burrito was not hot. We ate anyway, but were very disappointed. We both quit eating when half of our burritos were left. We each got a box to go and took them home. We ate them the next day and nuked the them in our microwave. They actually were hot and delicious at our house.
