So, we were in town for a short two days - a memorial for my father. We live in Los Angeles (Pasadena, specifically). We try to live a very healthy lifestyle, food wise. It's annoyingly hard and expensive. It's not snobbery, it's purely trying to eat healthier foods with less chemicals, etc. Our family member recommended Melissa's and me not being a vegetarian, was kinda skeptical. We opted to try this out - when in Rome... It's a small, cozy place. Staff were really nice. Menu was surprisingly large for a small Wyoming town. The five of us all got different things - lots to choose from. It was all AMAZING! Everyone, including me, loved it. It was fantastic, and portions were large! But what shocked me was the bill. Now if you're from somewhere else, it may not feel this way, but being from LA, the bill was about 1/2 of what I thought it would be. Given it was very affordable, we left a very generous tip as the staff was great. We can't wait to go back one day. We came to Sweet Melissa on a weekday night and sat outside with our 2 pups! Our server was literally the best- he was so kind, funny, and very attentive to us and our dogs. He brought us a water bowl for the dogs, and he gave us a ton of recommendations on the menu as well. For our meal, we started with the dolma and kimchi pancake. The dolma was great, but the star here was the kimchi pancake! It was crispy, flavorful with the dipping sauce, and so delicious I wish we ordered 2. For our entrees, I had the General Tso's cauliflower which was the best fried cauliflower I've ever had. They were sooo extremely crispy and very flavorful! You can't go wrong with these or the cauliflower wings. The sauce on this was a tad spicier than I normally like that day, but that did not bother me given how delicious the dish was. My partner got the lettuce wraps which had a yummy tofu scramble that we also really enjoyed. Overall, I love the concept of comfort vegetarian food that Sweet Melissa offers, and I am so glad we stopped by here. My husband and I came in on a Friday around 6:30 PM. We waited about 30 minutes to be seated, which made sense for a busy local spot, but the service once seated was painfully slow. After getting dropped off two waters, it took forever for the waitress to return to take our order. The food was a mix of a total hit and major misses. We started with the Buffalo cauliflower wings, and they were fantastic--super flavorful, perfectly crispy, and honestly the best I've ever had anywhere. Unfortunately, the entrées fell completely flat. My husband ordered the Portobello bánh mì with garlic potatoes, but the mushrooms were barely cooked and lacked seasoning. He will eat almost anything, but he couldn't even finish it. My black bean burger was also super dry and hard to get through. To top it off, when our food arrived, our soda glasses were completely empty. We asked for refills immediately, but it took at least 10 minutes for our waitress to bring them back. We wanted to order dessert, but after waiting so long for basic check-ins, we didn't want to risk sitting there for another 20 minutes. I was visiting Laramie with my husband and our two dogs this past weekend. We're both vegan, and we were thrilled to find the vegetarian cafe Sweet Melissa. Since we had our dogs, we sat on the patio. Any other day, we wouldn't have done this - it was nearly 90* outside without a single cloud in sight - but our car was in the repair shop and we didn't have another option. We made a note to order and eat as fast as we could. We had our drink orders taken, and the server brought our dogs out a fresh bowl of water. We were waiting for a long time to get our drinks, and even longer to order our food. There was a sliver of shade that our dogs were able to lay under, but us humans were absolutely roasting. After waiting for 20 minutes to order our lunch, I actually went inside to order myself. We spent another 20 minutes waiting for our food to come out, our drinks nearly hot from the sun. When our food came out, the server apologized for the lack of shade and mentioned that Sweet Melissa does have shades, but they don't stand up against the wind, so they take them down. (That's not particularly useful information.) The food? Absolutely incredible. At this point, we had spend double the time we wanted here so we scarfed down our food and cashed out. I would have rather been warned about the patio and suggested ordering something to-go over being told (after an hour) that they know there's an issue with the patio being exposed in direct sunlight during the middle of the day. I'm visiting my daughter from Colorado and she suggested we eat here for dinner. She had been here a couple of times before and liked it. We split the spinach salad. Absolutely delicious!!! I could have had just this for dinner. So yummy and satisfying. We also split the lentil meatloaf with mashed potatoes. I really had a hard time with this rating. I'm going to say this is a high 3 for me ultimately. I'm on vacation in Denver and decided to drive up on Memorial Day & was pleased to find a vegetarian/vegan place that was also open. So I ordered the vegan Ruben (with seitan), a side salad (with vegan Greek dressing), a Bloody Mary, a kimchi pancake, and a piece of chocolate cake for dessert (don't judge me!). I think I'd have been happy with just the Ruben, though. The Bloody Mary wasn't that great (just not great depth of flavor) and I didn't care for the kimchi pancake (I'd never had one before so maybe it was just me). The side salad was weird - I've never had a side salad with whole baby carrots & celery pieces (think the size you'd put peanut butter on), a lemon wedge, and whole slices of tomato, just not great? I also got the wrong dressing (I thought it was wrong but I'd already poured it on my salad). The chocolate cake wasn't anything spectacular but it was good (add raspberry sauce). So the Ruben - it was really really good. I chose seitan and vegan smoked provolone. Not sure why the dressing came on the side but there was plenty to spread on. Bread was toasted nicely, just an overall delicious sandwich. Service was alright, not super helpful when I had questions about menu suggestions or enforcement of the 2 hour parking but he (mostly) got the job done. Plenty of inside seating, some outside seating (if you don't mind the occasional train across the street), and a bar area. Would I come back here? For the Ruben - all day long - and to give some of the other desserts a try. read more

Look, Laramie doesn't have the best food. If you are traveling here, my advice to you is to pick your restaurant on vibes alone - and the vibe here is winning. Super old building in the heart of downtown with large windows that face the train tracks. The owner is such a delight and obviously cares very much about the business. I've been here a couple of times while passing through Wyoming from camping and I love stopping here on our way back! The service is beyond sublime and the food is delicious. Most recently I had the dolmas , the tofu and broccoli with coconut rice and the green chili Mac. Off the top the rice - while a bit dry and quite crunchy actually carried such a nice coconut flavor and if it were to be softer I would've just eaten it by the buckets. The tofu was crispy and the service was so filling. The dolmas were lemony and fresh. And the Mac hit the spot. As a vegetarian I normally feel underwhelmed with vegan Mac but this was flavorful and cheesy! Great work and I can't wait to stop by next time we're in town! read more

This was my wife's pick for dinner and I being a carnivore was hesitant to go. I lost and we drove down to first street for dinner at Sweet Melissa's. We arrived at 6pm on a Wed evening and were promptly seated at a corner table by the front window. Their menu was three pages of apps and dishes all labeled with keys indicating contains eggs, dairy, honey etc. . I gravitated to the back page that listed specialties and found a couple ravioli dishes that piqued my interest. Asking our server for her opinion she pointed me to the ravioli with chipotle cream sauce and raspberry sauce. My wife copied me and ordered the same dish. We also ordered a small Greek salad to share as I am a sucker for feta cheese. For drinks I picked an Odell IPA off their chalkboard list while my wife got a glass of Malbec. Our ravioli dish was very tasty. The chipotle sauce was sneaky spicy but the raspberry sauce cooled it down a bit. The accompanying garlic bread could have toasted more but other than that no complaints. The Greek salad to start was fresh and yummy. The warm pita bread was a nice bonus. This is seriously the best restaurant in Laramie (maybe in all of Wyoming). It doesn't matter if you are vegetarian or not, you are going to love their food. I also recommend their lasagna and can say I didn't leave a morsel on my plate. Of all the items I've had, the only one I didn't care for was the vegetable stir fry with Thai peanut sauce.
