Had a Sweet 16 Karaoke party at Ju Rang this weekend for about 25 teenage girls and boys. We had their large private room, and it was a great setup. The room was very nice, and there was plenty of open space where the kids could sing and dance. There were several big screens for the lyrics, two microphones, and a huge digital song library that was easy to use to select songs. We ordered lots of fried rice, Korean chicken wings, and french fries, which were all very tasty. A few kids had some of the traditional Korean dishes, and so did my wife, and they all said those were very good as well. The service was friendly and attentive, and everyone had a great time. It as just awesome as a parent to see my daughter and her friends having so much fun. She couldn't have been happier with how the party turned out, and I felt the same way. They have no indication saying that kids are not allowed. No signs on the outside that say "kids not allowed Monday thru Friday". I brought our entire family and they said we would have to take our order to go (at 5pm on a Wednesday night). Seriously? They also said we would be available to eat during breakfast and lunch hours with our kids, but not dinner. Their website and Yelp both state that they don't open til like 4pm. So... My thought of this place has just gone to crap. I've been here countless times in the past, but won't be bringing my business back here. This place is beyond awesome! My coworkers and I chose to do a dinner and karaoke night. We were so happy with the experience. Ju Rang was top notch in our books. When it comes to their food the flavors are bold and so appetizing. We tried their squid pancakes, chicken wings, and bulgogi. All were great choices. I recommend them. I ordered DDUKBOKKI() and Beef Intestines(), it was complete failure. Rice cake was under cooked I couldn't even chew it cuz it was too hard and the sauce was too bland and thin almost like soup and taste nothing but spicy. Beef Intestines() was too salty and I think the beef intestines were not fresh at all. They used garlic too much, it just taste like garlic with soy sauce. I will never ever gonna go back. I am not picky about food. And I am not the person writing the review often, but I really want to let you guys - who want to have good food and service (service was not quiet there yet but wouldn't mind if the food was great) avoid this restaurant. This is THE place to take your friends for a good time! It has delicious Korean food, but I always get the bulgogi (best I've had yet) and the seafood pancake. I suggest you order these with some wings to share and korean wine or soju (be careful with that soju though! I drink it with a sprite). Besides the food, Ju Rang has the best atmosphere someone in their 20's like me could ever ask for. The music is chill and hip (not mainstream), I love all the songs they played. The waiters don't bug you unless you buzz them, and they're informative if you're not familiar with Korean food or drinks. There is a nice feeling of privacy, which is perfect for a date night (especially the dim lighting) or just to hang out with friends. It's not busy before 8PM whenever I go. I went a few weeks ago for dinner with a friend and had the best Korean style fried chicken; baked very lightly with many choices of mild to spicy sauces and they were all good. Also tried a new shrimp dish wrapped in bacon, and the bacon was just right, not overpowering the dish. We enjoyed it with a very fresh Korean rice wine that others have made claims it is "good" for you. Some points to make - a lot of TVs with ESPN, etc. - variety of food with chicken and other Korean dishes - Billiards, and now Karaoke will open soon. - Since it is a Bar-centered (not restaurant-centered) it is a bit pricey for the quality of food - Both spicy rice cake and cheese donkatsu (pork cutlet) were adequate but not mind blowing. Whenever I am visiting family in Chicago, I make sure I visit Jurang! I love their booths (spacious, private, and lovely decor) and their food. My favorite dishes: Jjampong (spicy seafood noodles)- good to share with 3-4people. Lots of seafood! Spicy baked chicken -comes out hot and crispy. I also tried the garlic one but I prefer the spicy one. Kimchi cheese fries - OMG carb overload but it's SO good. Tons of kimchi on top. Don't get me wrong, I love coming here because I do like the food here and I like the aesthetics but I only come here when my friends want to or if my mom is craving their "fire chicken", which is once a week. Their food is all around really good but their prices are way too overpriced. It's in a pretty nice neighborhood where most of the restaurants are overpriced so they can get away with it pretty easily. All of the times I've been here I've had servers with an "I don't care attitude". They're not rude at all but they are not very...friendly. They just have very blank faces with monotone voices and barely say anything other than taking the order. They never check on the tables and only come around when you click the button calling the server over. I don't even mind clicking the button to call the waiter over but they come after you click the button about 5 times in a 20 minute period. I'll still be back because like I said, the food is good and it's a good place to go with friends. The service may not be the best but it's worth dealing with the service in my opinion. The service at this place is non existent to terrible and the waiter with a glasses completely ignores you and what your order. What kind of a waiter forgets your order completely. He who seems to be writing everything down on his little note pad forget your order not one time but 3 times and make you guys sit there forever to bring anything. We made a point to stop back out here on the way home from Wisconsin. After our experience, I have to say that this has solidified itself as one of my favorite Korean spots in the Chicagoland area! We came for an early dinner on a Thursday - around 5 PM and the place was pretty empty. For that reason, I think the service was a bit more attentive. However, the food took a while to come out. When it did start coming out, it came out at rapid succession. This time, we ordered: - Sweet Garlic Ddeokbokki (Small): An interesting take on the original dish. The flavor was slightly sweet and salty, and the portion size was pretty good. I would recommend this size over the large, simply because I felt like the large just had one more piece of fried mari/dumpling. I do like the standard ddeokbokki over this though. - Half and Half Chicken: (1/2) Corn Chicken, (1/2) Buldak/Fire Chicken: I think this is probably the best deal here! We had to keep asking ourselves if this was the right size for the order. 1/2 chicken is much more than you'd think. We were a bit surprised that the corn chicken was basically just normal fried chicken. However, it was extremely crispy. The star of the show was definitely the fire chicken. It burned so good! Definitely add cheese. - Bulgogi: My boyfriend needed his meat, so we ordered bulgogi. It was well marinated and a good portion size, with good char. The food here is really amazing. I've had everything from the ddukbokki to the green onion chicken, and nothing disappoints. It's a good idea to come with more people so that you can try a variety of dishes. I love that they have curtains and booths to give your table privacy from those next to you.
