Gathered for our monthly Chew Crew dinner. We enjoyed the corn with cheese, beef bulgigi, another beef dish but can't remember what it was called (with beans, sprouts),the fried chicken, which was delicious and crunchy, and finished up with a delicious take on halo halo which had strawberry shaved ice and a ton of toppings. We were celebrating a birthday and they brought the birthday boy a Moon pie with chocolate sauce and a sparkler. It was very sweet of them to l celebrate with us. A couple of folks in our party had a few drinks. They also said those were good. It said karaoke, but no one was doing karaoke and we were so busy eating, we forgot to ask about it. Service was very good. The wait staff checked in on us often. I really loved that the tables had a little drawer that had all the utensils and napkins that we would need throughout the dinner. We came on a Sunday evening for an early dinner with a large group (~20 people) and squeezed into ~4 tables. The restaurant was much smaller than I expected and filled up quickly. Our group shared the following: popcorn chicken, stir-fried chicken gizzards, fried eggs with Spam, corn cheese, truffle French fries, seafood pancake, bossam (pork belly, shrimp paste, lettuce wrap), rose tteokbokki, steamed egg souffle with cheese, spam and kimchi fried rice, station noodles (beef broth, veggies), and strawberry bingsoo. My favorite of the night was the rose tteokbokki. The tteokbokki was perfectly chewy and I enjoyed the flavor of the sauce. The popcorn chicken was also good and paired well with the sauce it came with. The bossam was on the dry side and the seafood pancake was pretty standard. The fries were good but wouldn't pay $10 for a basket of fries if we came back next time. The corn cheese was also good but the plate was small. Solid spot if you're craving Korean comfort food. The fried chicken is so crispy on the outside, ultra soft and juicy on the inside, the fries are simple but well-seasoned you just can't stop eating them. The 오뱅이 (sea snail and squid muchim) has a bold sweet-spicy kick with chewy noodles and fresh veggies, definitely flavorful with some heat! Portions are generous! This place was packed and parking was hard to find. We were sat at the back corner and it was very loud. The servers kept passing by our table and going to other tables even when we notified them we needed a server. I started with the Screwkiss Cocktail and my guy had the Melona Cocktail. Considering they had whole popsicles in them, it wasn't surprising they were on the sweeter side. However, mine took forever and a half to melt; I even had to use a spoon to try and mash it faster. Fun drink, but wouldn't get it again. The complimentary bean sprout soup was light and refreshing. We started with the Stir-Fried Chicken Gizzards. It was much more rough/tough than expected. It was my first time having it and I liked the flavor, but the texture was mehh. My guy said he's always had gizzards that were softer and preferred it like that. The Beef Brisket with Mung Bean Sprout was really good! My favorite dish for sure! It was perfectly cooked and flavored and definitely a 5/5 for me. I got a side of Glass Noodles to eat with it, but I didn't like these noodles. Glass noodles are one of my fave noodles normally. Our party of 6 came over to celebrate a friend's graduation and it was packed on a Friday night around 9 pm. We got seated in around 15 minutes and they had a variety of items to choose from from appetizers to noodles and main entrees of meats and tteokbokki. Everything came out almost at one time and the spread of everything was delicious. Mac & Corn Cheese - I've had corn cheese before but with the macaroni noodles in it was a great addition. Cheesy, hot and a classic appetizer item. Chicken Gizzard - Not my favorite from the items we ordered. It was a bit too tough and chewy for my preference. Seafood Pancake - One of my favorites from the night. It was crispy and piping hot loaded with ingredients from squid, shrimp, carrots, peppers that all came together. It was the best batter to ingredient ratio and tasted so good with the sauce. Rose Tteokbokki - The other favorite dish that we got. What stood out the most about this dish was the rich, creamy tomato sauce that wasn't too spicy but still packed so much flavor. Filled with rice cakes, noodles, sausage and other things that were cooked well and soaked in the sauce. Bossam - A classic item and it came out a decent portion. The meat made into the ssam with the lettuce, kimchi and radish were a solid combination. From the pub-like interior from the decor and the friendly service with us getting drinks and some accommodations for the dishes, it was an amazing place for Korean pub food and for celebrating. read more

I was actually visiting Chicago and my friend had taken me here for an early dinner! We walked in at around 6pm and immediately were seated (we were a party of 4). What I loved was that there's a button on the side of the table that you can press and call your server whenever you are ready - I love convenience. Our server was quick and the interior of the restaurant was actually so pretty, they still also had Christmas decorations up which was cute haha. Here's what we ordered: - Korean fried rice: Can't go wrong, loved the spice on this. - Corn cheese: the cheese pull was amazing - Spicy BBQ pork w/ mozzarella cheese: Pork was juicy, spicy, & sweet. I tried the stir fried squid with hand cut noodles. All the seafood tasted fresh and the flavors and textures blended well. It wasn't too spicy and the squid complemented the crunchy textures of the dish. Besides the squid, I think my favorite part of the dish were the hand cut noodles. We were supposed to come with friends but the timing didn't work so it was just two of us. I feel like each dish could feed 2-3 people, which makes sense because it's for socializing and drinking. Market chicken - deep fried whole chicken. The server ripped the chicken into small pieces at our table. There's a side of salt and pepper if you need more flavor. The dark meat parts were juicy but the breast meat was more dry. The skin was very crispy. Bossam - lots of flavor options to layer. I do feel the ratio of the items are a bit off. Like not quite enough garlic, Napa or lettuce for each slice of pork belly. The thin sheets of radish weren't super pickled but it seems homemade. I think the menu mentioned perilla leaves but we never got any. Sea snail, squid, muchim - was my favorite. They're generous with the squid and sea snail. The muchim is seasoned vegetables and there's lots of it, making it a refreshing and healthy dish. There's also noodles. It's a bit difficult to mix together since the noodles clumped a bit but the flavor from the muchim did coat everything. Even the squid had flavor after mixing. Such good Korean food! We came here on a Wednesday night and it was still pretty full, I can only imagine what a weekend rush would be like. There were 2-3 waiters, they have bells you can ring when you need something and the waiters are really quick at attending to you. We got the spam and kimchi friend rice, tteokbokki, and the stir fried squid with noodles. We didn't like the fried rice, there wasn't much flavor to it. Really really solid Korean food. This is probably one of my favorite Korean spots in the suburbs. The restaurant is in a strip shopping center with other stores. There's plenty of tables in the restaurant to seat a small party. We came on a Tuesday at 5:45 pm and the restaurant quickly filled up by 6:30 pm. My friends and I shared the rose tokbokki, the seafood jampong, and the fried chicken. Everything tasted superb. The chicken was perfectly seasoned with crispy skin and tender meat. The jampong came with generous portions of seafood and noodles. The soup had a Smokey flavor and was full of depth. The rose tokbokki reminded me of Indian butter chicken. Inside the dish there were glass noodles, sausages, bacon, and rice cakes. The rice is free of charge which is a nice perk, since a lot of places usually charge you $1 for it. The restaurant seemed popular among Asians. Different than your typical Korean restaurant that serves bibimbop and bulgogi dishes, this place feature Korean comfort food and has some unusual options, sea nail and octopus muchim for example. We ordered their army stew and steamed dumplings for the kid. For what it is, I would say they were both pricey. The army stew was once quite popular in Asia, which really is just cheap meats and instant noodles boiled in kimchi soup. The portion was good but the whole thing was overpriced ($27). I love coming back to this place! Their seafood pancake and fried chicken is just insanely amazingly delicious. I have taken my family here multiple times and this is literally my to go dinner place whenever I'm in the suburb with my partner. The price is super reasonable, the fried chicken skin is super crispy and batter isn't too thick. The seafood pancake is loaded with flavors and a ton of seafood. They do not skimp at all! I was really excited until we walked in and was met with a strong strange smell of cleaning product/bathroom/wet mop. It was odd because I was expecting aromas of delicious Korean food. It is such a great place to gather it's easy to overlook the unpleasant smell. We spent two hours in the Big Karaoke Room. The maximum number of people for the Big room is 16 people. We had 15 people and were quite comfortable. The staff members serving us were super helpful, attentive, and friendly catering to our large group. The karaoke equipment took a minute to figure out and navigate for a non Korean-reading/speaking non-Korean. There was a youtube option to pull up songs, but the host said since their internet was spotty, using the traditional Karaoke tablet was recommended-- but this option takes a minute to figure out how to use their catalog system of songs. Also, the tablet to select songs is not bluetooth so I had to remember to aim the tablet at the machine to make a selection like a remote control. Once we figured everything out, it was a blast singing popular songs together! *Just a side note, we had some kids with us, most songs seemed to be the originals (not edited/radio version) Considering it being a pub, it probably isn't meant for kids---however, we still felt comfortable bringing the kids and the family had a great time together! We ordered a few Korean Style Market Chickens, Steamed & Fried Dumplings, Bulgolgi, Seafood Pancakes, Bossam, sweet potato and truffle fries, and popcorn chicken. We come by Niles at least once a year when we are in town but I don't remember coming across this restaurant. I was looking for Korean food with good reviews, so decided to meet here with friends. We ordered just two items, I wish I can order every item on the menu. We got the snail squid moochim. It was refreshing and delightful. I really liked the crunch from the cabbage, onions, and the addition of perilla leaves. The seasoning was slightly spicy and squid and snail proteins were a good combination to the veggies. I do think the chewy noodle ratio was small compared to the rest of the entree ingredients. The portion was huge. My hubby ordered the spicy pork with cheese. We ordered popcorn chicken, sweet soy chicken with peanut, kimchi fried rice, Bossam and rice cakes and sausages. Nothing too adventurous or spicy but all brought out right away and delicious. Very generous portions too. I will order the Korean market style chicken next time -- a whole fried chicken that they break apart into pieces in front of you. This place got crowded and loud within minutes. This was a fun intro to K pub and pocha (pojangmacha - street food). We used the call button to get the check and they brought it straightaway. They have karaoke booths here--another fun option to try at another visit. New Village Gastro Pub was listed on Yelp's Top 100 Restaurants in the US in 2024. read more
