We decided to give Haewadall another shot and it has turned a new leaf. The jokbal was soft and tender and freshly made; good quality. The bossam was also soft and naturally sweet; albeit not as naturally sweet nor as tender as the first year it opened (I remember wanting to eat the bossam as is without sauces). It did have a slight pig smell but not repulsive at all. I would definitely go back and order both dishes again. It seems like it's starting to build back up the older Korean clientele (which are the best judges/most critical). The side dishes were pretty good. Service was also good.

My mom was craving soondubu so we swung by Haewadall. She got the soondubu and I decided to try the ttuk bulgogi, a stew compromised of mushrooms, beef and glass noodles. Both stews hit the spot, especially on a cold, blustery day. Service was fast, side dishes replenished upon request, and the space was clean and a notch above hole in the wall. Seemed like a local favorite as well as there were many other Korean diners that came in for dinner service.

Food was really good. We went in around 8pm for late dinner on Friday. It was bit empty. We had bossam and brisket salad. Food came out pretty fast and it tasted good.

Pretty authentic Korean food. We tried the Pork on the bone soup with potatoes and spicy pork feet. Both dishes are delicious and definitely will come back!

Haewadall is one of my family's go to spots whenever we're visiting Chicago. They have a wide array of dishes and every single entree we've tried has been amazing. If you're a fan of pork belly, I'd suggest giving the bossam a try (one of my personal favorites). It's a wrap using salted cabbage, boiled pork belly, and various toppings, such as seasoned oysters, which makes it a unique combination of flavors in each bite. Their food tastes authentic and is a hit even with my parents so be sure to give it a try when you're craving Korean food.

Food was good Service was decent good Only negative remark from me is that they charge $1 for each to go container I understand it's extra cost but $1 each is steep

Found beside the strip mall close to my favorite Korean Salon.Yangmi.. When you step in you will hear the loud chatter of young and old Koreans so you will know for sure that this place is good.. We had a very energetic male server who really took great care of us.. Even showed us that the radish kimchi will taste better mixed with rice.. I loved the atmosphere and was excired for our orders.. Seafood Pancake was crunchy on the edges and flvor was good.. Bossam was so tender.. you can taste the flavor when it was boiled.. especially when you make ssam with fresh garlic.. SO YUMMY!!! Yukgaejang.. so far the best from all the korean restaurants that i have eaten.. just enough spice but the flavor is there... We were not anle to get a picture of the Galbi but it was soooo good and tender.. Highly recommend and will keep coming back to try the other dishes

Haewadall offers some rarer dishes that I wasn't able to fully appreciate. However, my wife really liked them. I just do not enjoy organs yet. The variety in the side dishes here was very appreciated. Note that a lot of their dishes are huge so it's best to come here with a larger group.

Maybe I had high expectations from reading the great reviews but I wasn't very impressed by the food here. Sure, it tasted good and I'm glad I tried it once, but I wouldn't come back. Growing up in a Korean household may have set the bar too high. The best-tasting dish I got was probably their kimchi (which is free) or their seafood pancake (an appetizer).

My mom raves about this restaurant and how their Ahgujjim (steamed monkfish & bean sprouts) is so delicious. I've been wanting to try this place out ever since my mom raved about it. Finally, I was able to give this place a try. My mom and I ordered of course the Ahgujjim and let me tell you.. it's HUGE!! and absolutely delicious. They fried the monkfish and pour the delicious spicy sauce over it. The sauce was perfect. Not too sweet nor too spicy. Just perfect. Let me tell you, just writing this is making my mouth water. Their side banchan (dish) was delicious as well especially the kimchi. The kimchi was definitely a rice killer, if you know what I mean. Definitely will come back. Covid 19 precaution: they have blinds that separate the tables only on the side tables where the bench is which was great for privacy feel. You don't need to call to make reservation before coming, it's first come first serve (walk-in).

This is definitely one of my favorite Korean restaurant in IL! The service is always good here and I love that they have call buttons so it makes it easier to communicate with their servers. Their napkin dispensers are attached to the wall so it's shared in between tables if you're sitting close to a wall. If you're having a soju type of night, you need to order their bossam or jokbal. Both of the entrees are always so juicy and flavorful! You will not be disappointed. It's a pretty big serving so you can share it with 2-3 people. Their spicy army stew is also delicious! There's a ton of meat in the stew and it comes with melted cheese on top of the stew. The spicy stew has hotdogs, spam, kimchi, ramen, and veggies. I always order their steamed egg whenever I'm here because it's so good with rice. You definitely have to try it here! They charge $1 for take out boxes so I always try to eat everything when I'm here. :) No leftovers!

I hate to give such negative review during Covid-19 times when small businesses are impacted but I need people to know that their food tasted has changed so much. Once our beloved Korean food when they originally located on Dempster. Tho not our most fave after they moved to Milwaukee location, it was still a place I would crave for at times. We ordered 3 dishes during the month of June 2020 for a takeout. It was so disappointing. It's out of the way from my place but I've been looking forward to a delicious meal. Our family of 4 all agreed that the chef must've changed because it does not taste the same as before. Tonkatsu- from the get go, the color of the Katsu was different. It was very yellow and light in color. It was not light brown, like how it should be. They must've added extra curry powder because it had too much of curry flavor. Nothing like a typical Korean ton Katsu. Gul Bossam- our signature dish from Haewadall. What happened? It was horrible! The kimchi that comes with bossam, which is the best part in my opinion, has completely changed. It was extra salty, like I'm tasting marinated only in salt. It's definitely too small in portion for the price. Ahgujjim- once again portion too small compared to the price. It's also another must order dish but very disappointing. There were only a few pieces of meat. Instead of it being flavorful, it was only spicy. It is not how it used to be. This will be our last meal at Haewadall and won't return. It's too bad we have to part our ways this way but good luck!

I love when the sides keep coming and actually taste fresh, and these definitely did. The grill experience was the highlight. Watching the marinated beef sizzle over the charcoal while it caramelized and crisped at the edges? Elite. The meat was tender, juicy, and packed with flavor -- especially dipped into the sesame oil sauce or that savory soy-based sauce with scallions. Every bite wrapped in lettuce with garlic and sauce was chef's kiss. And the yukhoe (beef tartare) was beautifully presented -- layered with avocado, topped with a glossy egg yolk and garlic slices. It was fresh, rich, and buttery with just the right amount of seasoning. Mixing it all together made it creamy and flavorful without being overpowering. Overall, Jin Soo delivers on quality meat, great sides, and that interactive KBBQ vibe that makes the meal feel like an experience. The meat was good. Especially the non-marinated beef with the special matcha salt. NOT AYCE. Banchan (side dishes) were good and authentic. I would come again but not necessarily a WOW I MUST come again. If that makes sense. Decent KBBQ joint.

The appetizers were a highlight, unique and bursting with flavor from a perfect spice blend. Not too spicy at all, just the right amount of kick to keep things exciting. The mains delivered that classic tangy, savory twist I love in Korean BBQ. The beef and pork came sliced super thin and tender, melting in your mouth. The grill was a touch oilier than I'm used to (probably to keep the meat from sticking), but it bother me slightly although most people would probably enjoy it. We didn't try any food since we came from a late dinner but I could see how it would add to the ambience. Dropped a star due to confusion/miscommunication with staff when we were directed to our room. We were a group of 10 that booked a small room but were seated in the large room. Since we were celebrating a birthday, we didn't think anything of it. When we went to pay, we realized that it was not a complimentary upgrade and were charged for the large room ($20 more per hr). Otherwise this was very spicy (which I liked) and a big portion - bossam: my favorite dish.
