I'm so incredibly impressed with his attention to detail and efforts to really get to the root cause of what was wrong. He's careful to take time with each patient and really listen to what is going on. Then he carefully decides the action plan, carefully selects the types of tests he needs to run to identify the root of the problem and utilizes the information to get his patients well from the inside out. You can tell he genuinely cares about his patients and deep down he IS genuinely a good person. So many other GI doctors just want to prescribe their patients a bunch of medications to cover up the problems. Dr Mark really wants to get you better! And the staff is always friendly and helpful. Extremely happy with the results…read more I was diagnosed with a Hiatal Hernia and started interviewing surgeons from Stanford, Sutter/PAMF, UCSF, and a couple of private doctors as well as checked local media for recommendations. I had read up on what procedures are available / watched the YouTube videos as well as the Doctors webpage so I had some idea of what I was in for. There are set protocols for further analysis of hiatal hernias after the usual endoscopy, esophagram/barium swallow but didn't make sense for my situation and scheduling procedures would have required a few months to get in. Luckily, Dr Zare reviewed the tests and my symptoms and knew what was needed and did not require further tests and was able to schedule me shortly after my first visit. Megan and staff provided fast, competent support and very quickly I was in for my laparoscopic paraesophageal surgery. All the other surgeons were more interested in following the protocol with additional tests that would have not provided any additional benefit (based on published clinical studies). Perhaps if they had reviewed more thoroughly my test results, they may have not warranted the additional motility tests. The surgery went as expected and only a partial toupet was performed that was very much appreciated based on latest surgical result data from my research. It is a painful procedure as incisions are made in the abs etc but appropriate meds made it a lot easier then having a full incision vs robotic. Trust is very important for me, as surgeons have to be able to make decisions in-the-moment and based on my discussions with Dr Zare and Megan, I felt very comfortable that I had made the right choices. Thank you Dr Zare and appreciate your help! I am symptom free and sleeping without worrying about reflux entering my lungs and starting to get back to sports/eating and enjoying life again!

The lady that answered the phone for Doctor Dam was TYLER and she was the least helpful rudest receptionist I have ever dealt with at any doctors office in my 50+ years. This is pathetic and dumbfounding to me that TYLER told me that her office policy from Doctor Dam is that she requires a referral regardless that I have Cadillac PPO insurance. This is not what I am being told by Blue Shield so, I am reporting Doctor Dam to Blue Shield that she is in breach of her contract regarding the service, terms and conditions of her accepting Blue Shield customers and is overriding their policies with her own. Customer NO service is what this is and unsettling to me!

Now my second colonoscopy was performed at the Sutter Health Surgery Center in Modesto on July 17, 2024. The Hospital's staff and the wonderful Dr. Vida Chen, a Gastroenterologist are "ALL SUPERIOR / FIVE STARS RATING" members of the medical field!! My wife and I NEVER in our 65 years of existence, ever met such a loving, caring, keen listeners, attentive, accommodating Doctor, or Hospital staff members ever before!! It was like we entered the fictional "Leave It To Beaver" Hospital zone, where EVERYONE is so sweet, and caring, something we NEVER experienced in the Bay Area or at any Peninsula Hospitals! The first 16 oz dose of the Suprep mixture, and the following two 16 oz doses of cold water made me so nausea! The second go around at 4 am the following morning wasn't as bad, and my stomach calmed down by the time I had to head to the Sutter Health Surgery Center.
