I came here with family and I ordered Flautas with Rice and Beans. They gave a lot of food. Even though I was hungry, I couldn't finish everything. They gave 4 flautas with sour cream and avocado on top. They also gave a lot of rice and beans. They also gave complimentary chips and salsa. Service was good. Went there for the first time tonight. The food was fantastic, as was the service. Other local Mexican restaurants have been disappointing lately so this was a pleasant surprise. Chips and salsa to start were good, guacamole appetizer was excellent (and made table side so you know its fresh, and the entrees were very good. The downside is the price. $70 before tax and tip for 5 people doesn't sound bad until you break it down. 3 kids meals, an appetizer, and 2 entrees. Drinks are bottled sodas (8 oz.) so no refills. How hard would it be to put in a fountain soda machine?? So if you want some good Mexican food and don't mind paying through the nose for it while washing it down with tap water then this is the place for you!! We love coming here. The food is great and the portions are huge. The menu is good as well, many things to try and we have not been disappointed. The desert menu is amazing but I have only been able to order desert once because we are typically too stuffed for dessert. BYOB and they bring you out an ice bucket and open the beers for you. I don't know what most of these people are thinking. If you enjoy gross enchiladas drowned in mediocre sauce that are not very good, at an absurd price, then this is the place for you. I can make enchiladas 10 x the quality at 10% the cost. This place has Mexican Catholic iconography everywhere, so if making terrible food at rip-off prices is a mortal sin, they are in real trouble! What most epitomizes this muy mal restaurant is when they brought out the gross enchiladas cold, and then microwaved it to heat it up. Also, unique for any Mexican restaurant I have ever heard of, they charge if you want more chips and salsa, and whether you are a party of 1, 2, or 5, every table only gets one complimentary serving(Tostitos chips are better than these) There's another Mexican restaurant next door called Taco Bell. Go there. You will pay a small fraction of the price and the food will be of better quality. read more

This place can be deceiving if you don't know the area very well. It's on highway and can be confused for just another restaurant and let me tell you if far from your every day Mexican food. The food here is Very Fresh, as a cook you can always tell when food is freshly made or pre made and this is all fresh and made too order. The salsa is was good and the guacamole was just amazing! And made to order by your server which is a nice touch as you can choose to have it spicy or mild. Enchiladas with Chicken is what I had and it was the best ones I have had from any Mexican restaurants I have visited. It was a while ago when I went here. The place was very busy. Our server was horrible. We had a hard time getting someone to take our order or get us refills. What really bothered me was the food. I ordered fajitas. I think they normally put alcohol on it and serve it flaming. I saw them trying to light mine and they couldnt. All i could taste on my fajitas was alcohol. My wife, my two kids and I moved to Howell, NJ in June and this was one of the first restaurants we took a stab at. Having lived in Arizona the past 7 years surrounded by top of the line Mexican food, we went into this place with low expectations never thinking a place off Route 9 would know what they were doing. THIS PLACE IS LITERALLY THE BEST MEXICAN FOOD I'VE EVER HAD! Their soft shell corn tacos are incredible. You choose the filling (steak, beef, chicken etc...) and they top it with fresh cilantro and onions. Then you select your sauce (mild, medium, hot etc...). I always get medium. It is a creamy Chipotle sauce with no dairy in it for people allergic like me and it tastes amazing. Three tacos and rice and beans is $13 and its incredible. The beans are rice are flawless. They bring you free chips and salsa when you sit down and they never let that basket run empty of chips. It is BYOB which is great. We always bring that Jose Cuervo pre mixed margarita and they actually bring you margarita glasses filled with ice. I can't believe that after 7 years living about 4 hours north of the Mexican border, we find the best Mexican food we've ever had in Central Jersey. Extremely disappointed with the staff. We brought a large bottle of tequila and ordered a total of 6 margaritas throughout dinner. They kept taking the tequila in the back to make the drinks and by the end of dinner the entire bottle of tequila was completely gone. The restaurant was almost completely empty, yet they wanted to sit us on top of the next table, next to the window with no shade down so we can bake in the sun? So we asked to be seated in the back, with you know, privacy. The chips were just chips with salsa. After we placed our order, we never saw our server again, never asked if we needed anything. We did not have a good experience We ordered the ceviche and table side guacamole which were both very good could have used more lime. 5 minutes later they came out with our entrees. They wanted to take our ceviche which we still hadn't finished. There wasn't enough room on the table for all the plates. Told the waiter and he blamed it on the cook. My boyfriend and I love Mexican Food! Juanito's is authentic and their menu offers a unique selection compared to most Mexican restaurants. Firstly, the staff is great, it's like they can read you mind and ask if you would like something before you even have to ask for it. The place is really cute too, easy to get to right off of rt9 south. We always order the guacamole, they make fresh right in front of you! It's $8 which is a little high but it's totally worth it! What's different is they offer a lot of seafood and fish options on their menu. This time I ordered a burrito that had shrimp, lobster, scallops, zucchini, and spinach in it, with cheese and lobster cream sauce. It was soo delicious! I will be getting it again. My boyfriend had a burrito that had steak, beef, and chicken, peppers, and onions in it. I had a bite and his was tasty too! They also have a good selection of yummy sauces for your meal, ranging from mild to Hot. The burritos are huge! Both of us were only able to finish half, and bring the rest home. Juanito's is our favorite Mexican place in this area. Food and service is always TOP NOTCH. True, they dont serve liquor, but that's actually a PLUS because you can bring your own and save lots of $$$. I'd much rather go to a BYOB place and bring my own beer or wine. They'll start you off with chips and salsa, and their salsa is great! Get the enchiladas with Chipotle sauce! You'll never go away hungry, portions are extra-large! We stopped at Juanitos before the dinner crowd arrived. It wasn't busy at all. Like most Mexican restaurants we were greeted with chips and salsa. Salsa wasn't spicy so I was happy. I looked over the children's menu first since I had my daughter with me. There was a large selection for her. They had pasta, hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken fingers and of course tacos. She chose the beef tacos. I decided on the special which was a chimichangas stuffed with shrimp, lobster, scallops, spinach and diced tomatoes top with lobster sauce. As we waited for our meals we were never offered refills on our drinks or more chips. My daughters tacos didn't have any flavor to them and had grease pour out when she tried to eat them. She would only eat her fries. My meal did taste like it was burnt. The seafood was overcooked. The lobster sauce was very flavorful and did help my meal. This restaurant does have a large selection and the portion sizes were good. I think it is a tad pricey for Mexican. I probably will not go back read more

Love their food. I go for the corn items. We go here a lot for the Mexican food. As soon as you sit down they give you a bowl of nachos & salsa. They are generous with the food and the prices are fair. The only issue I have is the bathrooms need to be cleaned better and they can use a fresh coat of paint. The food is never hot when we pick up, there are items missing from the garnishment quite often, the portions are much smaller than the in dining. Love this place. I only gave it 4 stars because I wish they would install fountain soda. I dislike sitting down to eat good food and pay $$$ for dinner to have a can of soda or bottle of Snapple plunked on my table. That being said...the food is really really good.
