This place is very good. A bit overpriced but the food is very tasty. I had the plata Mexicana which is a spicy plate with filet, shrimp, sautéed peppers and onions, in a spicy sauce. It was a lot of food but I managed to eat most of it. It was also served with rice and beans. I'm surprised that this place is not busier but I ate at lunchtime so I'm not sure how dinner is. The food was OK. It did not taste authentic Mexican it tasted like the Tex-Mex American adapted version of Mexican. They didn't have some of my favorite traditional dishes on the menu like tripe, but they did have salmon as a special which I thought was surprising. I've never seen any other Mexican place serve salmon. I don't think salmon is readily available in Mexico. That's part of why I think it's more of an American-Mexican restaurant that caters to the Americans. The prices were more expensive than anywhere else I've gone. I usually pay $10-12 on enchiladas depending on how tiny the restaurant is, but here the same dish was $15. They didn't even have chorizo enchiladas. What Mexican restaurant only serves beef and chicken enchiladas??? All other dishes were $20+ (which is honestly really expensive. My friend paid $22 for shrimp fajitas and only got 6 measly shrimp. It was a ripoff to say the least). Maybe this is a good staple for the area. Maybe people don't really know real Mexican food and they want Tex-Mex Americanized food. I will be going back to the Trenton area to get the real Mexican food like tripe tacos and menudo. This place did not impress me. read more

Let me start off with saying I am Mexican which makes me a little bias to "authentic Mexican restaurants". However, when walking into a Mexican restaurant I look at the atmosphere and how welcoming it is. This restaurant is nicely decorated. A party for a christening was going on on one side of the restaurant. Needless to say the party took priority over every one else. We weren't greeted at the door and we made our way to a free table. After about 5 mins someone came over to greet us, salsa and chips were brought out and the menus. I always look for authentic Mexican drinks not the sodas but the fresh waters made in Mexico; there were none on the menu. The food on the menu was catered more to its American clientele. After about 20 minutes and 2 bowls of chips the food came out.The food was good for what was offered. The flautas were crispy and topped with just the right amount of sour cream and lettuce. I would have preferred for the salsa to be spicy. The burrito my partner had was stuffed and met all of his requirements for the perfect burrito. The rice was cooked nicely and the beans didn't taste fresh. Overall the food was good. The service was slow but like I said there was a party on the other side so the kitchen was busy. read more

I 1st came here 12 years ago when I just moved to Howell and I hated it! I never had a desire to return until someone recently told me how good it was. I was skeptical but too lazy to go to freehold where there are several excellent Mexican restaurants. I should have stuck to my original inclinations. We started with jalapeño poppers...how can you mess that up? Juanito did just that by over frying them & smothering them in a chipotle cream sauce. Sonic has better ones. Then I had the seafood enchiladas which would have been ok if not for being smothered in more overly spicy cream sauce. There was so much sauce that it also covered my rice and beans. My husband had the chicken enchiladas Verde which was also covered in a bland sauce. See a pattern here? Everything is swimming in terrible sauce. I kept hearing Gordon Ramsey screaming in my head. The salsa and chips were good and the waiter was very nice but I will NEVER go back! The people who gave this place good reviews probably rarely ventured out of Howell and most likely frequent chains like Applebee's and Chile's. read more

Went recently and this is my third time. Decent Mexican restaurant with appropriate decorations, colors for this type of food genre. Please understand that this is not an upscale place or NYC type Mexican establishment. In short, this is not Rick Bayless type creative Mexican. That's not a knock, but merely to say that it is a consistently positive experience that cooks a not overly complicated good, Mexican food. It almost reminds me of the JoseTejas restaurant in Clifton or it might be Fairfield. It can be your local, go to Mexican place due to it's good prices and consistency. Also, if you were to get bored with the menu offerings, they do have some nice specials daily. The staff is very friendly and extremely well prepared and efficient. They are easy to deal with and very accommodating. This extends to the gentleman that greets you at the door that I get the feeling is a manager not a mere host. In any event the guacamole which they make at the table is a nice effect and it happens to be very tasty. I had the filet mignon special and the meat was a bit tough, but overall all things that we had were good.My guest had the tequila chicken and it was definitely flavorful. Overall, the price point is average, the food is above average, service consistently good. One thing might be to play Mexican type music to set an overall tone for this food genre.If they are already, it cannot be heard. A good, local go-to Mexican place that is casual and BYOB. And one small thing, it would be nice if they finally removed that white plastic folding table that is leaning against the glass. You can see it from the outside when you pass on Rt. 9 and it has been there for months. It makes the restaurant look dingy and does not add to the ambiance. We have been coming here for the past 10 years during the week, weekends, for birthdays etc and food is always great! I Always get the Quesadilla de mi Barrio, always love it! On our most recent trip my boyfriend had the Pork Burrito and it was FULL of meat and SO GOOD, definitely getting that next time! Love their salsa, it always tastes fresh. Price is awesome for what you get, I dont know what people are talking about, long wait? they're MAKING your food, its not a microwaveable meal pepple. We have yet to find a better Mexican restaurant in Monmouth County. They've had pretty much the same staff for the last 10 years as well so that goes to show you something. Well let's get started on the greeting and friendliness, very welcoming and greet you right away and you're usually sat within seconds of being there. Before I get started on the food, quick write on the waiter. In the blink of an eye my meal was in front of me. The guacamole was absolute amazing, made fresh right in front of you. Probably the best, or at least close to it, Mexican food I have had. Very authentic and very tasty. A little pricey but not entirely unreasonable. I have been here 5 or 6 times now and never had a bad meal. Most recently, I had a chicken enchilada as an appetizer with the hottest sauce available. Delicious and the sauce was very unique. Also, we all shared the fresh-made guacamole with jalapenos, which was delicious. This was a bit overpriced ($7) for the amount we received. Still good. Main course was Juanito's Loco Burrito, which had EVERYTHING inside. Amazing. Served with great black beans and Spanish rice. For desert, my friends got fried ice cream and I had the banana desert. It was raining heavily so we were in the mood for Mexican food. Looked up on Yelp and decided to try this place. It was a good decision. Upon being seated, the server came and promptly opened our wine bottle. They give you a basket of tortilla chips and salsa. We tried the Appetizer special Tostadas, the server was nice and he replaced the chicken with lots of vegetables as per our request. It was delicious and filling. We did have to remind him of giving us water as he forgot. It was fairly busy and he was serving many tables. We ordered the Vegetable Burrito and Enchilada platter and told him we wanted to share. He said they will charge $3 for sharing, which was fine with us and glad we shared as it was a lot of food. The fried ice cream dessert was premade it seemed like so it was just ok. Honestly this was some of the worst Mexican we ever had. We've been to many "authentic" Mexican restaurants and this one just doesn't have it. Chimichangas are lightly fried, even says so on the menu. But when you drench everything in some type of weird sauce, it doesn't matter what you fry. Everything becomes soggy and gross. Great, authentic Mexican food and convenient location. We have been looking for good Mexican food for years in New Jersey and haven't been able to find it until we tried Juanito's! They have a convenient take out pick up area and are always very friendly and efficient. We order take out about once a week and they always get our order correct and prepared quickly. The enchiladas are the best and the rice and beans are the best I've ever had from a restaurant. The food here is absolutely fantastic, and I love how the sodas come in the glass bottles rather than the boring serving it in a glass method. The guacamole is fresh and delicious and they make it right at the table! My only complaint is that, when I went there on Cinco De Mayo, they were clearly not equipped to handle such a large amount of people. Went out to eat with my girlfriend. Wanted to catch up on things we are both busy with work, family, kids etc... Great family atmosphere not loud but calm. The waiter was distantly attentive. Meaning he allowed us to do our " private girl-talk" , but approached when he knew we wanted something. Most importantly, the food was delicious. I ordered the Chicken Chimichanga with refried beans and rice. The portion was generous and reheated very well in the microwave, the next day at work. WIll definitely return. read more
