Yo I feel like I'm in a looney hole here. There's no way this is what is considered quality Mexican food in New Mexico. I've had better Mexican food in South Carolina dog don't go here. Look at the tacos and tell me that this food seems it. The ground beef was very crumbly. They don't double shell. They food came out fine. And the tables were kept clean enough. It's not like it's inedible but considering the quality of Mexican food I had in New Mexico and how highly praised this location is, I would not waste my time here again. read more

We saw this on a phone search, after visiting Si Senor's the previous night (which was very good). First, Cactus Cafe was hard to find, because it's in a food court in a mall and doesn't have a sign outside. So, we did find it. Personally, I thought the food was very average and overpriced (though it appeared that there was a lady cooking in the back). I got a $10 chimichanga, and after putting sour cream on it, I realized that there was no way I could cut it with the limp plastic fork and spoon provided. So, I picked it up and ended up using about 10 of the skimpy napkins to clean the sour cream out of my beard and mustache. It came with some typical dry, orange-colored rice, and the beans were inside with some (not much) finely ground beef. I ordered iced tea, and it tasted like it had been sitting around for a week. Of course, there was no lemon--why would you have lemon in iced tea? My friends liked their food better than I did, so I may just be picky. If you like mall ambiance and fast-food taste, this place may be for you. For me, I'll revisit Si Senor the next time I'm in Alamagordo. read more

As a local this has been a staple my whole life. This is my fast food taco place. I don't go to Taco Bell or Del Taco ... ever. This is where I go. Soft chicken tacos is my go to. Their Indian fry bread is always treat. Dairy free, lactose free ice cream! I love their green chile topping that comes with almost all of their meals. The owner has always been nice. Maybe he was a little strict when I was a punk kid hanging out at the mall on a Friday night but I feel it's his restaurant and responsibility to his staff to not degraded by rude customers and I respect him for it. He rarely works so it' weird people complain about him and makes me wonder if the comments are true. His staff is always nice to me. read more

Over the past few weeks I have been in Alamogordo on temporary assignment. I have been trying as many places as possible. This little cafe has my vote for the best Mexican food in town. I had a stuffed sopapilla, which at other places was greasy and heavy. Here the sopapilla has thin layers, like a croissant and then they stuff that with all kinds of great things. They top it with a side of green chili. I have not understood the appeal of green chili till today. The mall looks like a ghost town, but trust me you want to go inside and feast at Juan's. Judging from the steady stream of customers I would guess this is not a secret to the locals. read more

I purchased a gift card from restaurant.com and the owner was rude and said he stopped honoring them a year ago. We were hungry so we ate lunch there. The food was okay. The prices are a bit high. I had the cheese enchiladas which hardly had any cheese in them. The red sauce was tasty for the enchiladas. My friend got the beef flautas which were extra crunchy and needed more meat. Also, no dipping sauce for the flautas. The lady who took our order was pleasant! This was more like a fast food place than a restaurant. read more

This place is simply yummy! The food tastes authentic and has a lot of flavor. I eat here if I'm at the mall around lunch time and enjoy it.

I had the Navajo bread taco, which was large and tasty, included extra green chile. I also had the apple stuffed sopapilla, which I would add some cinnamon and sugar and/or honey just to sweeten it up. Easy and accessible, even though it was busy for lunch the gentleman behind the counter was taking time to sweep, and clean the tables. For Alamogordo the Ma-all needs a bit more business, a few empty stores. Stop by and give them some business the food is worth it, skip TB and the other fast food joints. read more

The worst Mexican food. Only fresh part was the beans. Tiny shreds of lettuce in taco salad, No cheese. Chicken terrible, old, quac was old. What a poor representation of the delicious Mexican cuisine. Taco Bell is so much better. read more

Fast food Mexican in the mall. It's not bad food if you're in the mall, or in a rush, but there are definitely better options in the region.

Okay if you are really hungry but Chinex is a better option. The ice cream machine never seems to be working and the food is just okay. Best thing to order here is the sopaillas. Drizzle honey and sprinkle some powdered sugar. read more

Someone who grew up with old Mexican food and recipes all my live. I had really high hopes for my first time at this place. Only to be utterly disappointed in more ways than one. Can't really call it authentic Mexican food when they serve no carne asada which i thought was odd but ok. On top of that the burritos they serve are mediocre at "best" even though the tortilla tasted as if it was microwaved slapped inside was ground beef that was pretty greasy. Normally i would expect if you ask if you could put certain things in a burrito places do. Not this place, all sides and if you ask for cheese they will give you pretty much nacho cheese for a burrito The taquitos literally taste as if they microwaved or deep fried frozen ones from Costco. All the food is a bit over priced for the simplest of things ..... but what make's it worst is even the simplest order they get wrong. For anyone who has tried good Mexican food, this place is such a let down you are better off going to Taco Bell for Mexican food. That alone should say enough.
