Was craving a chicharron burrito so stopped in to grab for the road. Ordered 2 with red sauce, they came out fairly quick and piping hot. Opened one up down the road and the first thing you smell were the preservatives in the tortilla. First bite i notices a bland red chili with tons of seeds and chili skin which is very off putting and not to mention the chicharrones were crunchy? Seemed like they just dumped the bag in warm chili and hoped for the best. These were the worst attempt at a chicharron burrito ever. Waste of 20 bucks they were thrown at the next stop. read more

We checked out the reviews and went with the guidance of do not let the outside of the restaurant deter you from trying out their food. With that in mind, we verified that they do have beer and margaritas available unlike some of the local restaurants. The restaurant is not very fancy, but there is free parking, and so large that you will not have to wait for a seat. We were pleasantly greeted and quickly seated. We switched tables after we found that the table we sat at was a bit dirty. Our waiter was exceptionally attentive and eager to please. We quickly were served chips and dips and we ordered a side of guacamole to go with that and they were all very good. A quesadilla appetizer was fresh and we were offered both red and green sauces, which really accentuated their flavor. We did find the tapwater flavor a little unpleasant, and there were no bottled water options available. The beer and margaritas help make up for that issue! The Chile Rellanos were very good and the Carnitas combo was very flavorful. The sopapillas were small, slightly over cooked/tough, and not flavorful. This is a very nice, typical Mexican restaurant. There are no surprises, and there are some Mexican specialties on the menu, including Menudo, and other items of the more traditional nature. La Hacienda felt like such a treat to me! I had been traveling all day to get to White Sands and was so hungry for something local instead of a chain joint. So, it's kinda a diamond in the rough. I walked in thought it looked a bit run down. The booths are showing some age and the tables could probably use some elbow grease. BUT the food was fast, tasty, and so inexpensive! I was really glad that I stuck it out. Server was super sweet and asked if she could get me setup with some chips and salsa while I looked over the menu. I was taken aback at the charge for it but can't start a Mexican meal without some chips and salsa. The chips were GOOD! Like fresh from the basket good. They are made in house. The salsa was good too. Very fresh with visible pieces of tomato-just how I like it. Had some heat but not overly powerful. I ordered a burrito and a side of guac as well and enjoyed both! If I make it back during my trip, I'll get the burrito smothered next time. It needed some sauce for sure. Very convenient-they have drive thru if you don't care to dine in, inexpensive, and big portions. I will likely go back before my trip ends. read more

None of our party of 4 enjoyed our meal here - I got the carne asada which came with rice, beans, guacamole, and some grilled onions. I also tried the peach margarita. The marg tasted like a quarter of a shot of tequila and syrup. The carne asada was OK but all of us agreed the beans & rice could use A LOT of work. They were just stale, honestly. Same with the chips & salsa for the table. The chips were clearly old & hard. Went through their drive-thru. I ordered the #12, cheese enchiladas plate, red. The worker who answered the window was very friendly. As soon as she handed me my food, I could smell it and it smelled sooo good. Their salsa is homemade and really good. Very mild, it does have cilantro in it so if you don't like cilantro, you're not going to like it. The enchiladas are really good and soft. Not too spicy, good flavor. The rice is soft, which is how I like it. The beans are also very good. The pricing is very good, this plate under $10. There were four of us stepped into the restaurant on Sunday afternoon. Once sat down, we waited around for about 15 minutes before the server finally stopped by to take our orders. Our server indicated the restaurant had no ice due to large amount of customers today. We went ahead and ordered bottle drinks; we placed our orders and waited for over half an hour. Later, two other parties came in and ordered their food. We were surprised to see them being served with ice drinks, to include margaritas. About forty minutes later, I was about to ask about the ice, when the party which came in about half an hour after us were being served with their food. In summary, we were there for an hour and forty minutes and we were never served. I couldn't help but got a feeling that we weren't welcomed here. We dined here after a long day of driving and a sunset in White Sands so we were looking for somewhere we wouldnt feel out of place feeling as grubby as we did. I have lived in Alamogordo for 2 years. I was starting to get a bit disappointed with the restaurants until I found this one. The food is probably the best Mexican I have ate in a long time. The best with the exception of my Mother and Aunts of course. Don't let the plain look of the restaurant fool you. I love huevos rancheros and these are the best around. Not spicy, just good. The tacos have really juicy ground beef making you enjoy taste. I love the food here. The cook(s) know how to do it right. I highly recommend this place. read more

I finally found an excellent restaurant in Alamogordo the place was medium-sized it was clean it had great murals on the walls the staff was friendly and right on top of things without being intrusive they weren't many people there because I went early and the service was immediate the Agave Margaritas were so tasty and of a good-sized they have specials on Mondays now to the best part they have breakfast all day things that I haven't seen since I was in Mexico I had the grilled chicken piccata with eggs and it came with hashbrowns tortillas and their own personal salsa that was just the right amount of heat for people like me who are sort of wimpy the grilled chicken was chicken breast shredded it was moist and flavorful and My Egg which I required over easy was perfect I can't wait to go there again read more

Do not waste your time going here. my family stopped here last Sunday. We came in and sat down. We waited and waited for someone to come give us menus. we could see the waitresses looking at us but no one came. Another couple came in about 10 minutes after us and were greated right away. We were about to walk out when a waitress finally came and apologized saying we snuck in and they didn't see us which was obviously untrue. A different waitress came up to us and made disrespectful comments on the football jerseys we were wearing and asked my husband if he forced us to be fans. We felt very uncomfortable and unwelcome. on top of that the salsa was pace picante sauce. the food was mediocre. But we were hungry as we had been traveling all day. We ate and then my husband tried to pay which then the waitress refused to take our payment because of the jersey he was wearing. A different waitress cashed us out finally and on our way out the door our waitress said she hope our team losses and stuck her tongue out at us. I'm disgusting by this behavior and will never return here. read more

If I could leave zero stars I would. This was the worst Mexican food I have ever ate in my entire 44 years on this planet. If it weren't for me being on the road for hours and ravenous and every other restaurant being closed on Sunday, I would not have eaten my food and walked out. The nachos appetizer had wilted lettuce, rotten avocado, plastic pale tomatoes, grey looking meat and flavorless white cheese with hard beans. Both meals were horrible. The only thing good was the tea. I'm from San Antonio Texas and realize New Mexican style food is different but this place was worse than the worst whole in the wall I've ever been to. We drove all over New Mexico and the food was pretty rough over all, except Santa Fe. read more

Both are just ok but they say the red is more spicy. I wish the chili was bigger and stuffed with something spicy and flavorful. The sauce tasted kind of can-like. Comes with beans and rice, which are good. SALSA The chips and salsa were below par. We had the salsa at Margo's so our standards are high. This salsa was too watery and weak. I had the chicken burrito that was stuffed with a great white cheese (might have been goat but not sure) and smoothered in Avacado. it was fantastic. Inside is a little generic and basic, with almost a cafeteria feel to it. But, they make up in the food. Service was nice and the prices were average. I like this place. It's pretty decent food and the prices are not too bad. For two people we usually spend around $20 not including tip. Definitely try their Tres Leche for dessert. My only complaint is they NEVER have horcata. The waitress even advised me to come on Tuesdays because that's when they have it. Rolled in there like suggested only to be told they didn't have any.
