Burger Exploits, East Texas Edition! So Brandon and I are on a quest to discover and digest the greatest burgers in the Lone Star State. Our quest is, shall we say, in the early stages. But we're on our way. LOL And this weekend we Austinites find ourselves in East Texas, so of course we had to hunt down (read: Google) lists of reliably tasty burgers in the local area. One of the named offerings was Jucy's in Longview, which also happened to be a super convenient one-mile drive from our hotel! As soon as we rolled into town, hungry and stiff-legged, we headed there! Brandon got his fave: a simple bacon cheeseburger with mayo. I got the cheeseburger sans bacon, but otherwise all-the-way. We were both absolutely delighted.  Keywords here: FRESH. JUICY. CLEAN. The patties at Jucy's are the stars of the show. The buns are fluffy and good. Solid! The veggies are absolutely high-quality. (They dice the onions, rather that slice them, which I prefer.)  But the standout part of the burger is the beef patty. It's so fresh, and so juicy, that you know you're eating quality. And they melt the cheese on the patty just right. A+ burger in my humble opinion Now my take, the above is pretty much on point. The patty was amazing. The bun fresh and soft. The bacon which was the big difference on mine was crisp and good. The employees were friendly and one lady even came and made sure our ketchup bottle was full! They have one of the touch screen drink machines that allow tons of options on drinks. Some TVs around playing various sports or in this case draft news. The fries were well seasoned and tasty. Shana liked them more then I did but they were really good. You order at the counter then they give you a paging device. You go get your food when it buzzes. You don't see this much anymore but were all the rage for a short time. They do have sandwiches, salads, and beans for some reason if you want options for food or sides. It's not soul burger level but it is close.

Well I use to love eating here when visiting Longview, but the restaurant was dirty. The floors needed to be swept, the tables were dirty and the booths were dirty as well. The young man taking our order was new. He did a good job with taking my order and getting it correct. Nobody welcomed us when we walked in. It's not like they were busy. They only had 3 other people in the restaurant. My order got overlooked. Several people who had big orders that cane in after me and ordered got there food before me. I was told he didn't realize my order was up. The hamburger was ok. I've had better and the onion rings were just ok. I was disappointed in my visit this time.

Really??!!!

This has to be one of the worst ran Jucy's Hamburger in East Texas. The majority of the time it is a surprise when you place an order on what you get. I ordered a Cowboy grilled chicken salad. It looks like whoever made it was mad at somebody, because my chicken was ripped apart instead of cut up. And, the avocados were basically rotten in multiple spots. Now I know they saw that, but still put it on my salad. Why?!! Then I guess the tomatoes were mad at everybody cuz they weren't nowhere to be seen on the salad at all. And of all things....how you going to give somebody a salad without any dressin. Come on now!! But I will take a little ownership for rushing because I was at work and needed to get back and didn't go through my order with a fine tooth comb.

Place was highly recommended. Not the best not the worst. Manager would not change the channel on one of the 6 TV's. There may be a limitation to only ESPN do not know. Burger was juicy see photo. Other than being over done it tasted good. The lettuce tomatoes and pickles were fresh. I would give more stars if the patty was juicy.

Idk about the food. I waited 20mins in line in the drive through behind a single car and ended up just leaving and calling it quits.

The El Bandito burger was pretty decent. Some classic American mixed with some Mexican twist.

Do not try their breakfast taquitos because you will become addicted! SO GOOD. Best breakfast in town in my opinion. Pancakes are great too.

2.5...i like the burgers, and love the beans. The chicken strips are no good, and the fries are a combination of soggy and burnt.

My husband challenged me to find somewhere new, and Yelp led us to Fat Boyzzz in Longview, TX. I'll be honest--I'm not usually a soul food fan, so I wasn't especially excited about trying it. But my husband had been craving some good soul food for a while, so we decided to give it a shot. The restaurant had excellent ratings and reviews, but I was still a little skeptical. When we arrived, the place was packed, which is usually a good sign. Thankfully, we were seated right away. Our waitress let us know upfront that there would be about a 30-minute wait for the food. Our first interaction with her was a little rough--she seemed stressed and was somewhat abrupt while taking our order. My husband was initially put off, but he was determined to get his soul food fix. Now, whenever I see grilled liver and onions with brown gravy on a menu, that's what I'm ordering. I'm a Luby's girl through and through, and until today, I would've said nobody does liver and onions better than Luby's. Fat Boyzzz changed my mind. The liver was sliced a little thinner and wasn't quite as tender, but the flavor more than made up for it. Every bite was absolutely delicious. And that's not even the best part. The mashed potatoes and brown gravy were phenomenal--rich, flavorful, and pure comfort food. My husband ordered the fried pork chops with mashed potatoes and cream gravy. The entire meal, all he could talk about was those mashed potatoes. Between bites, he'd keep saying, "These mashed potatoes are AWESOME! This gravy tastes just like my Naw-Naw's gravy!" My husband is a big, burly guy with a deep voice, and hearing him repeatedly praise the food while happily devouring his plate was entertaining all by itself. This was truly food for the soul. We left full, happy, and completely comforted by a fantastic meal. Fat Boyzzz has definitely earned repeat customers in us, and we'll absolutely be back. Highly recommended!

We stopped in on Thursday around 5:30 p.m. hoping to grab some salted caramel cookies, but they were sold out. So my husband ordered three Heath cookies and three white chocolate macadamia nut cookies instead. When the employee handed us our order, there was only one white chocolate macadamia nut cookie. My husband politely let her know that he had ordered three. Instead of simply saying, "Oops, let me fix that," she immediately argued that he had only asked for one. When he asked for the other two cookies, she gave us an obvious attitude. I honestly don't understand why. It's not like we were asking for free cookies--we paid for the other two. Maybe she was annoyed that she had to ring them up separately, but regardless, that isn't how customers should be treated. We stayed polite the entire time. We didn't raise our voices or give her any attitude back. It was disappointing to be treated that way over such a simple mistake. Experiences like this leave a bad impression, and my husband said that was the last time he'll shop at this location. The really disappointing part is that they make some damn good cookies. It's a shame that great products are being overshadowed by poor customer service.

The atmosphere here is quasi-dark, in a Texas Roadhouse/Red Lobster sort of way, and the seating is comfy. Bathrooms are also clean. Service here on my handful of visits has been spectacular. All of that speaks to excellent management at this location. Though I think that pickles should be served cold and from a jar, the other people in my party insisted on the fried version here. They loved them. The fried mozzarella ('crooked fried cheese') was average. While there was nothing wrong with it, there was also nothing spectacular about it. The fish and chips, on the other hand, were pretty damn good -- crispy and hot with a nice thick fillet. If only they could've served it between two slices of toasted bread. Anyway, the fries were also nice and crispy, and the slaw was crunchy, cool and creamy. Someone else in my party ordered the mushroom burger, and they were quite pleased. Honestly, it looked divine. The draft beer menu here consists of major brews with nary an IPA, though there are some macro bottled selections. Still, everything was served quickly and cold. It's rare that I eat at chains, unless I'm on the road and need to swing through a drive-thru. This place, however, does a very good job.
