I've loved everything I've eaten here. I've had each variety of Reuben and pastrami sandwich and they're NY level IMO. Best in the city. Today they were sold out and I got to try the chopped cheese which was so good. They ran out of hoagie rolls and put on one of the 3 I ordered on a sourdough and I think the sourdough version was even better (had half of each and my friend had half of each type). The owners are also super friendly and go out of their way to be kind. They went viral recently and they totally deserve it. Hope it means more success for them but not getting overworked. The only downside for me was that the meat was a bit fattier than I prefer. I probably should have asked if there was a leaner option available. I had been following Judahs for a while, before they blew up with the Oregonian feature and was very much looking forward to trying it. Waited in line for at least 20 mins (got there shortly after opening) and the food came out within another 20. It was disappointing to say the least. The sandwiches were nothing like I had seen online and everyone raving about. Not much meat and just put together very sloppy. We got 1/2 turkey on rye and 1/2 a Reuben. I know these sandwiches can be messy sometimes, but these felt like they were just thrown together as quickly as possible, without any thought. I am so happy I discovered Judah's Deli! I was raised on Ruben sandwiches (maternal side) and they know what they're doing! I was introduced to Judah's a couple of weeks ago. I met a man in line who told me he's from NY and moved to Pdx 25 years ago and Judah's is the closest thing for his pastrami and rye that he can find. I go for the turkey Ruben or the turkey on rye. The couple that runs the cart are super sweet and make me feel like they truly appreciate my business which really is that human touch that is rare to experience nowadays. Simply put, whether we're talking quantity or quality, I just don't think this place is worth what you'll be paying them. And that's not necessarily an indictment on their prices, I know things everywhere these days are expensive (though the most bland $22 pastrami sandwich I've ever eaten does raise some eyebrows). All I'm saying is there are better places to spend your money. For example, literally any other truck in this food park. The drool-worthy photos on Judah's IG led me to their food cart. The sandwiches are seriously gigantic. I split a Rachel sandwich with my husband and I was full the rest of the day. The pastrami was plentiful and peppery, overall flavor in each bite was delicious. The coleslaw made inexpensive side of the bread get soggy fast though. Slightly thicker rye might hold up better. The club looks great too and I'll be trying that next. What I wish they had is a patty melt. They have all the ingredients already! We asked but they said no. The pastrami was very tasty and tender..maybe a tad dry but I love lots of Russian dressing with mine so no issue. The Reubenowitz sandwich could use another slice of Swiss as it was hardly noticeable and another layer of sauerkraut which was hardly there just like the Swiss. The toasted rye was perfect..mildly crisp with great buttery flavor. From the pictures I've seen advertised the actual sandwich was smaller than I was expecting especially for a full sandwich at $22 or a half sandwich for $13. In the attached picture it looks larger than it is cause the meat was bunched up on smaller toasted rye slices. Service was good and not a long wait but it was right after the lunch rush when I showed up around 2:45. Another nice touch would be a 2nd pickle and better quality potato chips. ..again I liked the pastrami but the value for the price is not there....I'll stick to making my own at much less cost when I need my pastrami fix. read more

My husband has been wanting to try this food cart for a while so we took the dog and went on a Sunday. The food came out pretty quick and let me tell you. It was amazing. I got the Rachel with turkey and it was so tasty. I absolutely love that there is red cabbage in the sandwich and whatever the sauce they use - it's perfect. My husband said his pastrami was amazing and if you look at the photo, you can see how big the sandwich was they gave you a ton of meat. It's a drive for us but we will for sure be back and will be telling our friends they need to go. read more

I've eaten here a few times now and just...wow! And it's not just the big things like the awesome pastrami, it's the attention to small things... like the pomme frites... What? Why not call them French fries, freedom fries or something more 'merican? Because these really are true to the original idea. They are double fried where that shock makes for that kind of potato that is fluffy wuffy on the inside and almost translucent, golden... and not just crispy... absolutely CRUNCHY. So... I hereby dub thee, Sir Pomme Frite, Master of Potatoes, Defender of The Shrubbery and Honorary Knight of Ni, Peng, Neee-wom and thou shalt hold the title of "Best French Fry, So Good It Cannot Be Called a French Fry." Moving on. The pastrami is a very NYC style, not Katz's, but every bit as good as your neighborhood deli where bearded men in yamakas smoke their own. Altogether? Messy AF, so plan to let it fall apart and just pick up every last wonderful morsel with your fingers... so maybe bring a moistened towelette, because, yes, you are just that fancy. I understand that there are not great deli options in Portland. Was going to go to Judah's but edelweiss was much closer. I Ordered a build your own sandwich. Pastrami on rye with mustard. Also a pickle and one polish sausage on the side. To my disappointment when I got my meal I realized i f'd up. The sandwich.... The amount of pastrami laughable. It was also dry. The bread didn't taste like strong rye. The sausage was also not great. The pickle was kinda sweet like bread and butter which I dislike as I don't have mental health issues. At any rate.... If you consider places like Katz, greenburgs or Carnegie deli a 10 on a 1-10 scale edelweis is a 2. On the upside they sell Lindor truffles that you don't normally see. It's a food cart at a food cart park so plenty of seating around to enjoy or take home. My only recommendation would be that their business continues to do well so they can expand the menu out a bit. I would give the food quality and flavor five stars. My wife and I each ordered a sandwich and one soft drink. The bill was just over $40 before any tip. I would say the portion size was fairly regular. Any appetite at all would not be satisfied with a half sandwich so go for the full one. The service was below par. We arrived at 1 PM so should've been through the main lunch rush. They had a few customers. But it took a half hour to get two sandwiches. The young lady who served us at the window apologized and even offered a refund since it was taking so long to get a sandwich. We didn't take her up on our offer and the sandwich was great and we appreciated her concern but still was an unusually long wait time. read more

Best Reuben I've ever had! I grew up in LA (not NY but they got Canters), and I'd go to delis with my family. Since then I've moved up to Portland I've been craving a good sandwich. I heard about this spot and oh man!! I can tell these guys put their whole heart into the food. The pastrami and kraut had so much flavor. I was more than full after the first sandwich but decided to buy a second for later that night . Get there before all of Portland knows about this spot. The food is fantastic! The corned beef sensational. I had the Rubin and it was perfect. And I'm very very picky about Rubin. The cheese was good and strong. The bread was toasted crispy. Everything was hot and delicious. I highly recommend the matzo ball soup And they're very nice. It doesn't really matter to me if the service is good or not in most places as long as the food is worth it I don't care how the service is, but I would always prefer naturally that it's good.
