We've been coming to this dental office since my son was one years old, and I honestly can't say enough good things about them. From the very beginning, they made his visits feel safe, fun, and stress-free. As any parent knows, taking a little one to the dentist can be nerve-wracking -- but the team here has always been so patient, gentle, and kind. My son does cry during visits because he gets scared, but Dr. Kao is always incredibly patient with him. He speaks in such a calm, gentle voice and takes his time to reassure him, which truly helps ease his fears. Even on the tougher days, I appreciate how understanding and compassionate he is. During emergencies, I can always count on Dr. Kao for a quick response and for squeezing my son in for an appointment. That level of care and reliability means everything to us as parents. I usually don't write reviews unless I am extremely satisfied or extremely dissatisfied. Dr. Kao is truly like family to us. He has taken care of my kids' dental health for many years with great kindness and professionalism, and even goes out of his way to work extra hours when my kids cannot miss school. Even though his office is out-of-network with our insurance, we chose to continue seeing him because we trust him completely. Finding a responsible and trustworthy dentist in the Bay Area is not easy, but Dr. Kao truly puts his patients first. My almost 4-year old daughter is moderately to severely anxious to visit the dentist. She refuses to relax and open her mouth to let anyone poke around. We also have very bad genetics when it comes to teeth, and many of her teeth grew in with cavities and decay forming, such that it has been visibly noticeable. Dr. Kao and his staff were gentle and patient for every visit. We knew we had some work to do, but we had to wait until she was old enough to do the light sedation to do anything beyond a light cleaning. Unfortunately we couldn't get her to take x-rays before the day of our sedative appointment. I was probably more nervous than my child on the day of the visit, but I couldn't show it. Knowingly, someone came out to give me an update every so often. I was happy to hear that she slept the whole time. I think what won me over the most is that Dr Kao gave me his cell number in case we needed anything. He followed up with us after hours the evening of her visit. He was incredibly helpful because I had some questions I wouldn't have necessarily wanted to bother him with at that hour if he hadn't checked in. Best of all, my baby's smile is transformed in such a beautiful way!! I'm totally happy with the outcome. read more

My daughter has been a patient here since she was 2 years old, She's now 7! Dr Kao and his team have always taken great care of her even as a toddler when she was very apprehensive about going to the dentist. He and his team do a great job of making us both feel comfortable. Dr. Kao is very kind and knowledgeable. When my Daughter was 3 she had to have caps placed on several teeth due to milk rot and Dr Kao did an amazing job. All the directions and expectations for partial sedation were clear and the procedure went well, the work he did was amazing the caps that were placed have lasted all these years without any problems. Dr. Kao is the best! I've been taking my daughters there for over 6 years. All the staff is super friendly and understanding. My youngest daughter is terrified, but they always do their best to accommodate her. My eldest daughter is a pro now and she enjoys picking a show to watch while they work on her. Any time the girls needed something extra besides a cleaning, Dr. Kao always explained everything and addressed any concerns. I am a long time patient of Dr. Kao's and have had the pleasure of growing up under his care. When I was younger, I had an emergency that required immediate care and extensive surgical procedures. That day, I remember my parents reaching out to countless dental clinics but they were all incapable of performing the necessary techniques that would have allowed for me to have a normal bite and smile today. Despite the excruciating pain and panic that I felt, his patience assured me that everything was going to be okay. He stayed hours past closing to monitor me and even personally called to check in and follow up post surgery. I assure you that you will NOT get this level of care anywhere else. For about 10 years, I've gone to this clinic for regular appointments and I've realized that he is very personable with each and every one of his patients. I am ALWAYS greeted with a smile! Dental care can be extremely daunting especially for younger children and I really do believe Dr. Kao has a gift for any and all difficult cases! I brought my sister here for a broken tooth and was very happy with the service. She was seen by Dr Kao and stayed late to fix this emergency. The whole staff was very nice during her appointment. Dr.Kao took amazing care of my daughter and our family while she underwent sedation. The procedure went well and he was kind enough to reassure us every step of the way. He made sure to personally check on how our daughter was doing after the procedure and thankfully she did not need or ask for pain meds. She had little to no bleeding, no fever, and we followed the antibiotic regimen closely after Dr. Kao explained at length the post op care. My youngest son had a lot of cavities and can be a challenge for any dentist. All the pediatric dentist we spoke to insisted he needed general anesthesia which we did not want. So I decided to see Dr. Kao for oral sedation. He's seen my older boys for years. During the exam he did tell us since patients are conscious during oral sedation, it would depend on how my son responded to sedation medications. The sedation went pretty well. Even though my son was difficult to manage at times during the procedure, they were able to finish all the treatment. My son was back to himself in no time, and never had any issues since, until his baby teeth fell out. Now he actually looks forward to the cleanings. He really puts my son at ease. My kids have been going to Dr. Kao for many years and he never disappoint us every visit. My 12 year old daughter and 7 year old son are both looking forward and even jump from excitement every time we tell them they have dental appointment. The clinic is clean, bright, and just relaxing. The staff are very friendly and always make the kids comfortable. The TV in the ceiling is a plus as they can watch their favorite show as they get their teeth checked/cleaned. I brought my 3 year old and one year there on the same day. Logistically , I thought it would by great and save me time.Both kids were scared and my daughter ,especially ,is a loud crier. Needless to say, it was a challenge but turned out well. The staff were amazing! Right from scheduling the appt to completing the visit, I give everyone five freaken stars. I called the office last minute for dental check ups and they were able to accommodate before the office closed doe the holidays. Kids hadn't been to the dentist the entire year since I was afraid due to covid. Enrolling my son as a new patient was done through their painless online system. The office has balloons, a great fish tank, tiny toys that come out of a gum ball machine (they packed them in the great goodie bags due to covid). They are exceptional especially Dr. Kao. I don't know where he gets his patience from but he is a gentle and soft spoken doctor who doesn't get flustered even with a loud crying kid in his face.Highly recommend Dr Kao. We bring my toddler to Dr. Kao's office for cleanings and check ups. Everyone really goes out of the way to make us feel at home. He also takes the time to explain and answer any questions that I have about my son's dental care. The office is beautiful and clean. There are always television shows at the ready that keep my son calm and pleasantly distracted during the appointment. My son fell on a Sunday and chipped his tooth. It scared us to death. Dr Kao has been treating my daughter for the past six years. He is very good at detailing all the procedures necessary and he tells me not to sign the consent form until he's sure that I understand all of what is being done. During the last appointment he found that one of my daughter's cavities was on the verge of getting infected so it needed a crown. He called me on my cell phone to let me know what additional work was needed (I would much rather be in the waiting room but Covid procedures pretty much keeps everyone waiting outside). Of course, I accepted the cost of the crown because I'd rather have the job done right the first time instead of having to come back for more work in a month or so. Thanks Dr Kao for all you do! He has always been honest and courteous, and spends the time explaining treatment options without pushing for any unnecessary services. I spent hours looking for a gentle pediatric dentist for my toddler and chose Dr. Kao after reading reviews here. My son was about 17 months when we went (in Sept 2021). In less than 2 minutes the dentist went from saying hello to having my son held down by two people with sharp instruments in his mouth, drawing blood while my son screamed. I felt absolutely terrible. He then told me not to worry if my son was screaming, which only made things worse. No, sir, it does matter that my kid is screaming. My main goal taking my son to a dentist is to set him up to have a positive relationship with dentistry and to establish a good dental hygiene routine. The dentist should have discussed with my son and/or with me what he was planning to do to make us both comfortable. This treatment was so unnecessary for a healthy 17 month old. He also did not answer a question I had about my son's molars and was condescending. Why am I writing this review over 1.5 years later? Because Dr. Kao's office refuses to take our name off of their email list so we get periodic emails. They refuse to respond to messages asking for us to be removed. Please stop reminding me of our terrible experience. We are now much happier with a different dentist who took the time to talk to my son and let him see all the tools and let me ask questions. My son happily sat there while the dentist examined his teeth and no blood was required. read more

Dr. Kao exceeded all our expectations! He is friendly, patient, caring, and approachable. My son was not nervous at his first appointment, and now he even looks forward to his dental appointments. His office is clean with large fish tanks and the latest kid's movies playing in the waiting room. Kids also get to pick a movie to watch on the ceiling during their appointment. I have been a patient of his since childhood, and Dr. Kao and his team have been so consistent in providing great care, as an adolescent and now as an adult. I brought my daughter who is under 2 to Dr. Kao's office for the first time, and there were a lot of things I really didn't like about this place. 1) It was filthy. The floors and walls looked like someone smeared dirt all over. Let's hope they sanitize their tools? 2) Dr. Kao arrived 40 minutes late. I get that things don't always run on time especially when kids are involved. He also apologized which I appreciated, but do you know how hard it is to entertain a toddler in a confined room? He seems like a nice person, just wasn't very professional in my experience. I am sure he was trying to put me at ease because I had some concerns, but by making jokes out of everything it just came across as dismissive. 3) Prior to the appointment I had to fill out paperwork. After returning my authorizations by email, the administrative assistant accidentally sent me back SOMEONE ELSE'S credit card information. Luckily I would never abuse that information, but if they're going to be careless about that, what else is potentially happening? Unfortunately based on my experience, I will be looking for another place to take my daughter for her next visit. read more

I was horrified by their service. I told them it was my baby's first visit to the office. There was no explanation by anyone, but lets clean your teeth now. The dental assistant was new she couldn't do it, so she called another assistant, then the dentist finally came much later to finish. By then of course my baby is crying. He cleaned her teeth very fast. I just had 1 question, how many teeth she has, but the dentist couldn't answer. He was in a rush to leave, so he was talking to me while I was trying to calm my baby down, so that didn't help. He left quickly and the assistant rushed me away. They didn't even use a bib while cleaning her! I had to use my sleeves to wipe away her tears, and then they finally gave a tissue when i was leaving. Overall it was such a terrible experience I have to leave a review to warn others. I am too scared to bring my baby there again. I will be having nightmares of this place for a long time. read more

Avoid this doctor! The place is filthy, the doctor is always late, but most importantly, they over treat and over use anesthetic for young kids! My kid had a few cavities and they insist to use anesthetic, then the doctor is late, when they accept my kid into the operation room, she already awoke a little, and totally scared by strangers trying to tie her up into a bench, my kid was screaming for 10 minutes before they put her down using extra anesthetic. It was a horrible experience. And they did crown without parents' agreement. read more

I was seen by Dr. Kao for practically my whole life. (3 years old to 19) I also was seen by Dr. Chen for my braces when I was 16. I'd like to thank them and give them praise for making dentistry and orthodontics interesting to me. In fact, I'm considering being a dental assistant or orthodontist's assistant. In my 16 years seeing Dr. Kao, he has always made sure my visits with him were enjoyable. He always made me feel comfortable and safe (unlike most children at the dentist) and I always left my appointments quite happy. As I got older, I became aware of the reception and billing staff. I realized just how kind and flexible they were with my mom's income. She was a single mother with two kids to support at that time, and Dr. Kao's staff were always gladly willing and able to create payment plans for her with very little interest. I was extremely impressed by the speed, precision and painlessness that Dr Juei Kao and his assistant exhibited while fixing my child's first cavity! My child was not only super comfortable throughout the procedure, stress-free but honestly didn't feel a thing! and not only that...didn't want to leave the dental office- (dr Kao had put on a movie for my child) I think I was more worried about the procedure than my child.. but Dr. Kao made it a very good, fast and painless experience for me as a worried parent! Also like to add that this was during covid time and His practice followed all CDC guidelines and made it very stress-free to get in and out of the office.
