Dr. Toy has been my dentist for a couple of years now and I couldn't be happier. Everytime I have to come in--which fortunately isn't too often--everything is easy peasy from reception to billing. I usually don't have to wait more than 10 minutes and I have been able to schedule appointments at my convenience. I'm also not very fond of going to the dentist, but Dr.Toy is great at what she does and keeps me calm and collected. This review is long overdue. Dr. Toy has been my dentist ever since I was 4 years old. Having been with her for over 10 years I can definitely say that I am very grateful for my parents having selected a dentist that is both genuinely very caring and great at what she does. Especially during my younger years I used to be scared of getting my teeth examined, but Dr. Toy was very patient with me. Her patience with me especially as a child was very comforting and has made me feel more comfortable overall when getting my teeth examined. I am honestly a bit of a clean freak and I can personally say that her office is very clean. As uncomfortable as going to the dentist may be, she and her staff always make it a priority to ensure that I am comfortable throughout my visit. As one of the oldest patients of Dr. Toy (yes, I'm almost 26!) I definitely recommend her and her staff. Her office is very kid friendly. I never felt anxiety even as a child going to her office. I've been going to Dr. Toy for almost 22 years and she did a great job with taking care of my teeth. I had lots of cavities, fillers, and even a silver crown on my tooth growing up; now that I'm an adult, lots of people compliment my smile. I never had braces because Dr. Toy has taken care of me so well. I appreciate her, her dental assistants, and the front desk staff. They're always so welcoming and accommodating to my schedule. We have been going to Dr. Toy for 3 years. Our first time was horrible but my son was 2 so I gave her he benefit of the doubt. We only see her twice a year so I stayed. This last time it was the worst ever. Dr. Toy only examines the patient all the real work is done by the hygienist. This last time my son was not in a good mood the hygienist tried her best. Dr. Toy heard the commotion came over and started picking at my sons teeth. It wasn't pretty. Lots of screaming and yelling from both my son and Dr. Toy. At one point she told my son "stop being a big baby". We will not be returning. My son is traumatized and now I have to find another dentist. If your still willing to take a chance with Dr. Toy you should know that if your child is 5 an under they will only see them before noon. Older kids go in the afternoon. No exceptions! Children do get a toothbrush at every appointment and a paper airplane. Dr. Toy is only with the kids about 5 minutes. Seems friendly but talks very loud. read more

I had a very bad experience as a child with a dentist that has left me nearly phobic about going to the dentist. Because of this I was determined that my child would have the best possible experience that wouldn't end up with her in my situation (36 and still afraid to go to the dentist). I really did some research as you can imagine before the fact. Dr. Toy seemed to really be up on her stuff. On the big day I was set to yank my kid out of the chair if I sensed anything, anything at all negative. Well, I was so overjoyed to find out what awesome staff they have there. Gentle, kind, understanding, and efficient. They know their stuff and are great with kids! They have cartoons for the kids to watch while in the chair, as well as sunglasses for the bright light and a toy present when they're done. Dr. Toy was efficient, kind and professional. In the end, my daughter asked me when she's going to the dentist again, cause she really likes going!! I am over the moon about this dentist, and will be soon taking my youngest daughter to see her as well. I highly recommend her. read more

Do not go to this dentist! It was the only one we were allowed on our HMO. She was utterly negligent in treating our 4 year old's cavities. We were finally able to switch to a PPO and a new dentist (Claudia Masouredis--she's fabulous). But, because of Dr. Toy's terrible decisions and poor communication, we wound up with a root canal and a $2000 anesthesia bill. read more

15+ years ago when I needed a pediatric dentist for my oldest child who was afraid of going to the dentist, my dentist recommended the office of Dr. Toy. I cannot say enough great things about this office. They were very kind and gentle with her as well as my other two children. From my experience, they provide high quality care to their patients, provide dental education, and really listen to you. My youngest child continues to go there to see Dr. Toy for her regular check-ups and Dr. Brown who is the orthodontist there. Looking for a pediatric dentist wasn't an easy task. But I feel that mission was well accomplished when I found Dr. Toy 11+ years ago for both of my children. Not only she carefully checks and cleans their teeth on regular basis, but also Dr. Toy is being honest in what needs to be done. By far the worst pediatric dentist ever! She doesn't even deserve a star at all! She didn't even take the time to make my 4 1/2 daughter feel comfortable and goes right into the appointment with the cleaning/ check up... not introducing her to the instruments nor the surroundings in the room. My daughter previously seen her as a new patient last year and was aware of her high anxiety but didn't make no attempt to calm her down. At the end of the appointment, she even had the nerve to let me know her own daughters were the same way with high anxiety when it comes to the any medical visits. i would give a negative infinity stars but... inconvenient, unfriendly, unprofessional, uneverything a pediatric dentistry should be. my daughter chipped her tooth and was always in groaning pain and needed immediate attention. i got a referral from our family dentist office laluces in south san francisco to go to joan toy. i called to make an appointment with toy's office and refused until i faxed the referral over!!! of course my fax at work was out of order at the time. i called my regular dentist to fax it over so i can get an appointment!!! i felt as if they didn't believe i had insurance or a referral, are they serious???? once they received the fax i called to get an appointment. but of course they could not see her until 2 months!!! remind you that i had told them she's in excrutiating pain. they were very rude, and had a do not care attitude. i had a bad taste in my mouth already about their practice but decided since they are covered and closest to my house i'll give them the benefit of the doubt. i paid out of pocket expenses to relieve my daughters pain!!! with a ucsf dentist which were very helpful and friendly!!!!! her appointment came, 3 weeks ago. i could not make the appointment so my brother brought her to the appointment. they declined to see her because a legal guardian must be present. i exclaimed to them that this information should have been brought to my initial attention since my daughter is a new patient-all requirements should have been explained to me. the receptionist had the nerve to say "you should have asked" how am i supposed to know which questions to ask? they should have a normal routine/information for new patients like every dentist around!!!!! as i was explaining this situation to my coworkers while on hold, rude dentist toy yelled on who am i speaking to. it was obviously none of her business and has no business talking to people the way she did and declined to see my daughter at all!!!! as i told more friends about this situation. i discovered that one of my best friends worked at her practice and reaffirmed her unprofessional ways. she even mentioned that one child patient was being incooperative while trying to administer anesthesia. instead of going through the necessary steps of wrapping the child in a papoose wrap to restrain them, and give medication then-she held the childs head and just pulled the teeth out!!!! that's horrifying!!!that child must be scarred!!! i will never dare have any soul go to her practice!!!! you have a child, don't put them in her care!!!! i since switched to dr. golden & lee in westborough, they're perfect, warm friendly, helpful and very professional. read more
