    Cobb salad

Let's start with the great part. I bought a yogurt parfait, and it was a hit. The person who had it loved the yogurt and granola. No complaints there. Now to the bad, I paid $15 for a Cobb Salad; unbeknownst to me, they changed how they prepped it in the last month and now premixed the salad dressing into the salad. Previously salad dressing was on the side, as any Cobb salad at any place has served it. When I went home, I was met with a mushy salad drenched in too much dressing. No way to save it for later, as it will only get worse. I tried to make the best of it and eat some of it, but regret it now with a stomach ache. Throwing the rest out. I would never have paid this much for a Cobb salad I couldn't enjoy for lunch. I brought it up to them then, and the response was sorry next time, ask for it on the side, this is how they do it now for the last month. 1- do not drench a salad; it masks if you received fresh lettuce and ingredients because everything tastes overwhelmed with dressing - better yet, ask if they want dressing in the salad. Not sure if I will try again. I loved the first visit, thought. So be warned, ask for it on the side if you order.

I used to love Batata and still kind of do love their food but I will never come back…read more On 5/26, I ordered the Zen burger after coming back from the hospital and giving birth to my son a few days earlier. Looking for a burger, I picked the Zen burger which was not listed as having walnuts. I even called the restaurant to confirm this burger was nut free. When I bit into this burger, within 30 seconds, I realized something was wrong when my lips started swelling up and my throat started to close in. My husband called the restaurant back and again asked if the zen burger had walnuts. I was assured that it did not. When I said, please go ask the kitchen, the person on the phone did and confirmed, "oh, it does have a little bit of walnuts in it". I don't think that the people working here understood the severity of this and they offered a refund of the meal that we threw away. Wow, how generous! I spoke to the manager and she just said sorry and that the owner would contact us. We wound up having to go to the hospital over this, after just leaving with our newborn. What a day. It's been a week and my husband has stopped by the talk to the owner but she hasn't been there and has not called, emailed, or done anything since. I don't care if she is busy, it honestly doesn't matter, this is important and I needed some reassurance that this would never happen again to anyone since someone else could have died from this but that never happened. I guess she is just too busy to care. Unfortunately, this is a local business that I used to love but I will never come back and would advise anyone with a food allergy to go somewhere else. The next day they did update the menu and the zen burger now does say "contains walnuts" but it's not reassuring that this will never happen again.

We came here as a group and really enjoyed our meal here. The service was fast (under 10 minutes…read morefor 4 separate meals) and also very friendly. I ordered the veggie burger and my partner ordered the Brie and ham sandwich with a side of broccoli cheddar soup. The veggie burger was perfect in terms of mix of veggies, flavor and freshness and both sandwiches came with a small side of tortilla chips and fresh salsa. We also ordered a side of French fries which were also fresh. Our least favorite thing was the broccoli cheddar soup, which was a little more watery than we would have liked. Others in our party ordered a cheeseburger and an "ah love" chicken sandwich and they liked their food. I ordered a fresh lemonade and it was homemade and tasted great. The food here is very fresh and reasonably priced and very enjoyable overall. We would definitely come back the next time we are here! Warning the parking lot is on the smaller side and there are only about 4-5 tables inside and 2-3 tables on the small outdoor patio.

We have been to the bake shop at least 6'times now after discovering it about 2 months ago. I…read moredesperately want to love the place but we have determined the only thing we like here are the breakfast biscuits. They are amazing... crushes! Crisp, delicate, creamy, savory... big enough to share!!!!!! They also make some killer coffee beverages! I won't say anything negative but the rest is just not for us... not fans of much or anything else and we have purposely had different things each time to explore the menu. Our palates are not aligned and that's fine - more and bigger is not always better. Cute inside and beyond welcoming staff.... Love the biscuits!!!!!!

A tale of two trips (with some pie in the middle) creates this review of Hometown Bakeshop. You see…read moreI completely forgot to write this place up back in July and after visiting them only a few days ago (for a different reason), I realized a review needed to be penned. A four star compilation with mostly positive things to say. Let's get baking. Well, that summer trip actually involved breakfast. My wife and I trekked over to Centerport (on her birthday actually), for a quaint breakfast inside this small bake shop. The menu and its enticing Insta pics really brought us here and so we got both coffee and a morning meal. That aforementioned menu is quite vast and with so much to choose from, we decided to split "The Famished Breakfast" which included all kinds of tasty options (eggs, bacon, pancakes, fried cheese, tostones, and more). To nitpick, some items listed and some that we got weren't exactly the same, but to also be fair, everything was delicious. Equally delicious might be their variety of savory pies. They have so many to choose from, but you have to either call ahead or be lucky with what they have. Two made their way home with us (the piggy mac and the chopped cheese) which were consumed shortly after our visit with both being dense and rich, but definitely tasty. Not as equally delicious might be their coffee. Yeah, I think I've turned into a bit of a snob as these days I'm looking for legitimacy in the coffee itself and not just some pretty pics and cool flavors. Though Hometown has quite a variety of options, I'd say that if you're looking for some strong coffee, this wouldn't be the spot. If you're looking for some great breakfast and crullers, well... And therein lies our most recent trip: crullers. Hometown doles out a plethora of cruller options, but only on Sundays. Get there early (like pre-opening by 15-20 minutes at least) to be sure you snag whichever flavors they're going to have (check Instagram). Knowing we were going to share with a bunch of other people, we chose a dozen to try, but heed my words, these things are gargantuan! Also, they won't last long in preserving so if you have any leftovers, don't expect them to be good past the day you bought them. But in the moment while they're fresh, you'll be in cruller heaven after one bite (especially if you try the death by chocolate one). Overall, hometown Bakeshop is a legitimate place for everything they concoct in an oven (throw in stovetop too). Yeah perhaps their coffee sounds better than it tastes, but that might just be me wanting something a little more coffee forward. Beyond that discrepancy, I'd gladly return to Hometown for breakfast, pies, crullers, or who knows what else? Come and get some!
