I was recommended to come to Juice Box by several friends in the area. Juice Box is located in Chinatown in a plaza that contains many restaurants stores to visit. We decided to try the strawberry mango, shaved ice with strawberry ice cream in rice balls. After about 10 minutes of waiting, we got our order, and I was very impressed with the shaved ice! The fruits, refresh and sweet, and the shaved ice itself had a good flavor that was powered by the condensed milk. Normally, when I go to shaved ice places one issue that I will recognize is eating straight ice with no flavor. However, here at Juice Box I did not have that issue at all! We also decided to top our treat with strawberry ice cream. That also gave the ice a nice flavor once it began to melt down a bit. In addition, the rice balls that we ordered were nice, soft and chewy (very similar to mochi consistency). If you're looking for a dessert, that is great to share with your family and friends this is the place to go! With our one order we shared that with about 5 friends. We also get ours with rice balls to add some texture. The dessert is very simple, but it is a great palette cleanser. This place never disappoints! Went here a couple weeks back, but forgot to review! I honestly remember coming here when I was little and loving this dessert so much! Pretty good, but can be pricey. I LOVED Din Tai Fung's shaved ice. Sadly, they got rid of it during COVID. While visiting Houston, my sister wanted to help me find a replacement for my love of Din Tai Fung's shaved ice. The consistency and flavor of the shaved ice here is pretty on par with DTF. Due to the topping we picked, the shaved ice came out to $17 which is on the pricier end in my opinion. We ordered a large taro ball brown sugar shaved ice, with tapioca, mochi, lychee jelly, and pudding. The pudding was an extra $2.77 and the mochi was an extra $1.75. I thought the pudding would be egg pudding, but it was a flan instead. $2.77 extra is a bit steep for a "premium" topping in my opinion. The mochi was chewy and largely shaped, so I didn't enjoy it too much either. Neither one was worth their extra price. The shaved ice was really bland. We had to go back and ask if they could put condensed milk on it which made it 20x better. Without the condensed milk, I would say it was 2.5/5 stars. While dining, a homeless person came in and basically harassed my family and I. The employees did nothing about it and didn't ask him to leave. He came, harassed us, left, and came back again to harass us. It was a very uncomfortable experience. All in all, I probably wouldn't pay $17 again for this. read more

This place was on my list to try & since I am around the area, I might as well give it a go. I decided to get their Durian shaved ice; watermelon, mango, strawberry for my toppings & they top it off with some condensed milk. Alright, so I did get a little bit of the durian however they drenched a whole bunch of condensed milk which took the durian taste away; plus it tasted more like ice than the durian itself. The condensed milk was extremely too sweet but the fruits counterbalanced the sweetness of the milk. Let's just say if there were no fruits in my shaved ice I wouldn't have finished it. I was too lazy to walk over to Gong Cha for my milk tea but this was a mistake. The Juice Box's milk tea is bitter and it tastes like it's made from powder. Kind of chalky. Their tapioca are also the mini-size pearls. I would not get milk tea here. Their fruit desserts are excellent, as always. The shop doesn't have a ton of seating, but there was plenty for us. They were closing soon but people were still coming in, ordering and eating in. I was coming to get the pudding shaved ice they were advertising in the window, but got distracted by the Taiwanese shaved ice menu. I got a few toppings - taro balls (芋圓), grass jelly and red bean. Just like a traditional Taiwanese ice shop, they drizzle the sugar syrup over the toppings and the shaved ice. You would think the ice would be tasteless but the sugar sauce really changes things! I ended up getting a pudding on the side, too, just because that's what I really came in here for. It was tasty, too and super cute! The Taiwanese couple behind the counter were SO cute and nice. It was super busy at Nu Cafe. So, one of my friends suggested trying out Juice Box instead. There weren't too many people here when we came. I first noticed their menu, which was humongous. I felt immediately overwhelmed with exactly what I should be ordering. The cashier didn't help either. She was more frustrated that I didn't know the difference between their shaved ice and snowflake ice. I guess business started to pick up with more customers pouring in, and she was starting to panic. Lol. Anyway, shaved ice was just shaved ice with condensed milk poured on top of it. Snowflake ice was shaved flavored ice. Now, regardless of which shaved ice you choose, you can top them with different kinds of fruit. Unfortunately, the snowflake ice only came in one size - the large shareable size. I wasn't that hungry, since I ate dinner beforehand. I also didn't want to share my shaved ice either. Hahaha. So, I ended up ordering the medium sized shaved ice with strawberries and strawberry ice cream on top. Maybe it was what I ordered? The shaved ice was ok. The strawberries were super frozen. The strawberry ice cream was good, but nothing spectacular. On the other hand, my siblings enjoyed their mango strawberry snowflake ice. They said it tasted just like eating at Nu Cafe. Although, in my opinion, I have to say that Nu Cafe has their shaved ice presentation down pat compared to Juice Box. If you want some Juice in your Box, Houston isn't necessarily the best place to get some, unless I'm in town, and I'm not at the current time. However, this place will, at least, help you put those thoughts on ice. Literally. What to get: One of their fruit ice bowls Why: Because it has fruit, and ice, and is in a bowl I can't give them less than 4 even though I probably should. Everyone seems to love this place, and it's very popular and busy and sometimes has quite the line (but then what in the Don Huang plaza doesn't? Speaking of which parking sucks in this plaza, so bad). I guess my complaint is that it's really basic. It's just some shaved ice (flavorless ice!) with a bunch of different fruits on top of it and then some condensed milk or what not. I'm not crazy about condensed milk, but even if you are, you're really just paying for the fruits. And it's not dirt cheap. Now the fruits are good, granted, but I mean, fruit is fruit, and... I guess what I'm saying is, I just don't get it. But it was a fun experience and the fruit is yum and maybe you'll love it like lots of others do, so I can't give it less than a 4. I like this place! The options are aplenty and they are not skimpy on fruit. The menu board is so large that it pans across the entire prep area so you will likely find something you want. There are so many choices it can be a tad overwhelming to some but hey, I like freedom of choice. From fruit smoothies to sago, chocolate concoctions to coffee, milk teas to shaved ice, what not to love? The durian lover can try their durian shaved ice, the coconut sago lover can try their grass jelly or red bean sago drink, the mango lover can try their snowflake bowl full of perfectly sweet and refreshing mango shaved ice and lots of mango chunks, topped with creamy vanilla ice cream. For the price, it is worth it. If one order is too much for you, split it with a friend. The orders came out pretty quickly even when there was only one person working behind the counter as my group of seven people didn't get impatient (and believe me, it's hard for some of them to be patient). I really enjoy fruit based desserts and this place wins my heart. The sago is pretty standard but easy to drink in a cup. Great service & incredible shaved ice & Mochi! They have renovated and everything looks so awesome! The owners are the main people to help with the orders and they are just sweet/amazing people. Their fruits are fresh and everything tastes top notch. Their pricing have increased a bit but worth every penny. I think I might go broke eating here so often... Also, one of the reasons I love this place is not only do they have fresh fruits, they constantly clean the place so it's super clean! What more could you ask for?
