Not sure anyone here knows what an açaí bowl supposed to taste like? I live nearby and stopped for a much needed açaí bowl. I got the Rio bowl and asked to substitute the banana for strawberries and they have no fresh strawberries?! Okay, I went with it. $12 later for a bowl half the size I get in LA, I got watery, subpar açaí bowl. They blend it with frozen strawberries and had chunks in it that weren't blended well. There were barely any toppings and was an overall disappointment. I've been to Brazil half a dozen times and had açaí everywhere in the states and was never this disappointed. The acai bowl was great. A bit more expensive than other acai bowls, but it's packed with bananas and chocolate chips. The place is small, so don't expect to sit down to enjoy your bowl, but luckily Tompkins Square Park is right next door. Very friendly staff and vibe. Another customer started chatting with me about how he used to live in Brazil and this place is the most authentic acai bowl he's been able to find in the city -- high praise! read more

I love a place that serves Bustelo. Owned by a Cuban woman, this place is serving as a humble hidden gem right next to the F train 2nd Ave station. The large Bustelo sign caught my eye (I'm Dominican) and their fresh juices and smoothies looked delicious. This place rules because they have a decent amount of choices and it's freaking cheap as hell for a decent sized juice or smoothie. Unlike at the dreadful Jamba Juice, they don't overly sweeten/fatten up with sugar/cream/yogurt/whatever and can make things to order. And there is a nice array of vegan baked goods as well, if you're in the mood for something a bit more substantial. I will be a regular customer all summer! read more

I wanted to be healthy and ordered a juice lol. I was expecting something drinkable? What I received was a really really tart and sweet juice. I wanted to be able to taste the ginger as described, the parsley and the greens. It seemed like they just dumped I ripe green apples and pineapple. And I paid close to $9. I also asked if they substitute ingredients and the guy said they don't. I don't know about this place...there's too many good juice places to come back here again. read more

DRINK QUALITY: Having been to many juice bars on the west side, I kind of felt that the ingredients here weren't as fresh and you could tell because the drink itself, while refreshing, wasn't vibrant with flavors. It's kind of like comparing the vibrance and the freshness of a freshly opened can of coke with another can that's been opened & sitting in the fridge for a half-day/day. I am having a mixed feeling on Juicy Lucy. After I completed a juice cleansing program, I have been on a lookout for a closer-to-reality price for natural organic pressed juice. I heard Juicy Lucy is cheaper than major players out there so I stopped by to pick up a bottle of All Green. It is $6.5 a bottle, expensive but about $2 cheaper than other places. I was so excited about that I took a big sip and thought it would be a great movie theater beverage and God was I wrong. It had an odd after taste, possibly from cucumber or celery. The ginger or juice inside did not seem to help either. I am sure it is probably the healthiest juice out there since I don't even taste any bit of sweetness. However, I would rather eat salad in this case. I did pick up a slice of banana bread and it was nutty, soft and sweet. I might still return to try other "juices" that do not contain so much vegetables. I hope it will taste better. read more

Since I wasn't feeling well and I mean to the point words were not coming out of my mouth all that well the women with glasses looks at me like I'm crazy and was beyond rude to be until I finally said listen give me a wheatgrass shot with a slice on orange please, when I asked for orange wedge it was like I was asking for champagne ( eye roll ) get over yourself. Reading the previous review by Julie B made me want to take action. I have been a faithful and devoted acolyte of Juicy Lucy's every single time I am in the neighborhood. I have been always amazed by the amount of charm, service, and selection that comes out of such a small space. I'm a little saddened and amazed that Julie B. felt that a small business only accepting cash was such an insult to her sense of entitlement. Someone expects you to have a tiny amount of american legal-tender currency in your possession in order to pay for something? The horror! I bet it was really, really hard to find an ATM in New York, huh boo? You probably cried cuz you had to touch some dirty, dirty cash that drug-dealers touch, huh? Oh well. Julie B. probably got upset because she had to drink a wonderful, refreshing , fresh fruit smoothie from Juicy Lucy's instead of her regular diet of Hater-ade and prunes. But I digress.... Suffice it to say that I'm a HUGE fan of Juicy Lucy's and a loyalist, even though I no longer live in New York. I suggest that people like Julie B. stick to the outlets of monolithic corporations such as Starbuxxx and JoombaJuice for their safety, sterility, and (credit-card accepting) convenience rather than submit to the charm, quirkiness, and personalized service of of privately owned establishments (where people are allowed to have bad days). An LES local friend gets his coffee here every morning and on a recent Wednesday I joined him on his way to work. It seems from the reviews that this is more the place to go for a refreshing glass of juice on a hot summer day. But on this chilly January morning, my cafe con leche hit the spot. I must note, however, that my Miami roots came out here and I could definitely taste the difference between the Brazilian cafe con leche and the cuban one I was expecting (cubans use more sugar, natch). Since I like to workout never, I try to avoid too much fruit after my breakfast. This usually lasts until around11:05am. Then I head over to Juicy Lucy for hard-to-burn carbohydrates in the form of fruity blended beverages. Also sometimes a cookie. Juicy Lucy, with its two locations a street apart from each other, is arguably one of four best juice bars in the city. (The other three: One Lucky Duck, Liquiteria, Melvin's Juice Box.) It's also the cheapest. It's small but it's a stand. This tends to be the case with stands. If there is a line it never lasts too long, unlike at other juice bars where your hair grays while you wait. There is a little bench to sit on inside that is not at all comfortable but its mere presence is comfort enough. They sell pre-mixed juices if you're in a hurry. If you're not, go with the options displayed on the sign above the register. There are many and everything I have had has been wonderful. For juices you can pick your own ingredients, up to 3, of various fruits and veggies (sippin on ginger and juice... Hahaha, dumb). You can also order one of several smoothies, caffeinated beverages, or lemonades. A bit too much to drink last night? Try the hangover juice (apple, something I don't remember, cucumber) or just grab a coconut with a straw sticking out of it. Lately they have had gazpacho as their soup of the day special- I had it yesterday and I had it again today. It's good. It doesn't have the kick that Num Pang's gazpacho has but that's why I take it home and spice it up a little. Juicy Lucy brings to mind the rum stands in the Caribbean. It makes you happy even though you aren't surrounded by sand or wearing a bikini and flip flops. read more

Hi, I'm a smoothie slut. I'm also a huge fan of chai. And bananas. Bananas and chai? I never thought I'd think of the combination as something I'd keep drinking even through a brain freeze on both sides of my forehead. I'm not one to hold up a line by asking what everything is or counting 33 cents in pennies, but I was the only one there and the girl who helped me asked what I liked &she recommended the double banana chai smoothie. &I was like owwwmahhhgahhh, I'm sooo in loveee... I will be back. I want to try their lemonade, and the melon mango ginger sans the ginger smoothie. No mystery fruit or syrups here! Wayyy better than Jamba Juice. The first time I walked into Juicy Lucy's, I thought I had stepped into the kitchen of someone who could bake really well. It smells delicious. Oh, and by kitchen, I mean a real Manhattan kitchen; in terms of space, Juicy Lucy is a teensy cubbyhole that would be a great place to duck into if you were being chased. For a cubbyhole, though, this delicious juice bar stocks an orchard full of all sorts of fruits, herbs, and nectars, just waiting to be concocted into a juice or smoothie creation of your choice. (They have fresh watermelon juice--yum!) The smell of fresh-baked goodness likely comes from their array of vegan treats, although I haven't tried any. Lately, I've been obsessed--wait, make that addicted--to one of their smoothies, thanks to the recommendations of fellow Yelpers (you folks have made me a wee bit poorer this summer). It's the Amazon Cherry Energy Smoothie with Vitamin C. I don't know what else is in there besides cherry juice, vitamin C and ginseng, but it might be magic. It's five dollars and ninety-seven cents of heaven. That said, I was annoyed with them during one of my last visits. If your store says it's open until eleven, please don't make me feel like an unwanted houseguest when I walk in at 10:15 pm. I went in there, and I had to wait for the guy behind the counter to stop chatting on his cellphone to ask me what I wanted. Now, I have a peeve about paying for services when you can't even give customers the common courtesy of refraining from talking on the phone to someone else--it makes me think you don't care about keeping my business. If you're a small business that sells smoothies for about 40% more than Jamba Juice, good customer service on your end goes a long way. Anyway, when I asked for my smoothie fix, he shut me down, telling me that it was too late and he had already cleaned the blender for the night. I could get coffee, though, he told me. Dude. The reason I hit up your juice bar is because I don't drink coffee (nothing holier than thou about it, I just don't like the taste) and I want something sweet and more refreshing than the Diet Coke in my fridge. Ugh. So there's a tip for you: Juicy Lucy is open until 11, but if you want something involving a blender...well, it closes earlier. read more

Tiny little store but I had the best green juice there. Ordered two kinds: all greens (with ginger) and the cold buster (with the substitution of carrots with pineapple). The medium size is big enough for our appetites, merely cost 4 dollars!! What a bargain. The all greens was as good as all the other juice places, slightly better because of the ginger. The COLD BUSTER was the best juice I've ever had, it turned out to be green with some foam, because of the added pineapple. OMG, if only this place is closer to me. But then again, it won't be this cheap, and become more commercialized and fancy looking like Liquiteria, rather than focusing on the healthy ingredients and quality themselves. read more

The juice bar couldn't be any better! All the ingredients are fresh & pressed upon request! I got the "chico stress tamer" which is the small juice with cantaloupe & ginger. Phew! Walking all around NYC requires some refueling, especially on those hot, muggy days. Juicy Lucy's is a little stand that seemed to pop out of nowhere on the corner of E. 1st and Peretz. They serve up fresh juices, smoothies, coffee, chai, and some local baked goods. Reasonable prices, given the use of fresh fruits and veggies($3.50 for 16 oz). My only complaint was that I was looking for something cold and refreshing, not tepid...but they were cool about it when I asked for an extra cup full of ice. Maybe I should try some of the straight-up juice blends. I've been going to Juicy Lucy once in awhile for a few years. Liquiteria tends to be much better for the juice blends, but I'll hit up Lucy if I want a post brunch juice and I'm hanging around Tompkins. For $5,28, a soymilk based pina colada ought to taste like more than just soy milk and ice. If I'm going to spend that much I can just get a box of Edensoy. Whenever I hear someone mention Juicy Lucy, I always think it's a code for some nasty diarrhea. I had to step in and see for myself. The first thing you notice upon entering Juicy Lucy is that it is small. Even for a guy like me, - so small I sometimes feel like I should have auditioned for Ratatouille - this place is tiny. This is a little cute fresh juicy stand on the corner of 1th Ave and 5th street. They server standard coffee and juicy.. the quality isn't bad.but not great.. The main reason I like this place is in the summer time they have few chair + table outside that you can chill. I enjoy grab a cup of drinks and chill with friends.. great people watching. read more
