I've been to this location a couple times now, as well as their West Village one. I've had a few different smoothies that have all tasted great. The Detox Lunch has been my favorite and has become my go-to choice. The quality is definitely there as well, you can see all the fresh fruits and veggies they use right in the kitchen. Prep time is quick, definitely faster than a standard juice bar like Jamba Juice, and the staff have always been friendly and efficient. This used to be my favorite place for açaí bowls. I went there yesterday, and everything has changed--and not for the better. The staff was terrible, and the smell inside was unpleasant. I ordered 3 açaí bowls and spent almost $70, only to receive three half-empty containers filled with a bland, inedible mush topped with banana, strawberry, and chia seeds. It was a huge disappointment. It's really sad to see how much this place has declined after so many years. They were super friendly, just two guys behind the counter of a really small shop - just a little room to stand and order plus an ATM since they are cash-only. Service was friendly waiting for us to decide on our order and then amazingly fast, like less than a minute for the smoothie to be ready. We ordered the strawberry, banana, and blueberry smoothie and added boba for a total of $9.50. The boba was $0.50 and we got a large because it was only an extra $1. This is probably the best boba I've had so far in nyc. Granted, I've only tried two other spots and one of them was Grace Street which I don't like and also don't understand the hype. The price was fair unlike other boba shops and size was big compared to other boba shops. I wish we could change the sweetness levels but they don't do that apparently and if you say you want to, the cashier will say that he/she will do their best to make it less sweet. The owner is a really lovely gentleman who smiles a lot, makes friendly conversation, and is a family man who has his daughter draw pictures to help promote his business (her most current art work encourages customers to please wear masks and showcases some very bright fruit renderings). Try their Passion Green. It's refreshing and sweet, but green enough to convince me I'm doing something nice for my body even though it tastes just like a really sweet and delicious passion fruit. If you're not sure what to order from their extensive menu, you can also ask the owner. I once told him I wanted something tart, but not like a lemonade and he whipped up a special juice for me. Randomly stumbled upon Hawa when looking for fruit smoothies and boba in the neighborhood and was so happy that I did! Although rather inconspicuous on the outside, Hawa Smoothies has a small but clean and nicely air-conditioned interior with signs and displays plastered everywhere for you to find the drink that you desire. I tried a passion fruit-papaya fruit smoothie with tapioca (this was not on the menu but the man was happy to make whatever combination I wanted). You're able to see the display of fresh fruit used to make these delicious concoctions and we didn't have to wait long to get our drinks. My friend tried their standard black milk tea with tapioca and said it was tasty. My drink was refreshing, and the tapioca had the perfect chewiness too it-- the pearls are a hair on the smaller side of what I prefer but the texture was still good. By the time I had gotten home the drink was slightly melted, but if anything a hot NYC day and long-ish trek home without the ability to taste the drink beforehand because of face coverings are more to blame. Normally, I would go for a cold drink but seeing this weather I went for a favorite, bubble tea, in a hot temperature drink. It was served a bit above warm temperature. The tea was flavorful but nothing you can't make at home. But being out and about and needing something warm & hot Hawa served the need. The Boba themselves were very good. Some places serves them too mushy but Hawa does them right. The Boba is soft on the outside and still chewy with a light denseness on the inside. They are mid-sized, smaller than Kung-Fu's and if you had Tiger Sugar, it is in between in terms of size from the small and larger Boba Tiger Sugar serves. On a few of the chews I could taste the sugar in the Boba. The drinks are certainly good but not exceptionally great. read more

I went for a protein acai bowl, which was $9 on the menu but $10 at the counter (tax?). It's cash only. The bowl came out fast, within a few minutes, and I took it to go. There was a lot of fruit on the bowl, and it was good quality. The acai had a weird tang from the protein, but it was firm and cold. Overall, the bowl was pretty filling even though I didn't add any nut butters. Prices are lower than average for NYC for juices and smoothies, so I would try this place out again for that. read more

I was in the mood for some Asian flavor so I went with a red bean smoothie. They used actual sweetened red beans vs the powder that you find in some bubble tea spots.
