I had this place recommended to me by multiple friends, and I'm convinced that they were gaslighting me. The food was so nasty. I ordered the chiles rellenos (stuffed peppers)with chicken. The chicken was missing, the peppers were tasteless and contained little to no cheese, and the rice and beans tasted expired. The tortillas were rock hard and tasted like wax. The employee also overcharged us... The meal was $14 and we ordered 2 $4 drinks. She rang that up as $28, and wouldn't give an itemized receipt. Pros: The tacos were delicious, and the salsa bar was nice! The food was super tasty, and the tortillas are fresh (we saw them making them to order). The cons: The server was on their phone the phone time, and was conversing as we were trying to order, and then also later pay for our food. There was also a roach on the floor when we walked in.... We were excited to try Julia's. The food was authentic and quite tasty! We did not leave hungry. I wish I could give it 4 stars, but there were some distractions. First our meals did not arrive at the same time, so to prevent the food from getting cold my husband had to start eating ahead of me. Second, there was no cheese dip or chips. I ordered the tilapia and it was served with: five house made tortillas, beans, rice, sour cream, mixed lettuce, and chips! They have a salsa bar with all of the side items that let you know you have found an authentic Mexican spot. Including but not limited to: radish, cilantro, salsa verde, salsa mole, pickled peppers, pickled cabbage, and onions. The most amazing tacos I've had since moving to Atlanta from SF. I was so happy after 3 tacos (barbacoa, pastor, carne asada), a side of beans and rice and half a steak torta that I almost didn't want to tell the world about Julia's. It was a well-kept secret that I wanted to keep to myself but ... no ... Y'all need to try this for yourself to understand. The salsas were spicy and flavorful and the pickled peppers and onions and cilantro were awesome on my carne asada taco. Say no more to Moe's, goodbye to Willy's - the food at Juila's (IMHO) is among the best Mexican food I've had in a long, long time. Today was my first time ever having sopas, I ordered the Lengua (beef tongue). I received the Carne Asada ( steak) instead, regardless of the miss up it was delicious. They were topped with beans, protein, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese and creama.. on an airy crispy cloud. Being a spice lover of course I had to try all the home made hot sauce at their "salad bar." Delicious street food that is as homemade as you can get. Fresh tortillas done as you eat and the owner is there joking with you and offering anything you might need as salsa or drinks. However I give it a 4/5 because the prices are somewhat unreliable. While there might be a menu (people usually order what's special and things like tacos or quesadillas) the owner might think of a price depending on how you look. You really don't know what might be 10 dollar meal could go to 7 or 14. The food is great and I'm willing to bargain with the price. I go regularly and recommend it for folks! read more

I've never had a bad meal at Julia's. The tortillas are made fresh, so no crappy bagged tortillas. Standouts: pastor, lengua, tripe...and the best soup I've had in years is their pozole. Their huaraches are huge and fantastic. The tacos are great. Never had their menudo, but it's a huge seller on Sundays. You won't walk away hungry after eat at Julia's. Disregard any notions of bad service. It's a taqueria crankin' out food quickly. Every restaurant has good days and bad days, but for taqueria food, we're very fortunate as Julia's rivals a lot of what I've had in LA, San Fran, San Diego and Chicago. And, if you live in Marietta, there's no need to go to Buford Highway for taqueria food. I've yet to find a Buford/Doraville restaurant that is as good as Julia's. One solid secret though in the Marietta/Smyrna area: do a bang-bang and eat at Julia's, then try La Duranguense on Pat Mell for the best gorditas in Atlanta. read more

Went in the other day during the evening, the waitress clearly saw us sit down, walked by a couple times and ignored us. Never once came over to get drink orders or anything. So we walked out. I feel like one rich bitch when I eat at Julia's. This place isn't tex mex and it can seem a little intimidating if you're a white bread gringo but take one bite of a torta with pastor and you'll be back. You can get cheaper tacos here than you would at taco bell and they've got 100% less oats and spider meat. They're street tacos so you just get the meat you ordered on a freshly made tortilla, but they're so good and have a cart full of toppings to dress them with. Bonus: There is a metro pcs store attached to the kitchen so if you need a shit phone you can kill two birds with one stone amigo. read more

Saying that this is a small hole in a wall restaurant is no exaggeration, as it shares the same room as a metro PCS store. I ordered 3 tacos: Shredded beef, steak, and Mexican sausage. I ordered three thinking that portion sizes would be similar to that of Taqueria Del Sol, but I was pleasantly surprised by the large sizes of these tacos. I can usually down 4 tacos from Taqueria Del Sol, but I was satisfied by the time I finished my second taco from Julias! The tacos here are made with corn tortillas and with a generous helping of fresh cut onions and cilantro. The tacos were made fresh, and the meats were all very tender. What really makes Julia's Taqueria stand out, is not only the high quality of its food but also the price! I used to love Julia's until this happened. The guy that works the register was in the open kitchen washing raw whole chickens in a colander. I asked him for my check as the raw chicken water is dripping all over his apron and floor from the bottom of the colander. He then "washes" his hands with water only, no soap. I'm a chef myself so I was terrified by this. He then took my credit card from my hands to charge me and when he gave it back it had all that raw chicken stuff all over it. I had to go to the bathroom to wash it. I told a lady that works there that this man is going to kill somebody with his horrible sanitation practices but she didn't seem to care. Julia's is one of my favorite (lesser known) restaurants. The food is so good! I love their tacos, especially since the tortillas are made fresh right in front of you. They have great lunch specials and the tortas are delicious. One of my favorite things about Julia's is the salsa bar in the back - however... I do have to warn you... some of the condiments are made with Habanero peppers that look like bell peppers chopped up. read more

This is an authentic Mexican Restuarant! The tortialls are hand-made, you can see them being made! The staff is friendly and all speak spanish, this is a great place to practicey your spanish:-) The portions are large, the sauces and marinated vegatables are delish, the caramel flan here is very good! I make a mean caramel flan so this is a high compliment. I had the Chiles Rellenos, the Burritos, the Enchiladas, all authentic and delish. The prices are reasonable. I went here based on the previous reviews. I was not disappointed. Appearance: This place is not fancy like El Nopal. It is a small family owned restaurant. It is somewhat run down, but don't let the looks fool you. I sat at the counter (with the Metro PCS counter across the hall behind me) to watch the folks in the kitchen. Food: I watched a woman grab balls of dough, press them flat and throw them on the griddle for the freshest corn torillas you can get. Then the cook went over to a warming table to fill my torillas with steak, onions and cilantro. I only ordered 2 of the $1.85 tacos, but I was filled up (I could have eaten 3, but then I'd have been miserable). The steak was tender and pretty good (although not as good as the steak from the El Don Food Truck). While I ate, I watched them prepare food for the other diners. I was amazed at the size of the plates going out. Pretty much double the amount of food as at your traditional Mexican Restaurants like El Nopal...for very reasonable prices.
