I had a good experience eating eating dinner here yesterday. This is an awesome spot for authentic Mexican food. I'm assuming it's locally owned- gotta love that it's a small business and not a big corporate chain. The food was great! Came out fairly quick. I love that they have a salsa and toppings bar. I will say that I can't really deal with spicy foods and the salsas were all pretty hot, but I understand that's probably how most people like them to be. The workers were courteous and there was parking available. I'm very pleased with the seating area, a lot of really good spots like this are mostly takeout only. Ugh this place is just incredible. The tacos are on the smaller side (which means that unfortunately I can eat at least 4 of them) and served on a double tortilla. Our food came out really quickly! I liked the flavor of both the pastor and the barbacoa, but be aware that both are pretty greasy. The shrimp taco is plain but still has really great taste. The salsa bar is wonderful, I recommend one of the green salsas if you are a spicy food wimp like I am; plenty of limes here, too. Can't wait for my next visit. read more

Very clean environment. They actually keep their hand sanitizer full at the door & it doesn't have that awful smell that some sanitizer has. Love the variety of condiments at salsa bar. The cashier was very pleasant, and polite. Reasonable amount of seating, parking is offered. I ordered two pork tamales, and one birria taco. The food was so good. We came here on a Saturday around 2pm for a late lunch. The place was packed, but the line to order was not that long. We placed our order and the waiting began. People were getting called left and right before me and I have no doubt the order was correct. This place is that good and the orders ahead of me were probably phoned in. About 35 minutes later, we got our food. We had to get the order to go because it took so long. That said, my tacos were amazing after the 15 minutes I waited to eat it. They kept and the meat (carne asada and pastor) was nice and crunchy, the way I like. My kids also thoroughly enjoyed their nachos, which was a large portion with lots of meat. The price was right and next time, I will be sure to call in my order! read more

In a sea of authentic Mexican spots located up and down South Cobb Drive, El Guero seems to stand out with nothing more than being 100% authentic in variety, quality, taste and price! Located on South Cobb Drive about half way between Concord and Windy Hill sits Taqueria El Guero. Housed in what I assume was a Waffle House style diner of some variety back in the day, El Guero has a charm about it - nothing fancy here, just good authentic food at solid prices served by friendly folks. While I have eaten inside once, my normal is to grab take-out. Even on busy days, I am never waiting more than 15 minutes. Even if I had to, I would be good, as they cook to order. Everything hits the flat top once ordered, so I don't mind waiting when I can see it coming out of the cooler and hitting the flat top before hitting my plate. As mentioned, El Guero is nothing fancy in décor or layout. There is one entry door that puts you in the dining room, upon entry head to the right where the counter is. The menus are displayed on the counter and above the register. Once you order you can have a seat or wait around the register, however the second option is less appealing as its a pretty small spot at the register area, so normally I head into the dining area to hang out. Enough about the building, let's talk food! While I still have a long way to go to get through the menu, I have identified a few favorites so far! First being the nachos...on paper these seem like your normal nachos, but oh no...they are much much more! Per normal, they pack the plate with chips and then they equally pack the chips with all the goods so you could easily get a topping on every single chip on your plate! The Nachos El Guero feature your choice of meat, mine is always the Barbacoa. In addition to the protein they pile beans, cheese, sour cream, jalapenos and onions on top. The nachos easily 2 pounds, no joke...they are the heaviest and most filling nachos I have ever had and they only run around $10.00, depending on your protein choice! In addition to the nachos, I absolutely love the chorizo taco. It's perfectly cooked and seasoned chorizo laid out on a couple of corn tortilla's sprinkled with white onions and cilantro, sided with a lime to squeeze before devouring. Another favorite is the fajita quesadilla. We normally get the chicken, but you can add whatever meat you want and believe me they have plenty of choices, 13 to be exact! In addition to the chicken they pack the veggies, peppers and onions, and cheese in the tortilla and crisp it up to perfection on the flat top. In addition to the entrees mentioned, we do on occasion treat ourselves to their cheese dip. While it is some of the priciest at $6.49 per bowl, it also happens to be some of the best we have ever had! One thing that El Guero has above everyone else around here is the quality, in addition to being fresh, all of the dishes are plentiful in size! We legit make a couple of meals out of most things here. Overall, El Guero is my absolute go-to and favorite spot in Smyrna for solid, authentic, tasty, well priced and plentiful food. You don't have to wonder if I will be back here, I am pretty sure that by the you read this I will have visited at least two more times! read more

I had a remarkable hunger for some tacos yesterday for lunch and Birria El Gordo was closed. I found this spot close by. I ordered takeout. They didn't have what I originally wanted so I ordered four beef tacos with chips and queso. Everything was good. The taco shells were a little bit tough/stale. My tacos were lukewarm. I enjoyed the flavor. There was quick turn around on the food, however. There is ample marking in the private lot. read more

I love this place! El Guerra has an extensive and interesting menu. Even their child's chicken plate is amazing for it flavor, portion and value. The tamales (we love the pork ones and the chicken ones) and the Pasteur burrito (a marinated pork version)---and the size of their burritos are astonishing. The food is super fresh and authentic and the patrons are mostly of Hispanic descent which o take as a GOOD SIGN of GREAT FOOD. Also --checkout their seafood soup . I was acknowledged and greeted as soon as I walked into the restaurant. I knew exactly what I wanted right away..... nachos, even though the quesadilla were whispering my name, I went ahead with the nachos, but I will try the chicken quesadillas on my next visit. The owners son is the Man with the Plan, he made my visit a pleasant one. He was very polite and he made the best steak nachos I've ever had, and did not skip on the main course: The Steak! The food was good and plentiful, loaded with cheese, grilled onions and beans. I asked them to add jalapeño. I couldn't seem to make my way to the bottom of the plate ( check the picture) but you best believe I gave it my best shot! LOL. You can't go wrong with this place, they have a very clean salsa bar loaded with an array of toppings. I'm from San Diego - so I'm a real Mexican food snob. I've been VERY hesistant to bother with Mex places in ATL, but after moving to the Smyrna area recently, I decided to give this place a try. The first hint that something good was going on was the customers - I was the only gringo in the house. That's *always* a good sign. The food I got was really good, and I've been back a few more times since. My favorite (thus far) is the Al Pastore tacos. Wow - so good. A good buddy tells me I need to try the flautas - and so I shall, next time. In short, this is a legit place to get legit Mexican food. No ground beef tacos in hard shells here!!! read more

Sooo I really hate to do this but I think people should be aware. I came here on a Sunday and it was pretty packed. I was in line behind about 3-4 people. No big deal. I ordered 3 tacos and rice which was pretty decent price. That's about where the good stops. The bad part was that I waited nearly 30-40 minutes for 3 tacos and rice. That's kind of ridiculous. The worst part about this experience, I noticed several bugs crawling around the establishment. Including a dead, squished one in the restroom. Their health score is posted and I believe it was around 85 or so, but just be mindful of this when you go to this establishment. Too many taco places in Cobb with good scores. I've gotten takeout from here twice and both times the food was great. I called ahead of time and was given an estimate of how long it would take. Each time when I arrived the food was finished on time and was quickly served to me after paying. In terms of the interior, etc. everything seems generally pretty clean and orderly so no complaints there. The only issue I had was that the menu board didn't have prices listed so I imagine it would be kind of inconvenient asking prices for everything when ordering at the store. Each time I ordered a couple of tortas (pastor, barbacoa, and chicken). Overall, all of them were delicious. Portion size was generous without being too much and each had a good variety of fresh ingredients (avocado, lettuce, etc.). I will say that usually I don't order chicken anything at Mexican places, but I tried it on a recommendation and the chicken here is cooked and seasoned very well. Probably the best chicken torta I've had for what it's worth. The pastor and barbacoa tortas were excellent as well though. My only complaint was that the barbacoa meat made my bread a bit too soggy. Although good, I probably wouldn't order it again on a torta for that reason. This place definitely is worth checking out. read more

Had El Guero delivered for dinner; one look over the menu and I knew this place was legit (tongue, head, maw and tripe tacos are my gauge for authenticity -- El Guero has it all)! I ordered the chicken burrito, my company ordered the veggie burrito. Both were great -- densely packed with fresh ingredients, cut in half and wrapped in foil. For such a massive burrito, this was the right approach. With our burritos, we had rice and beans and a side of pico. If I am honest, we didn't touch the sides because of how full we are from the burritos (and, we only made it though half). It wasn't super messy or overly done up, it was just right and really hit the spot! I knocked off a star because there was no way/place to order chips and salsa. This was a little bit of a bummer, so I felt it necessary. Next time, I will order something that require chips! Other than that, bang up job with killer food.
