My daughter and I were visiting Columbus today for the first time and spent almost five hours at the huge antique mall (awesome)! We wanted to grab a quick, but non-fast food, lunch before heading back out of town and stopped in at Julie's Java House at 12:40 pm--we checked their website as we were leaving the mall, and debated about just skipping lunch, knowing the staff were going to be closing up at 1 pm. We figured they might be cranky or annoyed with us, being anxious to clean up and close up--BUT, we were very cheerfully welcomed as soon as we walked in to place our order for grilled cheese sandwiches. The sandwiches were served fresh and hot off the grill/panini press, were generously filled with cheese and tomato slices, and the sides of chips and pickle slices were the perfect way to round out our meals! Not only were the food and service great, the cafe was super cute and very clean! Their location is right next to the Columbus Amtrak Station, so if you happen to be there when a train goes past, the place to sit is right inside the front door at the little "bar" with the stools. We were too late for the morning trains and too early for the ~2:00 one...maybe next time. :-) The owners clearly take pride in their establishment and seem to really want to give back to the people and causes that matter most to them, as evidenced by the various photos of family and friends, and certificates of recognition, displayed throughout. They also offer plenty of seating, a large parking lot, and items for sale in small-ish quantities, like homemade honeys, teas, ornaments, wooden trains, jewelry, stickers, and coasters. We feel like we discovered a gem of a restaurant to cap off our truly fun and enjoyable first (but not last!) visit to Columbus! read more

First coffee and first stop for office work this morning. I stayed for about an hour. Drip coffee was good stuff. With it, a small muffin that was tasty. Snack and coffee were good. Ambiance not memorable in lieu of being treated as a total inconvenience to the shopkeeper having lunch with her friend. She didn't smile, say hello, offer any warmth, or even say thank you for coming! I asked what kind of pastry was in the case and was told flatly to give her "a minute". There were no other customers in the cafe. I can't recall feeling less welcome in an establishment in recent history. It's a shame because I was looking forward to enjoying my snack and coffee with the view of the trains passing by; instead, I inhaled my food so I could get out of there ASAP. This is an amazing coffee shop! Very good coffee, great selection of sweet and salty snacks. They also have Wisconsin memorabilia and local products. The people there are very kind!! Customer service was lovely. They carry oat milk and almond milk and have some dairy free and gluten free options for snacks. They are reasonably priced. I got their almond milk cookies and cream latte, a special for the month of July. I also got their veggie sandwich, a chocolate chip cookie and oatmeal raisin cookie. The food was fresh and delicious. I would definitely recommend stopping here for a great cup of coffee and some snacks. read more

A quaint little coffee shop were locals go daily for their coffee chats. I brought my sister and friends in, visiting from France, and they said it was the best coffee they have had yet while in the States. I drink tea so can't comment on the coffee. But they have a scrumptious sweets case that I am dying to visit when I take a diet/no sugar break. I come for the teas. They make them any way you want them. Nice locally owned coffee cafe. Last couple times I've ordered cappuccino with no flavors because the coffee is very good and rich with nice foam. I've had a few of the baked goods as a treat on occasion as well. Not sure about food, but there are food offerings as well as catering. They also offer locally produced goods and wares. Hand sanitizer is available for use. They support local shops so there are gifts available for purchasing. Staff is very friendly and smiles are free! I love that there is a coffee shop within walking distance of my house, but I'm just underwhelmed with Julie's. The pastries and coffee are fine I guess, but the service is just...meh. The staff aren't necessarily rude, but they are far from friendly or welcoming. Every time I've gone there I've felt like I was intruding. It's a very uncomfortable atmosphere. I went here when my train was delayed because it's right next door to the station. It was great! Lots of variety for food and vegetarian options too. Good coffee and pastries. I got the grilled cheese of the month and it was delicious. Everyone I was with loved their food and drinks too. They even have books and things for sale if you need a last minute gift. read more

Although their pastries look good I kind of have a sour taste in my mouth about this place when I went to the holiday train at night and they were charging 3 and 4 dollars for a small cup of hot chocolate or cider. Not so A-OK :-( I didn't feel overly impressed with Julie's Java service or menu items. I have been in there a few times now, and I keep trying to give it another chance, but unfortunately I'm not sure when I'll go back. It's a cute little place, but I felt invisible when I walked in, and wasn't acknowledged for over 5 minutes. Employees were available, but my business there didn't seem to be a priority. For the quality of food and beverages I have had there, I should not have been charged as much as I was. I understand that small local places like that do tend to maybe charge more...but when the service and menu items are not decent, I feel disappointed in myself for having paid that much. I want to support small businesses, but I don't feel I am able to support Julie's anymore. If I'm shelling out that much money for a muffin and a latte, then please appreciate my business at least...don't make me feel like an inconvenience. read more
