Oh Lord - I here so I start. On the plus side, this restaurant has some beautiful views and their waitstaff are very pleasant. I ordered eggs Benedict and the yolk of my egg was hard boiled. The hash browns were NOT fresh but instead it seemed as if they were maybe left over from the day before frozen and re-cooked. They were not crispy. My husband said that his eggs were over done and the bacon sucked. All-in-all, I do not recommend this restaurant at all. Save your money people read more

Again like Kroll's, dated atmosphere. 2 stars for the food, 0 for the restaurant itself. Decent food, but for the variety on the menu, it doesn't match the establishment. Update the carpet, paint, and seating materials, clean the waterfall (thing) outside and get rid of the white bucket in the water by the walkway, you may have a fancy steakhouse environment. This? This is essentially a Denny's or a Diner-variety of food that can be in a not-so-huge building. The mis-match in lighting is also a bit....yeah. Other than that, the breakfasts are somewhat decent if you can get it hot (with the exception of the eggs, and has browns being significantly different in temperature which means the eggs sat waiting and became cold... line cook 101 people...) and it's reflective of being a sub-par diner. Even the diner's breakfast next to me came out with steam coming off the food (same as what I ordered), and mine was luke-warm. Not anything to write home about at all. And when you come here, pay with cash unless you want to get charged 4%. Evidently a lot of 2 and 3 star restaurants use that tactic due to lack of CC sales....or business. read more

I come here from time to time because their service is so quick and you know you will get a decent breakfast with a lot of options as they have a huge menu. Lately I have a love of their Mexican omelet option as it is like eating a taco but for breakfast. You get the omelet with a choice of toast, pancake or muffins. I always get toast to eat with my meal. The meal quality is your normal diner affair don't expect anything fancy or elevated here. I love the view at this place as you can sit and watch the birds out the window. I will say over the last couple years the place is looking a little run down with some of the booths dirty and not well organized. I will always come back for my greasy breakfast needs. read more

Ordered the veggie omelet but it came out with bacon and mushrooms I didn't ask for (I do not eat meat). I sent it back and to my surprise it came out with bacon yet again, it was clearly on the plate itself so not sure how the server glanced over that. Sent it back for a second time and the third omelet still had a few bits of bacon. I picked them out and dealt with it as I was quite hungry. As a person in the serving industry, my manager would not only be taking the meal off the bill but bringing it out themselves to ensure satisfaction. Disappointing visit. I am going to give Julie's café two stars because it was busy when we first arrived but it seem to clear out quickly. We waited for over an hour for two sandwiches and a kids grilled cheese. Our server was very kind and was apologetic when things didn't go well or when she forgot to bring my husband's soda and the refills. They did comp his meal because of The mistake they made which was a good thing because I wouldn't have paid for it anyway. He ordered patty melt and french fries with a special request for sourdough or just plain white bread. To start off, the prices have increased and the portion sizes have decreased. Our meals were both nine dollars, which is a ridiculous price for what we received. Their first attempt at my husband's patty melt came with rye bread, over cooked french fries, and un-melted cheese on the sandwich. The sandwich had about five small pieces of onion on it and they were not even grilled. They later brought out a sourdough patty melt as requested, cheese was beginning to melt, which was a good sign :-), under cooked french fries on this one and Again non-grilled onions. The kids GRILLED cheese was not grilled at all. all and the two slices of imitation cheese never melted. My Reuben melt, although the menu said a generous portion of corned beef, was about an inch and a half thick. That one and a half inches included the sauerkraut, cheese, meat, sauce and two pieces of bread. Let me tell you this... 1.5 inches is me being very generous!! The french fry portion was small as well especially my sweet potato fries. The server was apologetic and let us know that the kitchen was backed up with online orders. I also saw a sign by the register saying that they are hiring for multiple positions. Are usually try to be understanding when restaurants are short staffed but I think it would do this café well to remember that the patrons in the restaurant are just as important as the ones ordering to go. We had to entertain a two-year-oldUnfortunately, because of the slow service, his food arrived 10 minutes before his appointment time. He was getting up to leave when they put his food on the table... And then they had to fix it. We also had to entertain a hungry two-year-old for over an hour. No crackers were offered, no crayons, didn't offer to change the TV channel from news to a cartoon. Nothing! No consideration at all. If I ever go there again it will be for the soup only, that should be able to just be scooped out of a pot and put in front of me. I would hope the kitchen staff could get that right. The two eggs must have been robin eggs, since I could lift the (two eggs) on my fork. After not getting what I paid for, I went home and made a real breakfast. Basically, I gave Julie's money for water, one piece of toast, and a fork full of eggs, and a couple ounces of bland potatoes. Julie's also claimed the breakfast came with homemade jelly, which we never received. I would have been happier with a McDonald's egg McMuffin. read more

We came here last Sunday morning, looking for a place that wasn't suffering from the post church crunch crowd. Luckily, they had seats available and we didn't have to venture to another place (we had been driving around). Overall the place looked like a supper club -- big open space in the middle with wide windows to look out of. The scenery outside was pretty, overlooking a pond with birds. They even had what looked like a makeshift hen house, but it was for the peacocks they had. It was entertaining. I ordered a bloody Mary, which was only $4.50 as advertised. It wasn't bad, nothing special about it but wasn't the worst. Unfortunately you weren't given a beer chaser which I would have enjoyed. For food, I ordered the Bird's Nest, which is a nest of cooked hash browns, onions, peppers, mushrooms and cheese with two eggs done your way on top, toast comes on the side. It was good, especially the hash browns which were pretty crispy and held the veggies perfectly. My girlfriend had ordered the eggs Benedict and her only complaint would be the eggs were overcooked making the yoke overcooked and not gooey. But she still ate it and enjoyed it. Waitstaff was attentive to us, despite getting busier. They made sure we had everything and they were on top of their game when bringing things out to us. We've had good food here every time we've ordered. We've done mostly to go orders but ate in once and loved the scenery outside the windows. The waitress seemed to be a bit overwhelmed but there weren't many people inside. She was a bit abrupt at first but warmed up to us eventually. Quality food for a great price. Been there twice for lunch in last 2 weeks. Liver and onions and bacon, mash potatoes & gravy, carrots, buns fresh, and the entire lunch was piping hot and delicious both times. Beer was cold. Everything undercooked on both orders, browns have changed, local jams gone, normal muffin tops gone, the normal peacocks outside gone, and to top it off running to the restroom multiple times after leaving. I love Julie's Cafe and always send people their way. Today we went in for a quick breakfast and after an hour of waiting for our food I asked to get it to go since I had to work. The waitress said she forgot to put our order in. We saw people walking out and angry cause they weren't getting their food. As a service worker I get it can be overwhelming, but I have no idea what the deal was but they lost business because of her attitude, poor waitressing skills and questionably being drunk. I stopped in here for breakfast on a Friday and it was so pleasant. It was fairly empty at first but the tables steadily filled up and it's definitely because of the good food and service. The view outside from the giant windows was beautiful; frozen over pond but it was warm enough they had the fountain going. Anyway, to the meat. I always have been and always will be on the search for amazing Eggs Benedict. I have definitely set an usually high bar for what is my favorite breakfast dish, but Julie's was able to meet it and exceed it! The food here is really quality and tasty and BIG. I had the breakfast burrito and a chocolate shake. The burrito definitely gave me a stomach ache - some of the ingredients clearly weren't fresh, and you can tell the majority of the ingredients are processed/from a can... I mean, it's the crappy Perkins-esque diner you can stomach every once and while, but definitely not regularly and not something you recommend to others. The only reason this is 3/3 and not 2/3 is because the price is CHEAP. It's hard to find these prices anywhere else, but you have to understand you're getting what you pay for - for drinks, appetizers, and dinner for 2 it was about exactly $20. It's really hard for me to knock Julie's food down when the prices are so dang reasonable. I mean what can I say? It's edible. Sorta. Anyways, it seems to be a hit-or-miss. They have a huge menu that has everything on it from fish-fry to frybread tacos, lots of opportunity there to do great or do horrible. I will say this though, holy wow is the place dirty. D-I-R-T-Y. The food tasted like shit. Everything smelled like shit. The chicken tenders that we ordered tasted like chemicals, our waitress either couldn't speak, Or didn't know how to use her vocal cords to project her voice to an audience or a group of people. I witness to employees get into a physical altercation while entering the restroom, during the physical altercation I was told I would need to wait for the boxes and my bill. The ketchup was almost like a loose stool, chunky and wet. there was definitely a fat Lougee floating in one of our orange juices. overall the experience was dog shit. read more

There are also peacocks. It was frustrating though as they did not have enough high chairs for children, so we had to wait quite a while for one. I have ordered many times through Julie's website for delivery. Love that they have this ability and do delivery that isn't through Door Dash, Uber Eats, etc. The last 2 orders that I made were both wrong. The first one we just let it go and didn't complain. The 2nd one though, we have food that we ordered and did not receive. When I called them back, I asked them if they had my order and wanted to ensure everything was correct, so I went over the full order on the phone. It was a meatlover's skillet and a meatlover's breakfast. When the food was delivered, we got 2 of the 3 meals and one was completely incorrect. The other was missing. When I called back and verified that the meatlover's skillet was missing, Julie's did say they were going to remake and deliver the order ASAP. The food came and it was STILL wrong. Anna, the delivery person offered us a free pie. It was Lemon Meringue and it was liquid inside and soggy. I asked for a refund on the meal because of all of the issues. Anna said she would bring it to the manager and in 2-3 days I would hear from them about my refund. 3 weeks later, I am still waiting to hear about the refund from the manager. I was ordering from them almost 2-3 times per week every week for a month and now I will no longer order food from Julie's on Velp Avenue. I may try the east side location to see if they are any better, but I do not ever complain about food delivery or orders and when I do, it's because multiple things have been done incorrectly. Dear Manager of Julie's on Velp Avenue, when Julie worked there and we were able to dine in, we were taken care of and Julie made every customer feel welcomed. I tip the delivery driver over 20% on every delivery and still do not get a correct meal or a response to an issue that was reported. I am hoping this review will have Julie's reach out to me and provide the promised refund from my last order. Every order has been almost $40 to our home for your business. We want to keep small, family owned businesses in business, but you also need to do your part. Had Julie's Catering for our wedding. We had the pasta bar. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful during the entire process. As you know weddings can be hectic and their staff took the time like professionals to overcome and huddle that the big day can cause. Highly recommend their service! Worked directly with Troy for planning. Very helpful and friendly making sure we felt like everything would be handled, then delivered with service above what was expected.
