An absolute welcome addition to our pretty sad and limited pizza scene. They've refreshed the space of 1st Ave. Pizza and it is modern, nice and clean inside. The service is top notch, they are always friendly on the phone and in person, never that usual pizza join answer "Pizza Place" with the expectation you serve them your order, you can almost hear the Julio's employees smiling thru the phone. I appreciate that. But, the food. Let me start with other stuff. The empanadas, who knew a small pizza joint would have delicious empanadas. The beef ones are outstanding, chicken were good, but the beef, delicious. The sauce that comes with them is also excellent, it's good for your pizza crust too! Last night we ordered wings, and damn, awesome wings. Another thing the town is missing, good, simple wings. Julio's has it, a little spicy though, but I love heat, so if you don't be careful. The dipping bread, pretty basic, but good, the Parmesan garlic sauce is good. The garlic knots we haven't tried because at $5 a little pricey for knots if you ask me. The pizza, it's very good. They serve real size pizza (their XL), for some reason places in this area's large are the size of most places mediums. I like real size pizza. The crust is solid, not overly salty. The toppings have always been good, they used crumbled sausage which is always the better option. The sauce is good, I think it needs just a pinch more oomph, maybe more garlic or salt? But, it is good. The buffalo chicken pie was good as well, they used shredded chicken, which my wife loves, I prefer cutlet, but it is still very good. Monday and Tuesday, two large pies for $20, that's a solid deal! They don't have online ordering, but I don't fault them for that it's a small operation. Ate 2 slices of pizza here so far and i liked it. I got the mushroom and the one with peppers, onion and mushrooms. Bought other flavors to bring home as well. The dough is thin and crispy. It's not chewy. The toppings are very simple and the menu is very straightforward. Nothing too extensive. Just a simple, affordable and good pizza. I had better but they are pretty decent for what it is. They do have something different which has pickles in it. I wasn't that brave to try it but maybe next time? Overall: Julios serves a mild, "refined" pizza; they seem to use higher quality, fresh ingredients. We have ordered their largest pizza three times for takeout--each one different. The toppings and crust marry well. All the pies we ordered were balanced, and not "loud" if that makes sense. Crust: can vary a little--would describe as nicely thin, dark and toasty. PRO: the best crust around for me, as this crust is not overly salted or sodium enriched like most pizza crusts i have encountered locally. Don't change it! Toppings: All combos were delicious and mild. The garlic was fresh, not bitter, and there was enough of it--not too much. Their toppings are applied judiciously. (They don't use alot of italian spices--you can ask for them I am sure.) Not a highly oiled top either...Again, ask for more if you want...The mozzarella melted into a creaminess--not rubbery and oily. We love Pomodoro Rosso pizza as well. We go here pretty often now. I like the food and they are super friendly. They seemed to have issues with the oven as sometimes it was coming out burnt, but over the past month it seems that they have this issue resolved and now every pie has been good. Heard so much about this place. How once the dough is gone pizza is done. So we trekked out early to finally get some pizza. Saw they had a NY thin pizza 18" $15, we added half pepperoni. Waiting for our pizza I noticed how well the staff worked together as the orders were coming fast. Pizza was the best pizza I've had, Denino's, Ciro's and many others in and around NYC.
