LOL I bring my friends from Brick and Toms River here a few times a month because we have been doing a "Pizza Tour" of NJ and think The Sauce has the BEST Sicilian pie. Light and airy base and the Jersey Devil with some Mike's Hot Honey is our favorite. Gemini is another favorite and love when they "experiment" and put out new pies, crusts, etc. The sauce is sweeter than I usually like but it is delicious mixed with the other ingredients. The owner and his brother and the rest of the crew there are friendly, engaging and give really good recommendations for not only pizza......but they have other food there. LOL Must go and try it. We stumbled upon this place when hunger struck at Monmouth Racetrack and I'm glad we stopped in! It's a quaint place with indoor and outdoor seating options. There were plenty of slice options available and everything looked fresh. We pointed out the 4 slices we wanted, waited a few minutes for them to be heated, and sat at the front window area on bar style seats. We picked pepperoni, margarita, upside down hot honey pepperoni, and plain (I think ). I really liked the hot honey pepperoni, but it wasn't quite as spicy as I had hoped a bit messy. The other 3 slices were quite good too! All the employees we dealt with were pleasant and quick to tend to us. This very -very casual pizza in Oceanport Place does not disappoint. They do not take reservations and we went for the first time on a friend's recommendation. They had 3 indoor tables and some picnic tables outside and parking was easy. We ordered a famous New Jersey type of pizza "Trentonian" which I never heard of before - my dinner partners told me it was a Jersey thing ( NY'er here) and was curious to try it. We also added garlic and pepperoni for my group. We also tried the side of meatballs (3) which came with some bread. The food was delicious and as other yelpers said the crust was well done ( I do not like well done on the bottom usually ) it wasn't too well done for us. We will be back again. Enjoy. read more

Dangggggg. Just found my number one pizza spot in Jersey. Every kind of pie we got was phenomenal. Workers were even better. The young woman working the register was awesome. Explained every pie to us with a smile and good conversation. John was creating those beautiful pies! Had a great conversation with him, and he really enjoys what he does which shows itself in his pizzas. Gemini pie and the jersey devil pies take the cake! Gemini pie is loaded with sweet Mariana sauce , and the perfect amount of cheese. The crust is light but very crispy with a perfect char. Same with the jersey devil. Heavy offensive lineman feel. After checking reviews, we decided to hit The Sauce. This is clearly a local favorite as people were in and out and being warmly greeted by the staff. They have a few tables inside and a few outdoor tables. They have bottled Pepsi products and we opted to try their popular pizzas. The Gemini and The Jersey Devil. After reading the reviews, I've been wanting to come here. Daughter ordered the penne with sausage with vodka sauce and thought that the entree was nice and flavorful. She loved it. We also ordered Veggie Pie from Tier 3 which had eggplant, tomatoes, onion, broccoli, spinach and black olives. We told them to hold the olives. Hubs loved all the toppings and we thought the crust was nice. He thought that the tomato sauce could definitely use some garlic. Overall, it was a good pizza. Usually, when we order a pie with veggies on it, the crust would be soggy. But, this crust was still nice and crispy. We were pretty happy with the pie. Service was friendly and quick. Place is small and only have a couple of small tables. They do mostly takeouts. I'm glad we managed to snag a table, though. Will definitely return to try other items on the menu. read more

I wasn't expecting such attentive and thoughtful service from this ocean side hole in the wall, but by the time I left I'd marked The Sauce Pizzeria as a must stop destination any time I'm hitting up the Jersey shore. For example, the cook could tell that we could handle real spice, so when we ordered a Spicy Diablo he said "If you want I'll make half of it with even more spice than what's on the menu". Boy did that spice deliver. It was the perfect way to warm up after coming in from the chilly beach. On a Detroit style pie, the Spicy Diablo has the perfect blend of sweet and spicy. If you are looking for sweet, get the "Gemini" pie. Don't be alarmed, it's not as sweet as dessert, but like biting into a fresh cherry tomato. It really works! Best part was that the owner says "I made your cheese pizza a little well done, so I'll give you another pie on the house". Just goes to show what an honest business it is, and I'm happy to remain a loyal customer for their kindness and generosity. The margarita was really interesting: the bottom was crusted with sesame seeds, which added a great flavor to the dish overall. I've never experienced this before. It's amazing to see a small pizza shop making some bold choices and redefining what a pizza can be, while still maintaining strong roots in traditional flavors. Stopped in for slices. The plain slices were excellent (pie just came out of oven). The specialty slices are too expensive IMO at over $5/slice, although the Jersey devil square was very good. The taste itself was pretty average, maybe slightly above but nothing I'd go out of my way and pay for, which means it's below a 7. I asked for it well done but it was still a little floppy in the middle. It was too oily and messy of an eat, and I had to uncomfortably power through it. The Sauce, Crust and Cheese was just amazing, they put a circle of pesto around the pie and WOW! What flavor!! My Wife had the Chicken Parm. The workers are very nice and polite they always make sure to make the slices fresh and the best.

The pizza is very good there but It's very annoying because they always run out of slices. This has happened 3 times to me. Today I just called on a Thursday night at 5:45 and they had no slices left and they're always just trying to push their personal pizza at 5:45. Why don't you just throw another pizza in the oven because I'm sure you'll sell the slices by the time you close and if even if you only sell 1/2 the slices I'm sure it will more than cover your cost. A chef friend recently brought 'Sauce' to my attention. I'll always try a plain slice first and it was pretty good. Stopped in a couple of times doing same and really liking it. Finally got a fresh pie last Friday night. Called it in as I picked up my son from the SeaStreak ferry. 45 minute to an hour wait. It's not a 45 minute drive back to Oakhurst, so I figure I'd check in, knowing that I was early and telling the counter person of same. It really is that busy, and that's for a reason. Decided there was no reason to drive home and then back, so my son and I just talked for the next 20 minutes. Meanwhile there's a constant stream of cars picking up their food. For a good reason too. I will always ask that they not slice it as it's going to be slid into a 450* oven back at the house for 3-4 minutes depending upon crust thickness. This is ONE EXCELLENT PIE! Grabbed some pie's after my daughters soccer games right down the street. First, the owner was awesome, gave us 3 slices for free to try while our order was wrapping up (the jersey devil/the upside down/and the vodka). All three were delicious. We grabbed buffalo chicken and a gemini square pie. Both were delicious but the Gemini pie is one of the best tasting pizza's i have ever eaten.
