I love Asian food so a good buffet is always tops on my list. This place is good, but not great. The name implies there would be a number of choices, but I felt limited just a little. There were a few sushi options, but I enjoyed them immensely. Surprisingly, the highlight of the buffet was the bar-b-que wings. I'd go back just for those. The Dim Sum was better than most buffets. I ate here yesterday for a quick bite and as soon as me and my two friends entered the store we started being racially profiled. the two/three woman stared at us the whole time we ate and every time we went to the buffet table, they listened to our conversation the whole time (everytime we said something on our plate was nasty they came behind us and took the plate), when my two friends left to go to the buffet she came up to me to ask how will we be paying for this meal when we were only there for 15 minutes then went back to her coworker and continued to stare at us while we eat, and then to top it off, when it was time for us to leave one of my friends headed to the front to pay (LIKE YOURE SUPPOSED TO DO) and as soon as me and my friend got our money out to head to the front one, of the ignorant women came up quick and snatched my card and my friends cash out of our hand and started rushing towards the back so she can do the transaction herself on the back register and then came back up to us with my card and my friends change and stared at us as if we were gonna give her a tip after the disrespect that took place. on top of that the food was a solid 5/10 and that's honestly me being generous because i was hungry. and then the "hot food" was lukewarm basically. the lack of hospitatlity and the disrespect towards customers of color on top of the somewhat nasty food makes me take this place as a joke and so should you. After a long debate if I'm going back or not, I decided to give them another chance. Came here with my son, he didn't want to eat anything, so we got 2 waters and of course I eat as we chatted away. He decided to get 3 mussels off of my plate, just "3" and that's all he eat. Then I told him to go and get a ice cream, since I'm already paying for myself anyways. Fairly typical Chinese buffet fare, but everything is fresh and hot. They do also have a sushi bar with decent sushi as well as a dessert bar and a small section with pizza,etc. One nice option is the to-go buffet, but because they weigh by the pound, the other day my to-go box cost more than if I'd stayed and eaten. I think it should be $7.99 (lunch buffet price) for however much you can put on the to-go containers. Especially if you add things like mussels to your plate, that's a lot of weight you aren't eating, and all you can eat shouldn't be cheaper than a limited amount. read more

Let me start off by saying, Chinese food is my comfort food for as long as I can remember. When I spent 6 weeks in China and 2 weeks in Taiwan, I was in heaven. I do not want to say I am an expert on Chinese food, but I do have a good idea of what authentic and what Americanized Chinese food is. When I walked in, I was blown away by the size of the buffet stations. Then I realized that there was a mirror wall that made the buffet about 2 times bigger than it actually was. I deflated a little bit, but the buffet was still pretty large. Several different styles of food are offered from Japanese Sushi, to Mongolian BBQ, to Chinese, to good old fried American food. Filling my plate, I went for my regulars and went back to my table. My drinks were waiting for me when I got back, but the server did not make any eye contact with me when ordering. That bothers me a bit since I am paying customer. I know it is a buffet, but a smile and a hello can go a long way. The food was mediocre. The fried was wasn't even fried. It was basically Mexican Yellow Rice with some vegetables and egg in it. I would be surprised if the rice ever hit the frying pan. The chicken dishes were what I expected. Nothing special. The soup was too hot that I was in the process of burning my hand on the soup ladle when pouring. I would not dare touch Sushi on a Sunday, so I will not comment on that. The decor was out of a 1980's catering hall that got stuck in the 1980s. All the windows had their blinds drawn and the lighting was inadequate. It was rather depressing. When I paid for my bill, one of the servers at the counter was tipping out. When I used to work at a restaurant back in my bachelor days, we were always taught not to tip out in front of customers. He was doing this while I was trying to pay my bill and did not even acknowledge my presence and did not move out of the way as I was reaching for a pen. I am torn between a 3 and 4 star review here. Most buffets strive for consistent mediocrity, which Jumbo easily achieves. It is probably the best Chinese buffet in Louisville. The decor and atmosphere leave a lot to be desired, as do most restaurants of this type. It felt very dark and run down inside. I ate mostly seafood including crawfish and salt and pepper shrimp. Both were really tasty and I didn't get sick which is always a plus. I was disappointed to see a lot of empty pans and nobody refilling them. I'm going to be completely honest, I used to really like this place. The food was hot, fresh, continually stocked and their steamed dumplings were awesome! Now to the present. Over the last year I have attempted on four different occasions to stop in and grab a bite. However, each time I wouldn't go in due to the poor health department ratings. All four times the rating was either a C or B. This place obviously doesn't care about preparing food in a clean and sanitary way. I understand any restaurant can have a bad inspection on a particular day but to have a continuous C or B health department rating is absurd and completely unacceptable. In addition to poor health department ratings the guy with the earrings who takes your payment is rude and appears to have a pretty bad attitude. On a positive note the young lady who takes your payment is sweet and always thanks you for your business. Maybe she should deal with the public and the guy might want to clean the kitchen and bathrooms. Who knows, maybe a little cleanliness may earn them a A from the health department and get people like me back. read more

Sushi was decent quality. It was fresh and kept at a proper temperature. A lot of buffets do not think to put their sushi on ice, so you end up getting room temperature sushi, which is not ok, so I appreciated the effort displayed here. The rest of the buffet left something to be desired. I would have really like a more extensive salad bar perhaps. The salad options consisted of chopped iceberg lettuce and a bottle of ranch dressing on ice. I did try some of the fried Chinese food options, which were ok as well. The actual decor of the place is in shambles, never have I seen such a dirty rotten bathroom, the smell alone was rancid. But the walls of the place were the worst, crumbling in some areas, with brown & yellow liquid oozing from some fixtures around the rooms. Now to the food, it's bad when everything tastes the same, same gooey texture, same bland taste, things crunch where things shouldn't crunch. Please get it together. First bad sign was no rice cookers on the buffet, but rice in a steam table tray - not great. Dumplings were okay texture but chicken stuffing was super bland. Wonton soup just chicken, fried wonton strips were good, not super greasy. Food selection was decent, if seafood heavy. Even though she's wearing gloves she's still touching her mouth. Talk about Hygiene & Sanitation. Maybe the owner thinks it's ok since her worker is wearing plastic gloves. The only reason I came here was that it was right across from the theater. So there was no driving for food. I was looking for a great Chinese buffet, and I saw the ratings were good. I gave it 2 stars because I don't think it had a great selection of food, and the foods the I would normally eat were not that great. Like the honey chicken and the sesame chicken, the crab rangoon, I didn't really like it. And there was an awful smell while we were there. I actually went to the hibachi sushi restaurant on Bardstown rd the next day because I was still craving for Chinese. and yes, I did a review on them as well. Yes the buffet stays full and the food is hot, but it lacks flavor. The restaurant itself has a weird smell. I tried it once and hated it.
