Hot & Sour Soup, Sweet and Sour Pork, side of fried rice, House Special Lo Mein
    C... D.

Still our favorite local old school American-Chinese diner: tonight just got the House special lo mein and the sweet n sour pork ( side of fried rice) - hit the spot, as always , ample serving sizes/ reasonably priced ... Fast service- and big comfy booths...

I've driven by Jumbo multiple times and was always curious. After looking it up here on Yelp and seeing the pictures, I KNEW I had to try it! I decided to order delivery on a Friday night. I was a little nervous about it given the distance I live, but food got to me quickly and was still PIPING HOT! Everything was so good and I already can't wait to go back! This time to eat there, for sure. Definitely try the Mongolian Chicken if you decide to give it a shot. I can't stop thinking about it!

$9.50 Combination Special Kung Pao Chix, Egg Foo Young and Pork Fried Rice

Yes Chinatown Portland has moved to SE 82nd but just a couple miles down the road off of Johnson Creek, the Jumbo is serving inner SE and the hungry next door at W-Buffett's Precision Castparts. And every once in a while you crave an Americanized Chinese menu, the kind offering egg foo young in a combo with the chow mein or rice, and get it all done in One (plate) third portion of the plate, main entree selection. And then, Jumbo surprises with some authentic dishes not usually seen in the off-Chinatown scene: Peking Duck, sizzling oysters and scallops, salt and pepper squid, and our family fave, beef chow fun. Owner is friendly and gracious and after chatting for a while also pointed out the more authentic menu items, her favorite, the Mandarin Delight. This is one of those days, the hubby insisted on a chop suey house for Kung Pao and that's when my eyes roll...lovingly haha, and I embrace my combo plate options choosing gravy topped eggy veg foo young patty and indulge in pork (cha sui) fried rice as it's the only time I ever order it, always out of pocket book reach, way overpriced as a single entree... a matter of principle ;) It's a killer deal with Kung Pao as the last part of the combo and enough for 2 meals at $9.50! Decor is a typical old school Chinese diner with TV on in the main room booths just like stepping into grandma's living room where pink and green abounds and windows dressed with low hanging half window drapes, but bonus because she keeps her liquor cabinet full next door in the video poker room. Spread out in the darker adjoining wood paneled drawing room to host larger parties on the round tables and overflow. Not the iconic Jumbo floating restaurant of Hong Kong, but at the mouth of the sea of suburban strip malls and chain restaurants, it's worthwhile fishing this Jumbo out.

After arriving from my flight at 9:30 pm, the only restaurant open in the area was jumbo restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised by the fast Chinese food! Pros: - plenty of seating available inside at the bar and the tables - very fast service and the waitress at the counter was very friendly - the portions were very large and so cheap! Everything was less than 10$ - the egg rolls were only 1.50$ - we ordered the Thai style chow fun and it was surprisingly spicy but very flavorful! It's a popular dish here and the portion is huge! - they give plenty of meat and shrimp in their dishes! They don't skimp out! Cons: - it's a typical fast casual Chinese place, so go in with those expectations ie. Not the cleanest, dingy decor, oily and fried foods Overall if I'm back in Portland and need some late night food that's fast and cheap, I'm coming here!

One of the most neatly presented combos I've ever seen. Tasty too.

Good food with large portions. I find their food very tasty. I wish they offered vegetarian options.

I had the chicken with vegetables and asked them to make it medium spicy. It was excellent.

You can absolutely smell the fish and vinegar as soon as you walk through the door, which I think gives the place a very homey pub feel. I ordered a spiked peach Arnold Palmer, which I enjoyed (and it was pleasantly strong) and a glass of the house white, which was good for the price. Our server was very fast and attentive. To eat I got the tomato soup with a grilled cheese, which was absolutely fantastic. The soup was so creamy and flavorful, and I cannot imagine a better meal after spending all day walking outside in the rain. The fries were super crispy and I liked the batter. My partner and I shared some of their breadsticks, which were deliciously baked (fresh!) and came with a super refreshing basil crema and a nice tomato-y dip. Wonderful all. My partner ordered fish and chips, and was surprised to find that it is one large fillet of fish, not multiple pieces like you would typically expect. He said the fish was fine, but a little tough. Overall, a wonderful experience. I definitely hope to return. I highly recommend this place as a refuge during the cold winter months!

Drink was a gin n tonic cocktail mix off the menu (can't recall the name) burger was basic, just meat, cheese and veggies, the meat was on the dry side - maybe 2 / 5 stars . came with fries, the fries were ok. calamari was great, light and crunchy, not a lot of salt - 3/5 stars Vietnamese wings - these were so disappointing, they came out hot and sweaty, there was a pungent gamey smell in each bite, the bone smelled foul also, either the brine wasn't great or they didn't clean the meat. the batter wasn't crunchy, just really soggy. not a winner like the sticky crunch wings at pok pok or like any other vietnamese restaurant that serves fried drumsticks and wings. not sure what was happening with the wings here but they were horrible - 1 / 5 stars, only ate 1 of 2 because of the funky smell from inside the chicken. had nothing to do with fish sauce either. overall, beautiful on instagram, is worth a visit for drinks but the food is lacking. in a foodie City like Portland that's just sad. I guess these are appropriate for happy hour menu items.

But let's talk about the crudo. I still think about that crudo. Bright, lemony, silky olive oil - simple but done so well. We even asked our waitress if we can keep the leftover olive oil to use it with the bread we ordered lol The oysters were also fantastic. They were barbecued, which isn't something you see every day. A little drier than a raw oyster, but still full of flavor. Limited seating so be sure to call ahead of time for a reservation if need be.
