I've been coming to Chan's Steakery since 2009, and I genuinely don't understand how this place doesn't have a higher rating. The food has always been great, the portions are generous, and my absolute favorite is the Szechwan beef. Even their to-go packaging is fantastic, sturdy, reusable, and actually keeps your food in good shape. They recently remodeled, and the inside looks BEAUTIFUL. They have new menus that are shorter and much easier to understand, but thankfully it's still the same great food I've been coming back for all these years. The outdoor patio area is amazing too. But one of the things I love most about Chan's is that it feels like a neighborhood place. There are semi-regulars like me, and then there are the regular-regulars who seem to be there every day. It has that comfortable, familiar feeling that's getting harder and harder to find. And the karaoke! I haven't been in to sing in over a year, but I'm pretty sure the KJ would still recognize me and know exactly what song I'm going to pick. That's the kind of place this is. I've watched Chan's change over the years, but the things that matter haven't changed. Great food, huge portions, good people, fun karaoke, and a place that genuinely feels like part of the community. I've been coming here for 17 years for a reason. Any place that is open during the Covid time is going to get a couple stars just for finding a way to be able to serve customers. The service was very good and yet kept the distance by asking from afar and providing water and all the extras we ask for with chinese food. Chopsticks extra sauce different sauces. "This food looks pretty good" but boy was I wrong. I started going to Chan's because it was next door to my place of employment. Some nights after work, my friends and I would meet for a drink and a snack. The staff is always so nice and knows me by name now. They had a Lunar New Year celebration this weekend and it was so fun! They had a fire dancer and lion dancers. There was also a raffle that I won a couple of prizes from! The prices are very reasonable as well. They went out of their way to ensure they were able to accommodate outdoor seating during the pandemic, which made it an easy way for me to get out of the house and socialize. My boyfriend has been a regular here for forever and has brought me here a few times for karaoke. The food here is SO good! Super consistent, recently they added a pepper beef dish to their menu and I crave it on a regular basis it was so yummy. The servings are very large, my partner and I will get an entree with a side of chow mein and get an extra side of either pork fried rice or white rice and split it. Drinks are fairly priced and the bartenders are always very quick even when they're busy. The food has always come out very fast as well. Karaoke is always so fun here! The KJ is so sweet and she as well as another bartender sing occasionally and are absolutely beautiful singers. The service and staff are wonderful. Very pleasant and prompt. The Chinese food I tried however was spectacularly mediocre. Nothing I ate struck me as good enough to eat again. While they excel at bland the food is not bad or even close to unedible. The portions are generous and seem fresh and of good quality. I understand the house specialty is Ribs so I need t go back and try those. Finding good Chinese food outside of downtown Portland remains a challenge for me. I think I need to try harder. read more

Visited the bar half not the restaurant. Good beer selection and full barwas a welcome sight. I had two beers while I played a lottery machine. The guy at the bar (may have owner) couldn't have been more friendly. I was happy so far so I ordered a bit of Chinese food to eat. The BBQ pork was nicely done and the Kung Pao Chicken had good flavor with a descent heat. Some of the chicken could have been trimmed better but was still worth it. I love this place! I've only ever ordered for delivery, but a coworker and I grab the honey walnut shrimp every Saturday to split. On Christmas Eve Uber was having trouble with drivers and it took almost 2.5 hours for a driver to pick up our food.
