I've been coming back recently in the evenings to meet up with friends for game night. It's also giving me the opportunity to try the dinner menu. So many good options! Burgers, chicken sandwiches but the wings and mac and cheese are my favorite. I love that you can get just protein options if you just want a grilled chicken breast or a couple of slices of bacon. The service is always great. I really wish they would bring back the ribs that were on the restaurant week specials, I'm still dreaming about them. One of the special things they do is make their own syrups for their coffee drinks, I'm pretty sure they make their own sauces and dressings too because the house dressing is amazing. One suggestion is to get better ventilation, I smell like a fast food restaurant when I leave however they do have an outdoor patio that is really nice. read more

This was a cute bistro that had a variety of baked goods and light brunch selections. By late afternoon most of their bakery items were sold out but they still had their brunch selection. I went with the breakfast chicken chorizo burrito and kale salad with the lavender latte. The burrito was good and very large, could easily be split between two people. However, I would recommend getting some hot sauce on the side if you want a little spice. The kale salad was very refreshing, it balanced out the burrito well. I wasn't a huge fan lavender latte, the lavender flavor wasn't that strong. Overall it was a decent place for a quick bite. read more

Really great cafe in Del Ray to work and enjoy your breakfast or coffee! I ordered the maple blueberry latte and it was delish. I love that they offer housemade syrups that taste great! There's a ton of seating and wifi is available as well to work. The people who work there are nice and they have a good set up on delivering your order to your table. We've been familiar with Junction Bakery for a long time, occasionally buying baked goods here for gift baskets. This latest time, we came mid-afternoon, aware that by this time of the day there might be just slim pickins, and indeed, that's all there was. Still, we ordered a pear croissant and a almond croissant. Service was fine. Only a few tables were occupied so we were able to find a seat. The music was way too loud and offputting so we didn't have the urge to linger. Maybe the music is Junction's way of creating a faster turnaround of customers? My almond croissant looked and tasted great. It had an amazing flaky texture. The pear croissant was easy on the eyes. But but but, was it seasoned with anise? It tasted just like the pho at Pho 75. That's just an odd flavor for a baked good. I thought prices were reasonable. My recommendation is simply, come early in the day to have more baked good options. read more

Came here to meet some friends for brunch - really cool spot! You walk in and place your order before seating. They have a variety of delicious desserts (we got a carrot cake cruffin) and also full brunch menu. My hubby got gravy and biscuits, and I got a fried chicken biscuit (when back in Virginia, get the Southern food they said). I loved mine! The pickles tasted homemade and tangy, and I loved the cheddar biscuit it came on. For a drink, we shared a large lavender latte - solid but not blown away (esp for the price). It came with lettuce, tomato, pickles, a sauce and mayo. The sauces weren't distinct. I wished there was something to cut the richness. The bun was nice, warm, soft, and fresh. Brioche I suspect. The fries were hot: crispy on the outside soft in the middle. The cruffin really surprised me. I thought it would be crispy or dry but it was pillowy soft. I cut it down the middle as the instructions suggested. It had a mild flavor. I was expecting more cinnamon flavor hence the name churro. The pastry cream texture was airy and light. Super cute spot for some yummy casual bites! I had a breakfast sandwich thingy but on a super yummy biscuit. It came with sausage but I asked for bacon! It was super yummy and also came with potatoes! I had orange juice and also a hot caramel latte which was sooooooooooooooo good! If you're like my mother and think black pepper is too spicy, this is the place for you!! We went in on à lark after the farmers market. We thought the menu was pretty cool and the baked goods looked great. The lady working the register was helpful and recommended the huevos ranchero and the biscuits n gravy. We opted for a side of potatoes and a mango 'cruffin'; iced coffee and iced tea. Cost after 20% gratuity: $68. Things we liked: decor, setup and open kitchen were very cool. The mango cruffin (combo muffin/croissant) was very good - it had a mango custard inside a flaky croissant and topped with a light mango cream icing: would definitely recommend. That's where the recommendations stop. The coffee tasted old and had no real flavor. The iced tea was iced tea. The food came out in about 20 minutes (perfectly fine). The waitress was nice and when asked if they had hot sauce the options were Cholula and a vegan hot sauce. We passed on the hot sauce and the waitress said "the huevos rancheros is spicy already!' OK! (We thought) The dish comes two corn tortillas fried to the point they were tostadas. There were layers of black beans, avocado, crema, queso fresco, salsa verde pickled jalapeño and topped with a sunny side up egg. The black beans were unseasoned, the queso fresco and cream were meh, avocado is avocado. The salsa verde was bland and there were no pickled jalapeños - it did have micro greens (so I'm guessing they thought that was a suitable sub??). Between the beans, avocado, crema and queso that produced a cold mush which had no spice, flavor or salt. The salsa verde was absent - it was there, but the crema/queso/avocado worked as a team to nullify any flavor/spice if there had been any. And then the egg. I know it says sunny side up but these guys barely touched a hot surface. The egg whites were super runny. All in all, it was a cold, sloppy mess covered in snot-like eggs and micro-greens. Don't waste your money on this dish. The biscuits and gravy was a healthy serving and if you like a lot of gravy go for it, however: the gravy tasted like the base was chicken bouillon and had been sitting for a while as it had the consistency of wet cement. The biscuits were good but the sausage was non-existent. If you can get the biscuit on its own then do that - the gravy is bland and no flavor/spice. The potatoes. The potatoes were square cut and resembled the frozen ones you get at the supermarket. Flavor wise they were about the same. They were overall undercooked and under seasoned. Quick question: the biscuits came with potato's and we got an additional side of potatoes; how was the side of potatoes hot and the potatoes accompanying the biscuits and gravy cold? Weird right? But even the hot potato's were flavorless - like not even salt. We ate a few bites of each dish and pushed them aside (we finished the pastry because the pastry was dam good!). Staff kept walking by and no one did a table check or inquired why we pushed our food aside or asked if we needed anything. If you want a pastry and nothing else, go for it. Otherwise your $60+ can be better spent elsewhere. read more

My friends and I got Autumn in the tropics (this one was definitely the favorite amongst all of us), four crazy cat ladies (our least favorite), fall sangria, espresso martini and the fall gala. They were all so pretty and the bartender certainly had cool tricks to show while making them. The service is top-notch as the servers continuously asked if we needed anything and took away finished dishes in a timely manner. I heard good things about Junction Bakery and was happy to see it was in my area. The bakery has soemthing for everyone. They even have a full menu with other sweet and savory dishes. I came in just for the Cruffin on this visit but will be back to check out their menu. The Alexandria location has added some outdoor seating with a semi covered patio. When I came they were completing the renovations. The Cruffin was perfectly crispy on the outside and had a sweet but not overpowering filling on the inside. Hands down amazing treat. I love that this place as a bakery and bistro also has a bar and a variety of cocktail drinks. It is a nice vibe with good food. We got the brussel sprouts and fries as a little snack and they paired perfectly together. After a while the brussel sprouts started to taste sour but i believe it is because the pickled onions become over powering so i would recommend eating them with something else, like the fries. Our drinks are kind of basic but it was the kind of night we were looking for. Simple drinks with some grub. When we left to go to the waterfront we took a spiked coffee to go and it was just the right mix. The cashier that helped us was edwin. They were out of partly cloudy (the original ipa i wanted) and he recommended this one and let me try the other options. He was very kind and helpful when we were deciding what we wanted. Three breakfasts were delivered but lagging were a chicken sandwich and a croissant. Twenty minutes after the breakfasts were delivered the croissant came and ten minutes after that the chicken sandwich arrived. At no time did anyone come to the and explain why is was taking so long nor did anyone apologize for the delay. Then I went to pay the bill on the app and the recommended tip blew me away. If it's any indicator of how good this place is, I've been here twice in less than 24 hours. Yesterday I came for lunch with a friend and stayed until closing. I started with the Flannery Hill Sauvignon Blanc: beautifully crisp, tart, and floral with strong notes of crisp green apple. It was the perfect wine for an early autumn day. The "drunken fish" was a delectable take on fish and chips, but in sandwich form. A huge portion of crispy perfectly fried cod topped with a delightfully tangy slaw and nestled in between a chewy brioche bun that was toasted to perfection. The fries were hot, fresh, a little crispy, lightly (but well-) seasoned.... and rounded out the sandwich as only a good batch of fries can. Part of me wanted to deconstruct the sandwich to enjoy every flavor individually, but my appetite got the best of me and I absolutely devoured it. The staff were absolutely wonderful. Every single person we met was kind, polite, genuinely happy to see us, and created an exceptionally pleasant and enjoyable atmosphere. The wait staff were careful not to disrupt our ongoing conversation while bringing food to the table, removing dishes, or otherwise checking up on us.... So much so that what started as a lunch date ended with us order multiple rounds of drinks and staying until closing time. I really appreciated how attentive they were to create such an inviting and relaxing dining atmosphere. Unfortunately, I arrived too late in the day to try the cruffins (croissant + muffin), so I got up early the next morning and made my way back. I placed my order online just to make sure I got one. In addition to the caramel apple and hazelnut praline cruffin, also ordered a cheddar chive biscuit (which I ate the next day. Chewy, yummy goodness!), and a dirty chai latte (which is chai plus a shot of espresso) with almond milk. When I arrived at the cafe, it was such a beautiful morning I decided to say a while so I also ordered a side of home fried potatoes. The cruffin was everything that you would imagine a chewy delicious croissant stacked high like a muffin would be. Chewy, buttery and flaky, filled with a rich, creamy filling, topped with a healthy dollop of whipped cream and sprinkled with cinnamon sugar. That alone was worth the return trip. The dirty chai latte was the perfect way to ease my tastebuds into fall. Smooth and silky: the slight bitterness from the espresso tempered with a finish of sweet cinnamon. One of the best I had. The home fried potatoes were very good, but not served as warm as they could be. There were also a number of burnt pieces in my order which made for an relatively unpleasant chew. Not enough to keep me from getting them again, but I'll just have to make sure I pick out those bit... and ask that my order is extra hot. This neighborhood bakery and bistro is an absolute gem. I've been seeing this place for years and finally stopped by. We had the morning after bowl; huevos rancheros and churro cruffin. The morning after bowl full of hearty cheesy grits and chicken was absolutely delicious! I tried some of my husbands and found it very savory and delicious. It's definitely a lot of food, so you won't be hungry. 4/5 The huevos rancheros is a classic- however, this one was dry. There was no type of tomato sauce or any cream of any sort, making it extremely dry. The eggs were also a bit over cooked, so there was nothing adding to the texture. The flavors were okay, but not great texture wise. Wouldn't get this again. 2/5 The churro cruffin was so freaking good!!! I will have to stop myself from getting one weekly. Junction! What are you doing??? You just went from 5 stars from me to 3 stars!! I went to Junction today with a serious craving for their incredible shrimp tacos. However, Junction has a new chef AND a new menu. GONE are ALL the tacos, the Southwest Salad, AND they messed with how the turkey chili is served. No more fabulous biscuit and special jelly. It's not the same. Not the same at all. I get that restaurants change menus, but really??? A new dish called "Airline Chicken" (who ever said they loved airline food?), just doesn't hit the spot. To top it off they didn't have almond milk today for my latte. They had soy. Ugh. As someone who has to avoid dairy, almond or oat beverages work. Still a great patio. Still wonderful people. Love coming here for brunch of breakfast. They're known for their cruffins which is a hybrid of a croissant & muffin, filled with cream. To secure one, be sure to get to there early on the weekend. I love their menu. Whether you're looking for a quick bite or something a little heavier like a brunch they have you covered. Everything I've had, I loved. I.e: short stack sandwich which was very flavorful & lox bagel which is my fav! This was a quaint little spot to grab breakfast on a Monday morning. It was nice to sit down and really relax while I had a nice little breakfast sandwich. It was a bit pricey, but that's not really a factor for me because everything in this area basically is. They have condiments like ketchup and salt and pepper in a little shelf area to the right of where you order. The hash browns were made with peppers and they were nice and crispy. My Dolce De Leche iced coffee was strong and that's not bad because I got it with a shot of espresso.
