Wish this felt more local. The bowls taste frozen rather than fresh, sadly not worth the price

Oakberry Açaí was a convenient stop when I was staying in NoMad and craving an açaí bowl. Now that…read moreI no longer live in NYC, I originally planned to visit one of my old favorites, but this location was closer so I decided to give it a try. Food I built my own bowl (which actually comes in a cup) and added pistachio cream, hazelnut spread, strawberries, blueberries, gluten-free granola, and vanilla whey protein powder. The pistachio cream was the standout for me. I love pistachios and it's not a topping you see everywhere, so that was a really nice addition to my usual açaí order. One downside was the protein powder. It wasn't mixed in, which created a weird, grainy texture in parts of the bowl. If you're adding protein, I'd definitely suggest making sure they blend or mix it properly. I also wasn't a big fan of the "bowl" being served in a cup. Because everything is layered, it's harder to get that perfect bite where the açaí, fruit, granola, and toppings come together. Part of the joy of an açaí bowl is the mix of textures and flavors, and the cup format makes that a little tricky. Service The person working there was fine. Not particularly welcoming or memorable, but he got the job done. Well... aside from the protein powder situation lol. Ambiance This location is very small, so don't expect to hang out and eat inside. It's more of a quick grab-and-go spot. Price Oakberry is a bit pricier than other açaí spots. My cup came out to about $25. I did add some premium toppings, but even with those I usually spend closer to $18-$20 elsewhere. Overall, it satisfied the craving and the pistachio cream was a fun twist. If you're nearby and want something quick and refreshing, it works. Just double check that your protein gets mixed in!

There was one man working behind the counter and he was working as quickly as he could, which I appreciate, given the crowds. It was clear that there were a lot of items to customize with so I can't imagine it's an easy job. While pretty good, it's not my favorite açaí place in the city, but I appreciate their branding and mission very much! I also think that even though I got this one free, you could find better size per price, given that this was about $13 normally.
