We booked this tour after comparing with other local buggy tours and we have no regrets!
The tour included roundtrip transportation from our hotel, which was in the Mayakoba resort district. It was shared with the rest of the group also joining us in our tour so it worked out. I did have to call to confirm our pickup, but you should expect to get an email with your pickup time. Jesus and Marlene were amazing tour guides. We arrived to their lot and they gave us a brief safety spiel and had us sign the waiver info (you are insured on the roadways but once you enter the jungle portion its where the waiver applies...but based on our experience you will be fine!)
Our buggy was a 2-seated and you will have time to swap drivers if you want! We also lucked out that our buggy had bluetooth (I don't think all of them have it) so we had music while we drove, made it that much better!
You start on the main road for about 1-2mins and then go into the private area on a dirt road, which you drive on for about 20-25mins. It is definitely dusty, so the scarves/bandanas and eye goggles (with tint) definitely help! We got to the walking path to the cenote and it is a bit steep and a bunch of uneven terrain so watch your step. They ask you before you leave the lot if you want a life jacket because the cenote has a shallow area but then also a much deeper area, like the deep end of a pool. You can jump from the dock or from the cliffs in the cenote. The water was very clear and cool, so it was great to wash off the dust and cool down. I would recommend you wear your swim gear before you arrive to the tour, for men wear your swim trunks and women have your swimsuits under other clothing. There isn't anywhere to change because its a natural and private cenote.
After the cenote, you drive for another 25-mins, and we enter the local Mayan village. Just entering the village is breathtaking as you see how grateful you may have it back home since the homes you see are very small and made of materials such as tree limbs. The best part is seeing the children so happy to see you and eager to get a high five! We stop at a local market to buy pre packaged groceries that include things like pasta and other ingredients. We drive a bit further and stop where the locals are waiting for us and they come to you and select an item per family. Very humbling and makes you feel good for being apart of this tour! Jesus and Marlene explained that they started going here earlier in 2019 and soon will be buying backpacks for the children with supplies!
You make a final stop at a local house for a quick quesadilla snack before leaving back to their lot. So you do drive about 1.hrs in total in the buggy!
We got back to the lot and they arranged a separate van for us to take us directly to our hotel, so it was nice of them and ended a great day!
Use the restroom before coming because you cant use it until the end of the village visit!
