I will start by saying the food is authentic, fresh and delicious! While the quality of the food is present, I have an issue with the balance of portions compared to price. By no means do I expect catering portions for pennies, however I do expect the price to match both the quality of the food and the portion sizes and balance of sides in a dish. I promise you I am not cheap! I love food and will pay for it if its good! You'll see more of an explanation at the end of my review. On this particular day, I ordered the oxtail meal, slice of cheesecake, sweet chili wings and cucumber ginger drink via Uber Eats. They called me because they were out of the flavor cheesecake I wanted and the cucumber ginger drink. I substituted for the sorrel cheesecake (glad I did) and carrot juice. I asked for rice and peas but got white rice and because it was via Uber Eats I could not ask them to fix it before leaving the restaurant, bummer. Oxtail: I paid $19.99 for mostly a plate of white rice ($17.99 I think if you are in the restaurant). The entire pan was fill with rice. There was a small portion of salad included (my request rather than cabbage) that was placed on top of the rice and in my opinion a small portion of oxtail, I say this because most of which had little meat on the bones (I would have felt better if they were meaty). Taste: the meal was very good and fresh Sorrel cheesecake: I paid $9.99 and OMG, a slice of heaven! Instead of crust, they use rum cake and the cheesecake isn't too light or too heavy, it's just right with the perfect amount of sorrel flavors and a fresh strawberry for garnish. The only gripe I have is how thin the slice was for 10 bucks. Sweet Chili Wings: very good as well. They are "breaded" but still good. Not soggy and held up well after I reheated them in the oven the next day. Price matched portion, I believe I paid about 10 bucks for about 6 pieces. Carrot juice: $6.99 they carry the Veggie-Tarry brand and it's perfect. Not overly sweet or milky, you can taste and enjoy the carrots and spices. (The cucumber ginger I wanted was also $6.99 which I feel is high for a one serving drink and considering those ingredients are not expensive) Lastly, I found price variations depending on where you ordered from and their menu. This isn't cool at all. Customers already pay additional service and delivery fees when using delivery service such as Uber Eats, Postmates, etc. the restaurant should not up their prices so drastically on these platforms to make up for their merchant/contract fees. Consistency is key and goes a long way. In conclusion, I will eat here again because there is nothing like quality authentic food. However, I will be going in to pick up my order or finding a platform that sells their food at the same price it is in the restaurant. read more

I had 5 people with me and we all ordered fish with salad, and rice & peas. We ordered salad and it came with a complete different dressing then what we asked for at THAT point is when we were told they don't have French dressing. It is hard to wrap your head around paying as much as you would in a Michelin starred restaurant or for a cocktail at a rooftop in midtown for this level of quality and ambience. Unfortunately I would not recommend it chiefly for the food, especially when compared to the competition in the area for the same style of cuisine. This is my favorite spot currently! Some of the employees can tell you that I have ordered there countless times in just a two week span. My aunt was at Lawrence hospital and I just happened to stumble upon them on Uber eats while spending several night at Lawrence. I came with a group of 12 and we did not have a good experience here. they took sooo long for EVERYTHING... taking our drink & food orders. we waited an hour and a half for our food to come and when it did, the oxtail rasta pasta was SALTY, the snapper was UNSEASONED, and the sweet chili salmon was swimming in sauce. When we brought it up to the owner, she seemed unphased by our remarks and concerns. I truly had a positive experience at Jungle Restaurant. The restaurant itself is small, but it has an intimate feel to it. So it would be great for private parties. The spring rolls alone were nice and crunchy and has a soft center it came with sauce on the side which to me just brought it a new level the sauce was sweet and tangy but very satisfying. For my entrée I went with the oxtails with rice and cabbage. The oxtails were VERY flavorful and cooked to perfection, not too tough. The cabbage was great as well; cooked nicely enough to where it was both soft but had a bit of a crunch and too greasy. Everything was nice and fresh. We ordered plantain chips + guacamole: guac was freshly made with subtle flavoring- the plantain chips were crisp and crunchy but soft. The salmon with guac is a must. The wings- richly flavored. We also highly recommend the stewed chicken and fish for entrees. Everyone enjoyed their food. The waitress advised that there would be a wait for the entrees because everything is freshly prepared. Good thing you didn't pay for it yet..." REALLY?!? That's what you have to say after I came all this way to get no food? Integrity is key, if a mistake is made, communicate! Absolutely love the food and service! It's a small restaurant, but very cozy. There is a municipal parking lot steps away, so parking isn't an issue. I was looking forward to having brunch at this establishment. I had received mixed reviews but I was still willing to give them a shot. Firstly, the establishment is small and we had a party of 18. It was our party and 1 other table of 3. We were also given a prefix menu which included and appetizer, entree and a mimosa or red wine. They ran out of mimosa. Someone who does not drink wine asked if she could have something else. The server said its only red wine and she would have to pay for a different drink. When we asked for the manager we were informed that she was "very busy" and would be out later. Unacceptable response. In any event, the manager came out about 30 minutes later and offered something else after going back and forth with the young lady who didn't drink wine a few times. There were no napkins offered until we asked. Same with water. It took about an hour to get appetizers. Some people did not get the shrimp they ordered. We assume they ran out of the shrimp because they were served a different appetizer. At that point they took it because they didn't want to wait any longer. The entrees began to come out sporadically at about an hour and 30 mins. I ordered chicken fingers and fries for my child...no appetizer. It is smart to expedite children's orders. Her food came out after some of the entrees. My order was close to last to come out. Half the table was already done eating and the waffle was hard as if it was microwaved. I was given a dish I did not even ask for. The manager told me I ordered it, mind you there was not option on the menu for me to even ask for it, the menu was prefixe. I asked for a different piece of chicken(they only serve thigh and leg with their chicken and waffle. I wanted a breast which they do not serve). That was my only request. The leg and thigh pieces I received were boney with not much meat. The manager offered me another piece of chicken with a side of her attitude. That was enough for me. I did not want another thing. Just the check. As we are sitting waiting for food numerous people came in to place take out orders and GOT THEIR FOOD. This was extremely frustrating to say the least. The servers were very young so we could not expect too much from them. Management needed to be more of a presence given the amount of things that were going wrong. At no time did management approach to apologize for the delay or to advise us that certain things were no longer available. We had to ask for her every time. Come check on the table periodically. I worked in hospitality for years as a server and a manager and these issues are unacceptable. I will not dine here again. read more
