I'm assuming that maybe it was near closing time that the options were limited. The food portions were good, I'll give them that. I definitely asked them to pile a lot on and they did. The oxtail was good and had a decent amount, I enjoyed it for the most part. Last time my boyfriend ordered from here it took 30 mins for two plates one was oxtails and one of curry chicken. By the time he drove home (35min) drive and opened the order there was no oxtails. Audacity is at an all time high at this restaurant! Why would I be charged a $1 for jerk sauce...when jerk sauce solely exist for jerk chicken or jerk pork! Came here to feed a craving for Ackee & Saltfish. Arrived around 11:30 and breakfast was still being served. I got the Ackee & Slatfish with green banana and a side of dumplings (4). I ordered the food in a medium and it's safe to say it could be shared between two people, so the $12 charge is totally worth it for the portion given. The food was fresh & well seasoned, but it was dumplings I couldn't get enough of! They were nothing short of AMAZING. Crisp & fried golden brown. I'm getting hungry just thinking about them. I will most certainly return and will recommend the restaurant to others. P.S. Don't be turned away based on the looks of the place they are graded A and from the looks of it are clean. Long lines - I can't stress that enough - long lines -no where to park you have to circle the block a couple of times then you will finally decide to double park or park a few blocks away and walk back. I can say it was worth the wait and the walk back. It's set up like a cafeteria style - you pay on one side and you pick up your food on the other side. The food is laid out where you can look at what you are getting before you buy it. I ordered the oxtails with rice and peas and please hold the vegetables. Although nothing is wrong with the vegetables I just didn't want it. The food was really good but I wasn't surprised because I'm sure people would not be waiting on a long line if the food wasn't good. I guess there is nothing you can do about the long line except get there early and avoid going there in the middle of the day or during the late evening. They'll give you as much or as little gravy as you want. I also had the macaroni pie. It was bland and dry. Don't waste your money. My complaint about this place is the inconsistent service. I've been several times, lost count of how many times I've stopped here, mostly late lunches and late dinners. My girlfriends also frequently stop to pick up food from this location. I'm really surprised by some of the negative reviews regarding their service. In all the years I've been (at least 3) I have never experienced bad service. The service is prompt (everyone should know by now when you walk into a Jamaican establishment, you should know what you want lol) However even when I have asked questions, they were always pleasant, never rude. The food is delicious, the servings are plentiful, and the price is right. I always have leftovers, and I can eat! My memory isn't the best, but I believe a small order of fried chicken is $6. Hands down, this was the best oxtails i've tasted since being in NY. I know I said the place in Staten Island was amazing but this place, my gawd! Worth the drive! I have been going to the location on fish Ave in the Bronx for a little over 5 years. For a while the food and service was amazing. Little by little the service and quality of the food has become horrible. I went in today 11/4/2021 and the heavy set lady was very rude. I wanted two large orders of oxtails with rice and peas and I was told that I cannot get large because you don't sell large oxtails. As a paying customer I should be given the option to get the size I want and pay the price. Not be told that I cannot and then they are rude about it. I am very disappointed that the restaurant that I love to always go to has been little by little getting worse with the quality of food and the quality of service.
