(Overall: D) - For a catered event, I got to try the Mango Jalapeno Lobster Roll from The Main…read moreLobster Food Truck. While the core lobster role was pleasant with meaty and delicious lobster on a bun, I found the mango sauce to have no heat and tasted like pure sugar. Furthermore, the coleslaw tasted like it was made several days ago and lacked an element of freshness that is normally present in the cabbage. While the concept of the dish sounded particularly intriguing, I felt that there were ultimately a few too many missteps. IG: @amei.eats

Come on man! You can do better!…read more I have seen this truck parked in Forest Hills lately. Found it at the corner of 71st Avenue and Austin Street, in front of CitiBank yesterday. Searching for a light snack, I was not expecting a huge heaping pile of lobster or anything. Even so, I was somewhat disappointed at what I received. I got the Main Lobster Roll. Let's focus on what was good first. The lobster was cooked pretty well. Meat was tender and flavor profile was quite good. Also, the bread was toasty, fluffy, and with a hint of sweetness. For these reasons, I would consider trying again. However, bread to lobster ratio was poor. My pictures are deceiving because I was trying to get the best angles to make it look full. There was only about 3 ounces of lobster meat. Luke's Lobster uses 4 ounces and you can definitely tell the difference. Furthermore, there were so many pieces of the claw tips, including a giant one on top that you can see in my photos. I get it's still technically lobster, but I didn't pay to eat a sandwich full of rubber-band like substance. I want more of the sweet meaty tail or succulent claw meat. Maybe I got unlucky, but I'll have to base my review on this personal experience.

Sandwich was full of lobster claw tips. Circled in red was a large on sitting on top. Maybe I was unlucky.

The owner and chef, Ray, is very friendly and kindly explained his menu and food truck concept to me. It seems that he also does catering during the day and at night, he'll open up his food truck at 7PM. It might looked like it's closed because the truck is parked at a slant so keep your eyes peeled and noses sharp because the food smells absolutely delicious! The menu changes everyday as well so if you're the type to try new things, this is the place. I got the Brown Stew Oxtail, Jerk Shrimp, Vegan Chopped Cheese, and the Chicken. The braidings and blistering on these empanadas are all different which shows me a lot of attention to detail and dedication in his craft. My favorite was the Oxtail and Jerk Shrimp. The crunchiness of the empanadas with the filling was a great combination. I didn't enjoy the vegan chopped cheese as much as I hoped but that could be because I don't really enjoy vegan food that way. It was a different and unique taste however. The chicken is always a classic and he did it very well. I'm excited to come back and try the other empanadas Ray has! Stop by if you are looking for a delicious snack or a meal!

The service and food, on the other hand, were quite a mixed bag. We ordered a margherita pizza, pancake tacos, steak and eggs, and French toast with a side of sausage--the pizza, at least, was good. However, the "French toast" was more like an anemic panini press trying to pass as French toast. The steak and eggs comprised of a fairly well-cooked (that is, it was the right temperature) yet underseasoned steak of a relatively dubious cut, underseasoned home fries, and eggs done wrong (sunny side instead of over easy). The lattermost was the start of the problem, as I was willing to give it a shot, but found the texture off-putting. In light of this, I brought the problem to our server Adalia, who brought it to her manager Elvia. Thankfully I had someone else with me to tell me what happened: Elvia came over without addressing me on their error, silently took a look at my plate and instructed Adalia to have the kitchen put the eggs back on the fire. She takes my plate to extract the eggs, and brings them back (unsurprisingly) completely overdone, first in Elvia's hands, then in Adalia's for her to serve; we send for a refire, and they come back correct 7 minutes or so after I've already finished eating. Considering the hassle it took to get them, I couldn't trust it enough to eat, leading them to waste as well. After all was said and done, the GM Amer comes over to see how things were, and was thankfully helpful and understanding of our situation. Here's the rub: I was initially willing to overlook the steak, the home fries, and even the eggs if the error was properly ameliorated. Adalia and Amer both did very well, and I'm grateful for them for that; Elvia, on the other hand, managed to break the chain of competent customer service by directing the server to handle the problem in a way that was set up for failure (if you mess up an egg, it's an immediate refire because of how the egg cooks in the first place -- Amer also arrested to that policy) all without addressing us and taking accountability, due to negligence or whatever else. Not only that, but when sending the incorrect eggs over the second time, she couldn't even bring it to us herself--it would have been easy, seeing as she was the one that originally had them--and left Adalia and her tip to potentially take the fire if the patrons happen to be angry. Mistakes are fine--everyone makes them--but I'd describe this as cowardly more than anything else, and I take issue with that in particular from a leadership standpoint. While Amer graciously extended an invitation for a better experience next time, I can't say I'll be taking him up on the offer when their service and food are this misaligned; unfortunately, a disappointment overall.
