First timers to Junipers. We were looking for a nice place to stop for lunch while traveling. Went to yelp and found Junipers. Nice atmosphere, a bit upscale. Friendly staff. We were informed all of their food is fresh - nothing frozen. We both ordered burgers which included hand cut fries and both were amazing! Came here with friends on a weeknight for dinner... we didn't have reservations, but that seemed OK, as we ad no wait, but they were pretty packed. (So, make reservations) Upon walking in and seeing bottles of Penfolds, I assumed this would be a great "Foodie" joint, but was ultimately disappointed in feeling that way, they definitely didn't live up to that notion in any way. The menu is interesting... a mix of wood smoked/grilled items with basic stuff. Nothing really creative or interesting tho. I opted for their half chicken, which is done on a spit in the wood fire... turns out, it's just a basic, flavorless rotisserie chicken, with no smokey flavor and very little, if any spices to it. Their au jus was decent for the mashed potatoes tho. Other items I saw coming out looked very basic and plating is definitely not their strong suit. Service was ok, nothing special there as well. Classy restaurant ~ 5 stars for the service! I was with a group of 5 and we couldn't decide where to have dinner last minute. We should've made a reservation sooner, but we called ahead (~15 mins) and they were really nice and accommodating. When we arrived, our table was ready and we didn't have to wait. The special of the night (a seafood dish with gumbo) enticed half of our group, while the rest of us ordered the wood grilled salmon or chipotle skirt steak. Not a good visit. Stopped in on a Sunday night around 8:30 (they close at 10). My son ordered the salmon; I chose the brisket and a salad. My son's food was okay to him, no issues. I didn't get my salad (although the server remembered it well after my entree was on the table...I declined it at that point). The brisket was dry, tough and leathery. The bbq sauce was slathered over it, but tasted like a poor generic...well, not good. I might have taken three bites of the meat and was done. The mashed potatoes were at least tolerable. I declined an offer of another plate, but it was brought anyway. I clearly did not want it, nor did I want it packaged to take home. Poor food is not improved with reheating at home. First visit here and, upon entering, my husband and I were excited to experience this restaurant. The interior was inviting and the aroma gave us hope. Even the menu offerings had our appetite going in several directions and we elicited help from our server who was very likeable in his role. We then received our meals very quickly. That is when our good experience ended. I ordered brisket and baby back ribs with asparagus, while my husband ordered the baby back ribs with macaroni and cheese. Both of us agreed. The ribs seemed overcooked and did not fall off the bone. The brisket was not nearly tender enough. The flavors clearly did not match either the smells permeating the venue or the expectations given their claims of everything being smoked in-house. And the Mac n cheese? It looked like and my husband said it tasted like Velveeta cheese. The asparagus? Slightly tough and woody. How oh how could this place have a 4 star Yelp rating and be packed with diners tonight?? This used to be our favorite restaurant in Murrysville. Not anymore. Our dinner a couple days ago was very underwhelming. Brisket and ribs had some kind of heavy gravy that did not taste good. Fish tacos had tiny piece of fish buried in the taco shell. They used to serve cornbread muffins with dinner. Didn't do that. Croutons in the salad were rock hard and inedible. I really enjoy everything about juniper. The menu is fresh and different then you will find at a lot of other places. There is a nice variety in size and price of food items and there is a wide variety of drink options. (Although drinks tend to be pricy). I've been to Juniper on several occasions. I've been there with large groups, with one other person and just sitting at the bar. Every time the service is what really stood out. Servers were friendly without being pushy and were extremely knowledgeable. One of my favorite items is the ahi tuna salad. Lots of flavor packed in. Something else to note is they are celiac friendly. I have a friend that can't have gluten at all and this is one of the few places in the area that can safely accommodate her. read more

One of my favorite places in Murrysville food is great. The bar atmosphere is great to staff is the great both day and night time.

Stopped in for lunch hour. They have an extensive menu with all kinds of great food. Something for everyone. I had the Ahi Tuna salad filled with fresh mangos and avacado.. The dressing was SoO Good!! Their salsa & bean dip for the Tortilla chips were also on point, overall great flavors. The staff was very friendly. They have an open kitchen if you like to watch that action. It was obvious the staff knew eachother well & got along great. Over all great energy to the restaurant. Next time I'm in the area, I will absolutely come here again. My wife likes this place so we took her niece there for her birthday. My wife mostly like the specialty drinks Juniper has. And though she and her niece liked their meals, I was not pleased with mine. I had the brisket and ribs combo. The meat was dry and chewy on both. Hence the removal of one star for this review. The good parts were the appetizers. We had seared ahi tuna and the corn bread. Both were very good. I highly recommend the corn bread. Our server, Anissa, was very attentive and cheerful. I'm glad she served us. We will likely return to Juniper because it's a favorite for my wife. Thus four stars instead of three. I would not return if it was up to me. read more

My first time here and I can't wait to go back! I had a taste of the chicken enchiladas and they were pretty good, but I throughly enjoyed my seared Ahi Tuna salad. It was absolutely amazing. The tuna tasted so fresh and tender and had a great dressing on top of it. It was something with wasabi, but it was not unbearably spicy. The wasabi taste was just an undertone and it was probably the best thing I've ever had with wasabi. The rest of the salad was dressed with something else. The whole thing was served beautifully with a pair of chopsticks which of course I used. Everything was totally worth the prices that we paid and the staff was very friendly. I love the atmosphere and the classy décor. It was a packed house tonight and there were several large groups filling up the dining space. We were fortunate to be seated in an area away from the hustle and bustle of the room but the noise still carried back toward us. They did a nice job with maximizing the amount of diners they are able to accommodate but it is a bit challenging maneuvering through the dining room without invading others privacy and dining space. Their menu features a nice array of dishes. Most of their specialties are grilled beef, poultry and fish. The portions are usual in size but a little pricey as far as receiving anything extra on the side. For instance, the salmon was cooked to perfection but it had a few stalks of asparagus on the side for 19.00 and both appeared lost on the huge dinner plate. They have an extensive wine and specialty drink menu worth noting. They meet expectations. Good place to find something for everyone. I don't think you will find the best off or your new favorite. For example, a better burger IMO is five guys next door. Better BBQ, drive to Clems further on down 22 or even smoky bones or mission. Salad Panera. Mexican any Mexican place. There is something to be said about the atmosphere and drink selection. We've eaten at Juniper many times, but tonight was the worst experience we have had. First off, the food was very good. We had the ribs, salmon, and burger and all were good. But the service was the worst I've had anywhere in years. My son's chicken fingers came out 25 minutes after the rest of the meals. When the server finally brought them out, there was no apology or even acknowledgement that it took so long. It was not busy when we got there, but we were never once offered refills in the 1.5 hours we were there. No one ever checked how our meals were. Had dinner there on Friday and everything about it was excellent. We arrived about 5:30 or 6pm without a reservation and the quickly seated us at a high top which was fine.
