#33 in my NEW ENGLAND & NY COFFEE SHOP SERIES Such an eclectic place, I love!! This is a huge store with a bunch of different rooms/spaces to sit in, including an outdoor patio which was very cute. I did not study here, but it would be a great spot. Lots of seating and outlets. They have monthly seasonal drinks which they post on their Instagram. I decided to get the seasonal purple cow cold brew and it was good. I personally don't love cold brew, but it tasted good, just very light. They also have a bunch of other coffee shop drinks along with food and smoothies. I would definitely come back here if I was in the area! There is also a large parking lot. read more

Best matcha in town!! The quality and taste of the matcha here is superb. This little cafe serves various pastries as well as your standard coffee and other tea drinks. They also have seasonal lemonades. I also tried their strawberry basil lemonade. The strawberry basil lemonade despite its name did not have any basil in it but instead had a little bit of mint. This might have been an oversight of the worker but I didn't mind. The staff here are very friendly and quick with making your drinks. The cafe is clean and well decorated. There is both indoor and outdoor seating here. The cafe is located in a little plaza with a parking lot but it can get full pretty quickly! The cafe is very popular and opens pretty early. read more

Incredible ORGANIC and local coffee! It's so hard to find a coffee shop that uses all organic beans! The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, the layout is fun and funky and the overall vibe is awesome! The baked goods are all so delicious and it's hard to pick just one. I only wish there was a similar spot in the mystic ct area and I didn't have to travel so far for a coffee.... although that could get dangerously expensive! Absolutely horrible. Ordered food online. Drove all the way there , waited only to be told they ran out of bananas and my order can't be made. IT IS SO FREAKING CUTE IN HERE! There was ample, size inclusive seating. I loved that the seating areas were broken up, gives some privacy. I also LOVED the seating outside, it must be so nice in the summer and fall...when it isn't raining. The Cheech and chai was so good! It has matcha and raspberry added to it, EXQUISITE! Worth the line!! This place gives you central perk vibes. Many sitting areas for you to grab your coffee and sit and relax with friends or a nice time to read a book or the daily paper. Nice outdoor seating. Plenty of coffee drinks to choose from plus some healthy alternatives including protein shakes. Don't be discouraged by the length of the line when you enter. Plenty of staff working the counter and preparing your order. Goes by very quickly. As you get to the head of the line you pass the display of baked good and fresh bagels. The shop is quirkily decorated with a cozy and inviting color palette of warm oranges and browns - it's actually the best spot to spend a fall morning or afternoon. Snag a seat on one of the couches or squishy chairs by the electric fireplace - you'll be glad you did! The menu features a dizzying array of coffees, shakes, tea drinks, and even a refreshing Cactus Cooler, made with fresh lime and prickly pear juice (sounds weird, but SO GOOD). If you're trying to have fun with your choice, I would highly recommend the Smokey Bear Latte, made with house-smoked maple syrup, but they also do a sensible rendition of a classic cappuccino and latte as well for the purists. Not enough superlatives. The name of the place is so apropos. From the outside you are welcomed in by 2 pair of bright orange Adirondack chairs (my husband has a thing for Adirondack chairs!). Upon entering you are hit with a cacophony of sounds and sights and the beautiful aroma of Java. Though there was a long line that was no shortage of things to see and fill your mind up with while waiting. Both the people in line and the employees remained unruffled, I dare say this might likely be the friendliest town ever. Anyway, the coffee also is outstanding!! The extensive and expanded choice of java drinks and smoothies makes it easy to find a favorite. They've even added a Dr. Fau-Chai to the seasonal menu adding white chocolate and banana to a vanilla chai! Due to pandemic era suppliers, the gelato choices are down to one: vanilla. In lieu of my favorite flavorful affogato, I dove into a Wildflower Latte, lavender and honey in a classic latte, prepared beautifully. This place is our go-to whenever near the area. Very cute coffee shop! My friend took me here to grab breakfast and coffee. The parking lot was so full so park on the side street if you can't find parking in the plaza. I got the cardamom drink with oat milk and a toasted everything bagel with cream cheese. The cardamom latte was incredible! It was loaded with cardamom and it was strong! It was also caffeine free. The everything bagel was delicious, chewy and toasted perfectly. I loved the ambience of the cafe. It is very small but unique. You can get hot drinks (ie: teas, lattes, seasonal hot drinks) or cold drinks (ie: smoothies, protein shakes, iced coffee, iced teas, juices etc) and they are all served seasonally. The bakery also has a lot of tasty breakfast pastries and they serve breakfast sandwiches. The caffe is a little cramped but once you get a seat you'll be fine. Man do I wish we had such a great coffee shop where I live! We stopped here with a friend before a road trip back to the Midwest and were not disappointed. Even though the line on a Saturday was gruesomely long the wait was actually pretty short. Talk about efficiency! The drink variations are top notch. While I just had a plain oatmilk latte it still tasted divine. My daughter had some sort of churro frappe that had ice cream inside. Oh man it looked sooo good. If you're a local you probably know how awful service is here. I've stood at the counter waiting for someone to even say hello to me after 5-10 minutes in there with no one else in the shop. They have prioritized online orders over face to face customers multiple times. I have colleagues that have vented the same frustration over the last 2 years. The rudeness and expressions you get from the employees and owner is just not welcoming. And definitely don't wear other attire here that represents another coffee business or you will get side eyed right back out the door. read more

Junk & Java is one of my favorite spots for coffee and small breakfast bites. The cafe itself is pretty neat with eclectic furniture, friendly staff, and good music. For COVID safety they have online ordering available, heated huts outside on their patio if you choose to dine in, and social distancing markers around the coffee shop for waiting in line and drinking a coffee indoors. I've had their various espresso drinks (from americanos to specialty lattes like their Oreo latte) as well as their coffee, protein shakes, and health drinks and have enjoyed everything! They also have pretty good bagels with fun and exciting flavors like jalapeño cheddar or Buffalo bagels and fun cream cheese flavors like bacon horseradish (super delicious), veggie, and cinnamon sugar. I have yet to try their muffins, pastries, desserts, and milk shakes, but my friends rave about them all the time. I always look forward to going to Junk n Java and trying more of their menu and I recommend this place to anyone in the area! read more

I loved going to Junk & Java! The inside experience was a perfect calm, cozy and hipster feel! It was very clean while also having a lot of fun seating options and tables! The staff was very attentive and I ordered one drink through the mobile order service on the website and then ordered the protein ball in store! I experienced both ways of ordering and I was pleased with both! Junk and Java seems to have a great system going and I will definitely be going back and I recommend this coffee shop 100 times!
